Downtime Business

One day, Mara approaches Hexor. After greeting him, she smiles
and says 'I was wondering if you would be willing to work with
me on something. The world is... bigger than I realized. There's
much more out there than I saw at home or during my time in the
military. I thought it was enough to be strong of body, but
after all the things we've faced, that no longer feels like
enough. I'd like you to teach me to be more, for the good of the
group.'

Hexor will look up from his task with a curious expression on
his face.
"More? You'll want to be a bit more specific, as there are a
great many things I could teach you."

Mara hesitates and replies 'I admit I'm not entirely sure how
the things you do work. You seem to manage all sorts of things
using your mind. I want to use mine to protect our friends. Is
such a thing possible for me?'

"Is it possible? We'll have to see," he says moving to sit on
the ground, cross legged. "Sit with me, let us test your mind
and see what there is the see." He rest his arms on his knees,
palms facing upward.
"Sit with me, rest your hands on mine, and try to relax."

Mara sits in front of Hexor and tries to mimic his pose, placing
her hands in his. She shifts uncomfortably for a moment, unused
to the position, but she takes a few deep breaths and slowly
empties her mind of distraction.

Hexor barely touches your hands, just his fingertips resting on
them, but you feel a spark run down your arm from the contact.
"Interesting," he mumbles distractedly. "You have some untapped
potential." After a few more moments, he breaks the contact and
opens his eyes.
"I think there is much I can do for you, but we must first open
your mind. To do this . . .," he says quickly, moving with
liquid grace into a standing position. "You are too old to have
this done in the same manner as mine was, your mind is too set,
but there are other ways. They will not be comfortable, and they
will not be easy. You will need to commit yourself to this goal
with everything you have," he finishes, eyes beginning to blaze
blue.
His swords appear in his hands in a blink and he stands ready
before you, swords low. "Come girl, show me your limits."

Mara nods and gets to her feet. 'I'll do whatever it takes.' As
she speaks, she draws her sword and attacks without holding
back, trusting Hexor to defend himself. She smiles as she does,
excited by the prospect of something new.

Hexor leads Mara on a merry dance, fighting around and around
the area, forcing you to move and move and move. Soon your body
is heavy, tired. After one long series of swings, Hexor's eyes
flare blue and your mind is assaulted with images of pain and
loss. Your town razed, your lover dead, your friends dead.
Everything, everything your fault, because you weren't strong
enough.
The assault continues for a long long series of moments.
Eventually you feel a rise of anger more and more, filling your
mind but with nowhere to go. Suddenly there is a breaking of
something, some barrier in your mind. Your eyes flare a pale
blue and words burn into your mind.
Valor.
Discernment.
Resolve.
Character.
Each begging for release, begging to be said.

Mara grits her teeth and strikes back again with a newfound
energy. With each swing of her sword, she speaks. "Valor."
Strike. "Discernment." Strike. "Resolve." Strike. "Character."
Strike.

With each strike there is an aura, growing stronger, about her
body. Like a second set of armor, a deep blue, almost black, and
pulsing slowly.
Hexor takes two quick steps back, smiling. "There!" he calls,
breaking the spell and revealing your new found powers. After a
pair of moments, the armor fades, disappearing into your armor.
"Remember this feeling, the freedom, the surge of power," he
raises his blades again, dropping his smile and steps toward
you.
"Now, again!"
