Keita Shibata
By: Keita Shibata Date: August 31, 2017, 11:42 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
NAME:
Keita Nguyen-Shibata
DATE OF BIRTH:
August 28th
AGE:
17
GENDER:
Male
SEXUAL ORIENTATION:
Demisexual
OCCUPATION:
Student - Tsukuba Academy
HOBBIES:
- Dueling
- Archery
- Playing Piano
- Horseback Riding
- Listening to soft jazz music
POWERS/ABILITIES:
Archery - Keita is quite skilled in the way of archery, learning
under the teachings of the Doumeki family along with other
students at their temple. While Keita can and is capable of
using a regular standard bow and arrow for practice when at
school, he owns a more battle styled crossbow that can fold
inward and snap back into place whenever he needs it. It's
styled in the color of blue. Considering his position at Tsukuba
Academy puts him in the public eye of other students on top of
the constant rumors surfacing, it's a skill that Keita finds
most efficient to him in order to protect the students of
Tsukuba. The arrowheads on his arrows are shaped smoother and
have no barbs. He has a variety of different types of arrows he
uses depending upon the situation he's in and they're usually
"Trick Arrows" that have special functions from that of a
regular arrow.
[li]Trick Arrows - Keita has a variety of trick arrows
that he can use that don't function like a regular arrow. The
trick arrows that Keita normally uses are the following: knock
out gas arrow, exploding arrow, tracker arrow, and net arrow.
Unless the situation calls for it, he won't use these arrows but
they have shown to be useful to him whenever something happens
on campus that can't be handled by regular campus security.
Usually something related to supernatural occurrences where he
provides as back up but will occasionally go out on the front
lines and fight if necessary.[/li]
Martial Arts - Keita while he isn't a sloppy fighter, he can
hold his own in a fight against someone but prefers to use moves
in order to disable a person from harming someone else. He has
been known to perform throwing moves where he grabs someone by
their arm and flips them on their back or toss them a pretty
good distance. He's also able to perform swift kick moves to
knock people off their feet while in a fight or trip someone who
is attempting to escape. He can swiftly avoid punches being
thrown at him but he will not use his own fist to strike someone
back. Not saying he won't but he won't do so unless given a
reason to. After all, even Keita is aware that not all problems
can be solved through fighting but it is effective when needed.
APPEARANCE:
Keita stands at the height of 5'7" with forest green colored
eyes and sandy brown hair with his bangs positioned on the
opposite side and forming a layer with the rest of his hair and
he has an ahoge hair that hangs out over his face though it is
not something that he is most noticed for compared to others.
Majority of the time, Keita is seen with a serious expression on
his face to where he appears unapproachable to others but that
doesn't mean he doesn't smile. He does and shows great
confidence in himself which is what many have noticed and stated
to like about him. As for clothing, he wears a variety of casual
clothing that involves pants and short or long sleeved shirts
with jackets and he'll wear sneakers or boots with them. Though
Tsukuba has a required uniform for boys in his grade, he prefers
to wear an old uniform of his that sort of resembles the uniform
that Juuban has for their younger male students. It's a blue
uniform jacket and pants suit and he wears a long sleeved white
oxford shirt and black suede shoes. However, he wears the jacket
open instead of closed. When dueling, he wears a duel disk on
his right arm.

CHARACTER HISTORY:
Keita Shibata is the older step siblings Asuna and Runa Shibata
and the son of Quan Nguyen, a Vietnamese man and a Japanese
mother named Asami Shibata. Quan was a man though born and
raised in the country of Vietnam, he migrated to the country of
Japan in his early twenties, aspiring for a better life. He was
a freelance artist in search of work and always dreamed of
traveling to new places around the world for inspiration along
with places for his work to be viewed. During his travel to
Japan, he ended up in Kyoto, a city famous for its many
classical Buddhist temples, as well as gardens, imperial
palaces, Shinto shrines and traditional wooden houses. It’s also
known for formal traditions such as kaiseki dining, consisting
of multiple courses of precise dishes, and geisha, female
entertainers often found in the Gion district. All of which was
fascinating to Quan and it was here he was always inspired to
create new art. He made himself quite a bit of money from
museums and temples that wanted to put his art up on display and
it'd at the very least allowed him to set up residence there
until he decided he wanted to leave and travel someplace new.
He never grew tired of learning new history of Japan and
recreating some of that history in the form of his artwork. It
was his artwork that intrigued a woman named Asami Shibata who
was a local doctor in the area working for her family's hospital
in Kyoto. She was a woman that always wanted to help others and
believed she could do just that through medicine. Though
admittedly she wanted to expand her skills and like Quan, travel
to many places all over the world to help people. Her medical
skills were exceptional for she had knowledge of not only your
standard medicinal medications but herbal ones that can be made
by hand through using the right plants in order to create the
proper ointments, herbal teas, etc. Living in Kyoto all her
life, she never really looked at Kyoto in the same manner as
Quan had through his artwork, making the place look and feel so
much more beautiful. She'd seen his work at a local temple she
visited on a regular and the residents of the temple told her of
the man's name who made the paintings they had.
So she made sure that the next time they knew he was coming to
see them to draw off new work to display in their temple, she
wanted to be there when he showed up. Just to know what kind of
person this man was. When she finally did meet him, she was
surprised to find out that he was a Vietnamese man, figuring
that he was a long ways away from home and was curious as to why
he was here in Japan. It isn't as if his own country was too bad
off but then again, every country had its bad parts. Not one
that exists is perfect. But Quan had told her that he was a
freelance painter but fell in love with the beauty of Kyoto.
From time to time, he'll travel to other parts of Japan as well
and paint all he sees but he knows he can't stay in one place
for too long. That's just how he is. Hearing this made Asami
connect with him emotionally for she felt the same. She wanted
to travel to help others doing what she loved and he was doing
what she wanted.
This is what made Asami fall in love with this man and the two
of them began to hang out frequently with each other, learning
everything there is to know about the other. Likes, dislikes,
dreams. Their connections was made through the dreams they
shared and it wasn't long before Quan had fallen in love with
Asami as well. Of course, Asami's family didn't approve of her
being with such a man with frivolous goals and no set career.
Her family is the reason why she feels she can't branch out like
she wants to for she comes from a long family line of doctors
and they've created their own medical practice in which citizens
and members of the family work there in order to keep it
running. While Asami did want to be a doctor, she wanted to
eventually branch out which was something her family disliked
and being around Quan was making these very feelings she had
before to resurface, thus their dislike of the man. The Shibata
family is well known for their healthcare business and they're
not accepting to just anyone that wishes to become part of the
family. It's a right that's usually earned.
Asami never cared much for a pampered life, liking the idea of
working hard for what she wanted because the idea of being
handed things to her wasn't appealing. Never before had she
thought about falling in love with anyone and considered her
life to be quite boring but found content with helping those who
were sick and in need of medical care until she'd met Quan. Her
parents knew that she would hate them if they didn't allow her
to be with this man so they gave her the conditions that she
could marry him but he would have to take on their family's name
and work into the family business. He couldn't expect to earn a
living through art if his work and pay isn't consistent. It was
still unfair and Asami hadn't wanted that for Quan but he agreed
to do it for her. She was also allowed to travel anywhere her
help was needed since this is what she wanted, yet they still
didn't like it. Asami was happy she got to be with Quan and to
follow the dream she had but hated the conditions that went
along with it. As long as he didn't mind, she wouldn't fuss too
much about it. She eventually became pregnant with their first
and only child after two years of marriage, a son they named
Keita.
It was expected after Keita's birth that he too would become
part of the family business, having to work and show that he is
indeed worthy of the Shibata name. Keita grew up a fairly happy
child despite his mother's side of the family being quite strict
and always expecting the best out of everyone within the family.
During Keita's childhood is when he shared a close relationship
with his parents and he wasn't as distant either. He was very
friendly and enjoyed the idea of learning new things but like
any kid, he had his own interests too. After all, many things
became popular in the country of Japan. Besides the revolution
of a wide variety of anime, there were a lot of different games
coming out that were presented for the public and others of all
ages to play. One game in particular that he liked was the game
of Duel Monsters which his grandparents found to be a childish
thing to be interested in despite the game's popularity. Quan
and Asami refused to allow their son's dreams to be shattered by
family duty and allowed him to express himself as much as he
wanted to as long as he was happy. Oh sure, it's not as if Keita
had never tried to get along with his grandparents but they were
strict people from a strict influential family and therefore
wanted their grandson to always be presentable and act with
manners when speaking with them.
As such, he was never able to get close to them like he wanted
to. However, he wasn't just interested in dueling, Keita liked
music as well, something he never thought he'd get into but it
was through associating with other kids his own age at school
that it became something of interest to him. Wanting to make
music that made others feel happy and good. It was during a
school field trip to a music competition in Tokyo in the
Nagasaki district that he became inspired to want to play the
piano. He'd watched one of the performers play the piano and the
music was just so soothing and relaxing to him. That was a
feeling he never wanted to forget. It was also a feeling he
wanted to share with others too and he was excited to tell his
parents about it. Of course, this field trip was also the first
time he encountered another student that he didn't go to school
with. He was a smaller boy that would never be noticed by others
but he saw him walking past the music hall on his way home. He
looked sad and Keita thought it would be a good idea to cheer
him up. He attempted to be friendly with him but the kid seemed
so down it was as if he didn't notice him there.
He stopped him though and figured he'd still try and cheer him
up anyway. So to get his attention, Keita took out his deck,
removed a card from it and gave it to the boy. This very card
was Fairy King Albverdich, one of many powerful new cards in the
game of Duel Monsters. He told the boy to try becoming strong
like the guy in this card for he could be a king too if he just
believed in himself more. Of course the boy doubted him in
regards to that but he did seem more motivated than he did
before and that's what Keita was hoping for. Keita never saw the
kid again after that but told his parents of the nice thing he
did for someone which they were both proud of him for. Things
seemed to be going good for Keita. That is until his mother
eventually had to leave for a medical job in North Korea where a
lot of help was needed in the country. She promised she'd return
to her family soon. Unfortunately, things in North Korea weren't
getting better. They were eventually getting worse and many
people there were killed for even looking at someone the wrong
way or voicing an opinion on a matter they felt was important to
them. Keita prayed constantly for his mother to come home, as
such it made it hard for him to focus on his studies since he
often worried about her.
The dreadful news finally came to the Shibata family. Asami had
been killed just because she'd treated the injury of someone
that was considered an enemy to the country. She along with that
person were shot at point blank range. Barely any of the help
sent to help them got out alive but those that did were able to
inform her family of what happened. Keita took his mother's
death very hard and couldn't believe that she was really gone.
His father felt the same way and did his best to comfort his
son. Asami's parents were obviously sadden by their daughter's
death but they saw it as an opportunity to push their grandson
to his fullest potential which didn't work because he ended up
resenting them more than he did before. Not only because they
refused to let him do what he wanted with his own life that
didn't involve the family business but also because their grief
for their daughter was callous. Like she meant nothing to them
at all other than trying to construct her life just as they were
attempting to do with Keita.
The two of them remained within the Shibata family but not
without Asami's parents arranging for Quan to marry another
woman they felt would be suitable for him. Keita didn't want him
to do that because it's not what his mother would want. Quan
agreed but without work, he wouldn't be able to take care of him
like he wanted. He may not have liked what he did but it enabled
him to take care of the only family he had. As for the woman,
her name was Anko and she was a woman who already had two
children of her own, twin daughters named Asuna and Runa from a
previous marriage. Her husband had disgraced his name by
committing adultery, thus shaming his family. She was a woman
who is the heiress to the Mr. Poppers Popcorn franchise that
started back in the 1950s, making her entire family wealthy with
how popular the popcorn became from when it first came out prior
to the current year. She was more than willing to marry Quan and
take on the Shibata name since he seemed like such a loving and
faithful man. However, Keita was indifferent towards the woman.
He didn't see her as his mother and while his father had his
reasons for marrying her, it still felt wrong to him.
He grew further and further distant from his family. It was then
he'd begun to focus more on the things he wanted to do like
putting in a lot of work towards studying music and learning how
to play the piano. Keita had no interest in wanting to partake
in the family business even though Anko would stress often that
he should show more interest in it to which case he definitely
refused. His new step sisters, although they were nice to him,
he felt uncomfortable with the idea that the girls seemed to be
in love with him and thought it was alright for either one of
them to be with him since they weren't related by blood. Yeah,
Keita has no interest in either of his step sisters yet they're
always fighting over him. Trying to find ways to kiss him so
he'd make up his mind which one of them he'd choose. The girls
were obviously younger than him, they being eleven and he was
fifteen at the time and not only was it wrong but it also was
illegal in his eyes though Japan's customs are quite different
compared to other countries.
His sister's smothering him eventually got on his nerves and he
decided to look for schooling on the outside. After all, he
wanted to get into a good university that would accept him. This
is how he became a student at Tsukuba Academy. A prestigious
school located in the district of Shinjuku that accepts
intelligent students that manage to pass their entrance exam.
Keita scored an outstanding score as well as being presented
with a scholarship that would pay for his tuition as long as his
grades remained high along with his GPA and the scholarship
would also pay for room and board as well. Keita wasn't turning
this down because the school allowed his free range to work on
his music. Unfortunately, getting accepted into this academy
wasn't without its secrets. This school opened up the doors to
things that one would normally consider to be unknown or not
exist. When he first started there, there were rumors he'd heard
by students about strange things happening on campus. Normally,
he wouldn't believe such things but his mind had been changed
when a fellow student had been attacked in the middle of the
night and he'd witnessed it happen by what appeared to be a
strange creature.
Keita knew that no one would believe him so he never said
anything. That is until he began to discover that not all the
students at Tsukuba were as they seemed. Many of them were
humans with strange powers or non human students with human
appearances. While they didn't appear to pose a threat to
anyone, he did notice that they were often targeted and fought
to protect others from getting hurt. It didn't help as students
were steady disappearing or turning up dead. He had no idea what
was going on with this school and what secrets it had but he
wanted to get to the bottom of it. He ran for student council
president during his second year there and one by one he
compiled a different array of students to be part of the council
that had special abilities and skills that would be useful in
order to stop what's going on. Keita himself also took on a bit
of training as well. He would take martial arts classes to
improve his fighting skills but on the outside, he took classes
at a temple belonging to the Doumeki family where they would
take on students interested in learning archery. This was a
skill that became very useful to Keita as it allowed him to be
able to effectively help in protecting the students of Tsukuba.
Because there are strange things going on and the Headmistress
and Headmaster seem to be ignoring it, he takes it upon himself
to do what they aren't doing.
Between his family and the things going on at school, Keita
isn't very trusting of others without first observing them to
make sure he can trust them. He still focuses on his music which
between making sure things remain peaceful on campus and
composing new piano pieces for upcoming music competitions,
rarely finding time to spend to himself to do anything fun. He's
now a junior at Tsukuba and is respected by a lot of students
and disliked by some. It's due to him becoming a very honest and
blunt person which makes him come across as cold and rude,
however, this isn't intentional this is just how he speaks. He
finds no point in hiding the truth and would rather be honest,
even if others dislike it. He is mindful not to be too honest
but he does have a tendency to keep how he's feeling to himself.
He also doesn't like for others to address him by his first name
when they aren't familiar with him. Those that have the
privilege of doing so are members of the student council who
greatly respect him in his efforts to keep everyone safe. In a
way, it's sort of like he's fulfilling his mother's dream,
finding more of a reason to exist rather than just living among
everyone. His music is the only thing he has to hold onto that
makes him happy even if there are times he doesn't show it.
