Not Available hidden monologue
By: LPeyrani Date: May 9, 2019, 7:14 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
I don't know if this has been discussed already, but I think it
definitely belongs here:
HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qado4F_gU3Y
The owner of the YouTube channel, Tmec Rep, and another user,
TheCocoYouKnow, deciphered a good deal of the monologue:
"Once upon a time in a faraway land south of the steaming
jungles, north of the mighty rivers, and east & west of the
wastelands there lived a human person. [?????????] the making of
a sound he liked. His name was only a grunt, but he liked it and
liking something was a perfect awareness that he'd had that was
not directly associated with his survival. In fact, he made this
in almost every facet of his life. He preferred to make up
things he liked. But you'd hardly expect less from a human
person. The man met a human person and they liked each other,
and that's what they liked about liking each other. [???????]
liked [??]; [?????????????] remember what they liked, or why
they liked, and wonder if they even really liked each other; and
this was the second awareness not directly associated with their
survival. The choice seemed to be but to stop wondering
[???????], but liking what the other person didn't like. The
third awareness was the most important [????????]" (fades out)
A slower voice at 0'38": "I no longer [????????]" (also fades
out)
Now, my takes:
"[?????????] the making of a sound he liked" sounds to me "He
named himself at the making of a sound he liked".
"[???????] liked [??]; [?????????????] remember what they liked,
or why they liked, and wonder if they even really liked each
other" sounds to me "But then they hung up about what they
liked, and suddenly one day they needed to remember what they
liked, or why they liked, and what if they weren't even really
likely to care".
"The choice seemed to be but to stop wondering [???????], but
liking what the other person didn't like" sounds to me "The
juice seemed to be that you stop wondering how you happened to
like it that the other person didn't like".
So, editing the whole thing together, we get:
"Once upon a time in a faraway land south of the steaming
jungles, north of the mighty rivers, and east & west of the
wastelands there lived a human person. He named himself at the
making of a sound he liked. His name was only a grunt, but he
liked it and liking something was a perfect awareness that he'd
had that was not directly associated with his survival. In fact,
he made this in almost every facet of his life. He preferred to
make up things he liked. But you'd hardly expect less from a
human person. The man met a human person and they liked each
other, and that's what they liked about liking each other. But
then they hung up about what they liked, and suddenly one day
they needed to remember what they liked, or why they liked, and
what if they weren't even really likely to care; and this was
the second awareness not directly associated with their
survival. The juice seemed to be that you stop wondering how you
happened to like it that the other person didn't like. The third
awareness was the most important [????????]"
What do you think of my additions (and of the rest of the
transcription)? Do you have corrections? Can you get something
of what is being said after "important"? I think I hear "made",
"started", "things", "sad" and "so", but I cannot formulate a
sentence.
IMHO this monologue has a lot to do with Not Available's themes,
and it might be the most direct and revealing part of the
lyrics. Maybe we could link this discussion to the analysis of
the album in the Projects section.
Let me know!!

Two more tentantive reconstructions:
1) the second voice, slower, coming in at 00:38, might well be
saying: "I no longer love you";
2) the last sentence might be: "The third awareness was the most
important and made things sheerly out of nostalgia, to the same
degree [????????]".
These, together with some minor corrections, sum up to:
"Once upon a time in a faraway land south of the steaming
jungles, north of the mighty rivers, and east & west of the
wastelands there lived a human person. He named himself at the
making of sounds he liked.
But
then they hung up about what they liked, and suddenly one day
they needed to remember what they liked, or why they liked, and
what if they weren't even really likely to care; and this was
the second awareness not directly associated with their
survival. The juice seemed to be that you stop wondering how you
happened [I no longer love you] to like
it that the other person didn't like. The third awareness was
the most important and made things sheerly out of nostalgia, to
the same degree [????????]"
Do you agree?
