They were, in order of birth, Callum Brown, 19, Ryan Brown, 18
and Josh Brown, 17. Three brothers, born with the privilege of
an upper-class life. They were the heartthrobs of East Lake
High. Not one girl in the school hasn't been infatuated or in
love with one of the Brown boys. Including me. As well as being
heartthrobs, they were also notorious heartbreakers. Not that
they were players, no. Callum, Josh and Ryan were better than
that. They were smart, responsible and handsome. They were
heartbreaks because you couldn't have them. It was an unspoken
rule among the girls. A policy that everyone knew, but never
spoke of. The Browns belong to everybody, not just one.
To the girls here at East Lake High, to date a Brown is roughly
equivalent to breaking the law. They were that loved. Everyone
wanted a least one of the three brothers, but to keep the peace,
that pic illy was made. You can't ask a Brown boy out. But if a
Brown boy ask you out.....that's a different story. Although I
can pretty much guarantee that it's a rare occasion for one of
them to ask a girl out. To the boys, asking a girl out means
that they see potential for a serious relationship. There's no
such thing as casual dating with the brothers. The Brown family
had a very traditional ways of viewing a relationship. Dinner
dates, flowers, meeting the parents, that was the routine for
       them.
The boys would never introduce anyone to their parents unless
they were serious. They don't take such matters lightly. As
impossible as it may sound, the Brown brothers were my childhood
friends. I grew up with them. But what sounds even more
impossible, was what happened two years ago, the summer before
my junior year. After one eventful and unforgettable evening,
Ryan Brown asked me to be his girlfriend. There's not one girl
at East Lake who hasn't heard of it. They couldn't hold it
against me, though. After all, Ryan never became mine. How could
he be, when I turned him down?

My parents knew the boys were back. When I got home, the house
was spotless. Our best dining set was laid on the table and my
mom was away cooking dinner in the kitchen. "Oh, Kayla, you'll
never guess who's back!" Mom exclaimed, a huge grin on her face.
She dabbed her forehead with a napkin and pulled her red oven
mitts on. "I don't know, why don't you tell me." I muttered.
"Josh, Ryan and Callum arrived from boarding school this
morning!" The same Summer Ryan asked me to be his girlfriend,
Mr. and Mrs. Brown were dealing with family problems. There was
some conflict between Mr. Brown and his brother, and they had
decided to send the boys to boarding school so they wouldn't get
involved. They've been gone for two years, but the problems must
have settled already because they were asked to return. This
time, I was pretty sure they were here to stay.
