Aang listened. Appa groaned more loudly. But it
wasn't a greeting. something seized his heart. That was
definitely not a greeting. The moaning was getting closer, and
as Aang listened, he heard tramping foosteps. He turned to the
others. "All of you, get down there. NOW!" he said in a loud
whisper. "And be quick and quiet!" he said urgently, practically
shoving them into hole. "Zelda can light a fire. I'll bend the
earth. Fire nation are coming!" he hissed. He had to save Appa
and divert the troops, and pray he came out out of it alive. He
quickly bent the earth as the last person went in, and turned
toward the direction of the sounds of foosteps. They were quiet,
because they wanted to sneak up on them, but there were so many
he wondered how he'd missed them.

Link took over when Aang left. "Zelda, thank you for the fire.
Everyone huddle close, and stay quiet!" He lightly touched the
sword at his side, itching to fight with Aang...but alas, he did
not know as much about the enemy as Aang did. In his own time
period, the Fire Nation was simply a myth...

Aang quickly thought about what the best tactic
would be. He slipped quietly toward the sound of Appa's panicked
moans. He couldn't be sure how many fire troopers there were,
but they must have caught Appa, and must have found a way to
track him. Appa was obviously key. He quickly and silently
scurried into a tree, with his glider close at hand and listened
and watched, waiting for the Fire Nation troops to appear. He
hoped he could protect the others, especially the Savior.

Zelda started a fire between her hands and threw it towards a
pile of wood that was nearby as everyone huddled around the new
       fire.

(I just got an awesome idea!! Hermione will be a
firebender, and she will, later, join the "good" side w/ Aang,
       kinda like Zuko!)

Hermione marched in perfect order with the
other firebenders, and noticed as the trees rustled slightly.
"Stop," she whispered to Azula, who snarled slightly, quietly at
her, "Look at the trees," Hermione hissed to the commander,
daughter of the Fire Lord. Azula glared at the breeze that had
       sprung up around them, contemplating.
"Just keep the bison moving," she snarled back,
thinking of what she could do to make an example of a soldier
caught taking to her, and spoiling their plans. Just then, a
blast of air and water hit them, and the bison roared loudly,
straining at the ropes around his six legs.
(anyone else can have fun taking it from here if they want :) )

Aang sent quick jets of fire at the ropes
binding Appa, which burnt, and Appa quickly broke free, the fire
nation soldiers backing away as the beast roared his head, and
knocked over half the army with his giant, beaver-shaped tail,
       rising into the sky.
"Somebody stop him!" Azula shrieked, but most of
the soldiers were too wary, she glared at them, "Don't you dare
retreat!! Are you more afraid of me or the Avatar!?" the
soldiers jumped to attention, running around, looking for the
Avatar and shooting fire at Appa, but Aang had leapt into the
leaves of a tree across the river in the commotion. He slowly
stopped the river, and it built up. Azula seethed and shouted,
but only one soldier noticed the River rising rapidly.
       ---------------------------------------------------------
"Watch out!" Hermione yelled through her helmet.
Throwing caution to the wind of Azula's wrath, Hermione ripped
off her fire nation helmet, and ran, trying to shout over the
commotion that the river was rising. Azula heard her, and her
head turned, but it was too late. Aang had let the River go, and
all of the fire nation's soldiers were swept away by the
current, probably for several miles. Hermione was smart enough
to know she was no match for the Avatar, and hid behind a tree,
the only one of a small battalion to avoid being swept away.

Belle crouched low, her head was splitting open and she couldn't
do anything about it. She gritted her teeth. In her mind she saw
       little incomprehensible flashes.
Edmund noticed her pain and bent down. "You okay?" he asked.
Belle shook her head, tears beginning to well in her eyes. "I
can't see anything... and it hurts... make it stop," she
whispered. Edmund almost couldn't hear her, but he was able to
       catch the jidst and nodded.
"We need to keep moving," he announced, standing. "The longer we
sit here, the more like sitting ducks we are. Aang is powerful,
I'll admit that, but even he can't hold off an army forever. We
should use this as an opportunity to escape."

Aang dashed back to the hidden hole all
of his new acquaintances were hiding in. Appa grunting and
thundering behind him, shaking the ground slightly. He bent the
earth out of the way. And nearly collapsed. The bending had been
exhausting, almost as exhausting as the Avatar state. Appa
grunted at the people as if in a suspicious greeting and Aang
fell to his knees, breathing hard, the others peering out of the
dark at him, ready to climb out.
