Sunday Game - Kingmaker Idea by Adam
By: PoorEverett Date: December 7, 2016, 12:57 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       People of the Sunday Game,
I have a desire to run a Kingmaker style game in the foreseeable
future. To be clear, what I mean when I say Kingmaker is a game
that will primarily focus on the party building a home of their
own designs from the ground up. Whether that home be a literal
kingdom or just carving out a little territory to call their own
will depend largely on the system and player desire. Because the
themes of this game can fit just about anywhere, I am very
flexible with what system we will use to orchestrate the game.
Below is a list of systems and ideas, each with a few thoughts
as to how I would run that particular game. If you folks of the
Sunday game are interested in such a game please post a reply
stating which system(s)/idea(s) you would be most interested in.
Lastly, if you have an idea please share it, I take all
       reasonable requests into consideration.
5th Edition DnD - This would be a fairly straight forward
recover a lost keep or fortress and slowly rebuild it. You will
still primarily be adventurers, you will just be adventuring to
gather resources, allies, etc. for the cause. All characters
will have to have some kind of tie in to the location you will
be rebuilding. In other words, ALL characters need to be
invested, more or less, in the primary goal of the campaign,
rebuilding a keep/fortress and holding on to it. For ease, I
would likely run this in the Pathfinder universe as I know it,
and it is easy for others to access information on it.
Mixed WoD Modern Nights - This will take a little explaining.
The idea here is the party will start as a rag-tag team of
varying denizens of the WoD universe. Basically, each player
will have to decide what WoD species he belongs to and I will
want a nice variety so no more than 2 of any particular WoD
critter, except for Demon of which I will only allow 1 for
easing the burden of my own bookkeeping. For example, the party
could be composed of 2 Vampires, a Werewolves, 2 Changelings, a
Promethean, 2 Mages, and a Sineater.
Obviously you guys will have to carefully work out who gets to
play what and also how each of you are affiliated with one
another. From there, the game will be based in the greater
Seattle area and you guys will be attempting to claim and grow
your own turf. Unless someone can come with a good reason for
why a Hunter would work with all these monsters the only thing I
am going to disallow is Hunter and Mummy, the later of which for
specific mechanic reasons that I will not bother you with at
this time. This means I will be allowing things like Immortals,
Psychics and Possessed, but please talk to me before going this
route as it can leave your character severely under-powered
compared to the "primary" monsters of WoD.
Iron Kingdoms RPG - Mostly the same as the 5th Edition DnD bit,
but in the Iron Kingdoms universe. This game would likely
feature more political maneuvering as you guys try to balance
       your standing with neighboring factions.
Wizards of Warhammer - The party would be magic users, all of
you. Priests, Witches and what not would be fine too, just gotta
have a Magic Stat. Fleeing the rigid Empire, the party finds
itself in the Borderlands with a small plot of land to call
their own. Again, similar to what I said for 5th Edition only in
       the warhammer universe.
DAH BOYZ!! - No this is not a joke. I am willing to run a
Warhammer Ork game in either 40k or Fantasy (although the 40k
one would be work, but I'm down). You guys will be the
collective Bosses of the clan, but one of you will be Da Boss,
subject to change based on Orky logics. The game will center
around you guys trying build up your forces and get lootz.
Obviously this will be a much more... light hearted game, but
that does not mean it will not require some rite cunnin' bosses.
I understand PvP will be a semi-frequent thing as different
players via for who is in charge for a given situation, I will
only ask that we keep it 1) brief and 2) non-lethal. Zog a rutty
git in hiz gob to put 'em in hiz place, then be done with it.
If the game is approved, I will not be starting it at level 1/0
experience. I want you guys to have a little wiggle room with
your backstories so I will be starting the game around 5th level
in DnD terms, or something similar in whatever system we decide
on. There is no rush at this time, as I have yet to even put pen
to paper, so think on it some then reply at your leisure.

       A wizarding we shall go!
With a decision made and a system chosen, I thought I would lay
out a few basics for character creation that way people that
want to start building now can do so.
Roll 2 sets of stats, take whichever you prefer plus you may
take 1 stat of your choice at maximum plus 1 stat at racial base
+ 10. This is replaces the normal Shallya's Mercy option. I want
your characters to be competent at something.
For careers. You will start having completed your first career
and are well into your second. So, you will have a basic career
of your choice completed (all main profile and secondary profile
advances, plus all skills and talents unless it says "or"
between 2 skills or talents and then you just get one or the
other, but I am going to allow you to buy these at any time
later on). Plus you will be 1000 experience into a second career
of your choice. This will mean you have all the trappings of a
starting character plus those of your second career, in addition
you will have 100 crowns to spend as you please. However, your
character must have a Magic Characteristic of at least 1.
However, you have several options for meeting this strict
requirement. Obviously you can go the normal Wizard route, but
you can also go Priest/War Priest, Witch, or even a Runesmith
(see Realms of Sorcery). I want people to be able to play
something they want to play, so be flexible with the possibility
of someone maybe investing in a Dark Art, Necromancy and Blood
Magic (see attachment) are definitely on the table, but I will
need some convincing to allow the schools of the Chaos Gods.
Also, I am willing to adjust the encounters some to accommodate
whatever the party composition ends up being, so do not panic if
no one has healing spells. That said, there will be a fair
amount of combat, traps/puzzles and non-combat encounters so do
not show up with 9 court wizards and expect to do well for long.
       Fair warning has been issued.
Any particularly zealous players completing characters early can
post their ideas here and I will see them. Or, you can email me
for a more private conversation at pooreverett@gmail.com
       HOUSE RULES!!
Components for spellcasting - As long as you possess a component
for a spell, you add it's ingredient bonus to ALL castings of
the spell. In other words, using an ingredient during a casting
does not destroy them item. No change to Bloodmagic as of yet.
Runesmithing - Temporary Runes will take 1 minute to inscribe,
empower, and bind (3 minutes total). Inscription is an extended
       test.

For the record, I find this to be an interesting and intriguing
career choice. I have gotten a look at the Grail Knight career
path and have not found any careers along that road that acquire
a Magic Characteristic. Obviously Apprentice Wizard has you
covered for the MC requirement, but I'm curious as to what your
intentions are with this career path, more so roleplaying wise
than mechanically. I am familiar with the "battle wizard"
       concept.
Let me know how you plan to develop this character's motives and
agenda as he, at least in part, takes control of a region of the
Borderlands, or at the very least, give it some serious
       cogitating.

So I ended up reversing the order, I am now Knight Errant gone
       Wizard.
A few questions I have though is what starting wealth (if any
beyond the book) we get, as well can we use the optional rules
       for best craftsmanship weapons?
I am currently writing up a backstory for Sir Jacen Durant,
where would you like that submitted?
