FACE CLAIM:
My Hero Academia - Izuku Midoriya
CHARACTER HISTORY:
Shouta Akimoto was born an only child to parents Ino Akimoto and
Hiro Akimoto. Ino was a stay at home mother that took care of
things while her husband worked. He worked as a manga artist
collaborating with a lot of manga writers that have successful
works published. Shouta was someone that was always into comics
and manga and it became a hobby of his to start collecting them.
However, he liked reading comics more than manga and admired the
ones that had superheroes in them. He greatly admired them and
adored the stories that surrounded them. Shouta would read a
mixture of Japanese comics that weren't manga-based and American
comics.
His love for superheroes grew the more he read American comics,
collecting titles from the franchises of Marvel and DC from
their golden and silver ages. He also saw that the abilities the
characters had from the heroes to the villains were pretty cool
too. While the idea of individuals with powers existing sounded
cool, Shouta knew that would never be possible. So, most of his
time as a child was spent pretending to be the heroes that he
would read about in comics, his mother often entertaining him by
joining in because it made her happy to see her son happy. As he
grew, so did his interests to where he not only had comic book
issues of his favorite issues but figurines and other
memorabilia.
By the time he was school age, he was always excited to share
his love of these things with his classmates. None of them were
remotely interested in his hobby or rather, they were in the
phase of "been there and done that" so overall, they saw no
reason to care about these things. That being said, he grew up
being rather alone as a kid and bullied by others because of his
interests anytime he attempted to share what he liked with
others. He maybe had only one person he could sort of call a
friend that enjoyed the comics and things that he had but their
"friendship" was cut short due to them thinking that they were
too cool to hang out with a nerd like Shouta.
Despite wanting to make friends, he stayed to himself to avoid
being a bother to others. He kept his love of comics,
superheroes and the movies that came out surrounding them but
became wary of sharing them with others. This even inspired him
to want to become a comic book writer. He tried drawing but
wasn't very good at it like his father was so instead he stuck
to writing alternate story endings to the comics he read.
Thinking of new ways for how the outcomes in them could've been
done if handled differently. His parents were glad that despite
how many have treated him because of his hobbies, he had an idea
of what he wanted to do as long as it made him happy.
To do that, he had to work hard to get into a good enough school
that would help him to be able to do that so he strove hard to
get into Tsukuba Academy. It was a prestigious school that had a
rather difficult entrance exam. Many do end up passing it but
not all of them end up staying before the end of the first
semester, falling under all the pressure. Shouta's goal was to
get into this school and so he studied his hardest to do just
that. His mother was a little worried about the idea of him
going to Tsukuba because of the rumors that surrounded it.
Strange things happening, students going missing with no
explanation. Shouta didn't believe any of that to be true since
the school had a success rate of making sure their graduating
students went to top universities.
Ino was just worried about her son's safety. Shouta assured her
that he would be fine. He was worried that he wouldn't pass the
exam to get in but upon receiving his acceptance letter to the
school, he was all but thrilled that he had. He was going to
make sure not to slack off and keep his grades up no matter
what. That was his promise to his mom. Everyone was different at
Tsukuba Academy. While no one isolated themselves from him
because of his hobbies, like a lot of prestigious schools, he
did see that many students were under a lot of pressure, most of
that coming from their parents. However, he chose to stay to
himself until he got to feel out the place more. It was a pretty
large school with access to a lot of materials and areas. It was
exciting for him.
For the first few months before he realized that those rumors of
strange things happening on campus turned out to be true. Shouta
had been an accidental target by an unknown group of students
that were fighting with other students that attended the school.
They were fighting using powers and everything! He couldn't
believe what he'd seen! Because he'd seen what he did, the ones
on the opposing side that were clearly the "bad guys" in that
scenario tried to attack him onto to have a member from the
student council protect him and tell him to leave the area and
get back to his dorm room. Shouta honestly didn't know what to
do or how to respond to any of what was happening. He simply ran
to his dorm in fear of what he'd seen.
He couldn't tell anybody what he'd seen for he didn't know if
anyone would believe him. To discover that there were those with
powers that truly existed was incredible but it did pique his
curiosity in wondering just why they were fighting and if the
ones that tried to attack him were responsible for previous
students that were stated to have disappeared. So, he decided on
his own in his spare time, he would do more research about the
school to uncover anything about it that no one knew about. And
also document it in his notebooks. The situations, individuals
involved, everything. He may not have had any powers that would
allow him to help but he would help from a distance. All while
making sure to keep his grades up so that he could remain
unnoticed to avoid being a target again.
