2011/12 Game 25 Stony Brook vs. Vermont

Disappointing loss. Hopefully Albany is ****ed enough with its
season so far that it's motivated to beat the conference leader
when Vermont visits Albany for its next game. Then SBU will be
       back in the driver's seat.
There's a decent chance the Wolves will meet the Cats again,
probably in Vermont. They'd better figure out how to defend
against their three-point shooting, or hope the Cats have an off
day if they hope to win there.

       Some random thoughts:
       - I've never been on the Dougher bandwagon because of his very
inconsistent shooting. Nothing about his play today makes me
       want to jump on.
       - Brenton's lack of ability to take and/or make shots from 18-20
feet has become a liability. Whoever is defending him can back
off when he's at that range. A guard/small forward needs to be
       able to shoot from there.
       - Pikiell may want to adopt the Vermont coach's free throw
shooting regimen that the CBS Sports announcers were talking
       during the game.
       - As for the two good things— Joyner's first half inside game
was impressive, and Coley's BIG TIME jam over a big man.

The team loses one game in a difficult environment and now we
       talk about all these problems.
Tommy Brenton has always been reluctant to shoot from the
perimeter ( even when we win 12 of the first 13 league games ).
Brian has always been somewhat streaky. That has not stopped us
from being near the top of the standings.
Yes, UVM shot well from the floor. That is not lkely to be a
pattern against us. Today they were better.
This was going to be a diificult spot for us right from the
start. We should all have known that.
We may need to go back to Burlington again but I doubt we will
perform that poorly in a rematch.

They just did not play well. Only can blame themselves for the
loss. Vermont was hot for sure , but our missed shots, no ball
movement and turnovers helped Vermont . Have to hope for an
Albany upset and we need to win out the schedule.

Winning 12 of 13 league games and being near the top of the
standings isn't qualifying for the NCAA Tournament. And there's
the real possibility of missing out...yet again. I hope Albany
can beat them, or we can beat them in Burlington, but there is a
problem in Stony Brookville if/when the Seawolves have to wait
yet another season to qualify. The issues with Dougher and
Brenton are parts of that problem. It is what it is, until
       something changes

Tough loss. ouch! with that said. We are still in first place.
With an improved team over last year, I like our chances. Lets
not get crazy here. We are either the #1 or #2 seed coming into
the tournament and we all know very well what happens most of
the time to that team that gets the #1 seed. The pressure is on
them. Lets just sit back and relax and enjoy the fact that we
are 12-2 right now in the America East. Nothing to panic about.
The team needs to regroup and win its follow up games. We have a
week off, that is great for them to practice and work out on
       things they need to improve.
       Go Seawolves

All I am saying is the sky is not falling. It would once again
be difficult for SBU to need to go to Burlington to win the
conference title, but I think we all
should agree that is not beyond somrthing that can be
       accomplished.
       Keep in mind,we are 12-2 , not 2-12

Rapier's 5 turnovers weren't good. Coley had a bunch of
unnecessary fouls that got him into trouble. Dougher and
Jackson combined for 4 of 24 from the field.
Simply put, you can't shoot 0-15 from 3pt, 57% from FT and
       expect to win.
As Doug Remer said... "well, it was a team effort, and I guess
it took every player workin' together to lose this one."
We all gotta hope that Albany (or, more comically, UMBC or
Bing...) knock off Vermont. The #2 seed isn't hideous, keep in
mind that last year, the #2 seed didn't play Vermont in the
       finals...

Dougher....how about the multitude of huge shots over the last
       couple of weeks?
Brenton....how about the other invaluable contributions?
Pikiell...I was laughing when the announcers went on and on
about their free throw practice routine, clearly John Becker at
UVM is the only coach in the country who does that.
       Coley...nice dunk, who cares?
SB has had a phenomenal run, no surprise they couldn't run the
table in a very tough environment. We will regroup and the SB
       faithful will have their backs.

Nothing to be worried about guys, our team will regroup, it was
just one bad game AT burlington. I really hope we can get the
championship game at home if we make it that far (either by
means of getting the top seed or by the top seed losing early in
the tourney) but even if that's not possible I think Stony Brook
can still do a great job in the tourney. The next two weeks will
       tell.
