Attracting more teams to the Event

Purpose: An open discussion between Oman Sail and the current
teams to identify ways to increase participation in the event.
MF: Clear packages and information available to potential teams
via the website and the social media channels. This way a team
can log in online and see necessary budget breakdowns,
expectations, media valuation reports, and other competitor
information. This style is very similar to the Tour De France a
       la Voile.
MF:Reducing the entry fee and charter fee. As we are an
established team it is no problem for us to pay the costs,
however as a new team we struggled with the budget and it was
very hard to finance the event when the entry fee and charter
       fee is already over £11,000.
       - Reducing Entry Fee and charter fee and no Prize Money
       - Removing charter Fee and all entry fee becomes Prize Money for
       top 3 boats
MF: Marcel has been established as a European ambassador. He is
available to travel to different events with or without SATT
       management to promote the event
MF: Provide promotional equipment, in 2012 Issa provided Marcel
Herrera with 5 brochures of the Sailing Arabia The Tour, these
were all passed on to potential sponsors and other teams. If
Oman Sail provided teams with 100 brochures, information packs,
flags, stickers, etc. then these can be distributed across
Europe, (USA when Messe Frankfurt compete at the north american
championships) and the UK at various training events.

       Hi Marcel,
Thank you for the invitation to join this forum. For others
involved, my name is Sam Holliday and I run SHG Consulting - a
sports marketing company specialising in offshore and grand prix
yacht racing. As a company we represent the Plymouth Sailing
       (Messe Frankfurt).
I would very much like to echo Marcel's sentiments. I believe
strongly that Oman Sail and the SATT should have a European
representative or provide the facility for current European
teams to sell the event. With around 20 boats expected at the
2014 Farr30 world championships I believe it could be very
beneficial to have somebody there talking about the SATT and
perhaps presenting it at an evening function. The same goes for
the 2014 North Americans. Perhaps a stronger connection with the
Farr30 class association as a whole is a good idea?
I also agree that presentations to targeted yacht clubs could
       prove interesting.
Increased participation will also come from increased visibility
within Europe. During this years tour it was difficult to obtain
any information from the website, social media and via European
press during racing. I am not sure why this was as the
information coming out was fantastic during 2013 - admittedly
there was a larger european contingent.
       With regards to funding:
Marcel I like your second point: Removing charter Fee and all
entry fee becomes Prize Money for top 3 boats. However I can
imagine it would be very difficult for OS to remove the charter
fee completely. I do see a way around it - perhaps the charter
fee is fixed at £5,000 with a reduction in entry fees for crews
that have remained loyal to the tour. I would hate to see a
charter fee removed and it have a possible detrimental effect
       upon boat maintenance.
