Wild Roses Chapter 1

Padme sighed happily as she dug into the soft earth. She had
just gotten Princess Kida's permission to plant her favorite
flower-roses- in the courtyard, by the stone benches. She smiled
down at the light pink flowers, neatly planted in the ground.
Luckily today was overcast, so the sun wasn't beating down on
her back. She began to put away her tools when she saw a figure
in the distance, walking toward her.

Belle could smell the fragrance long before she saw the roses,
and their gardener. They were both positioned close by the small
stone bench that she usually read on. "What beautiful roses,"
she said.

"Thank you," Padme replied, "They are my favorite. I'm thankful
that Kida let me plant them here. I'm no professional at this,
but I figure if I can plant them at home I can plant them here,
right?" She smiled at the brown-haired girl.

"Indeed. You are doing a fantastic job with them. They are
blooming so beautifully, and they smell absolutely wonderful."
Belle smiled and stretched out her hand. "My name is Belle. It
is nice to meet you."

Padme brushed off her skirt and shook Belle's hand. "Padme," she
replied. "What brings you to the courtyard this afternoon?"

The maid held up her book. "I come here to read sometimes when I
am not needed in the castle. It's a beautiful place to just
sit."

Padme nodded in agreement. She loved the peacefulness of it all.
She grabbed her nearby basket and opened it up, taking out a
couple of pieces of fruit and offering one to Belle. The maid
happily took it and Padme reached in to grab a book of her own.
"What are you reading?" She asked curiously.
Meanwhile, the two young women did not realize it, but they were
being watched. A pair of bright blue eyes peered at them through
the leaves of a nearby tree. He loved to watch the young woman
who planted flowers often, but now he saw that she had made a
friend. He narrowed his vision. The two looked very much alike,
and they were both very beautiful. He brushed the sandy-blonde
hair from his eyes and continued to watch, entranced by the
sight of the two beautiful maidens.

"Pride and Prejudice," Belle answered, taking a moment to bite
into the fruit. It was sweet and delicious. "How about you?"

"It's a series called 'Gregor the Overlander'". She smiled.
"It's not as detailed as 'Pride and Prejudice', though. It's
more of an adventure book." She opened up and began to read,
becoming completely absorbed in the story.
The boy hiding in the tree watched the two women talk. He sighed
happily. They were so beautiful...if only one of them noticed
him...
While he was daydreaming, he lost his grip on the branch and
tumbled down to the ground with a THUMP! The two women looked up
at him, startled, and he froze, completely unable to move.

Belle was the first to react to the mysterious boy's appearance.
She started laughing, forgetting that he fell out of a tree. She
reached down to help the poor blond up, however, she did not
have the ability to speak yet.
