blond hair asked. Aang glanced around. "I'll explain when we're
not so exposed. Come on, we need to get into hiding."

They followed Aang swiftly, although some
followed cautiously and rather reluctantly, and would cast him
suspicious glances. Aang felt uncomfortable, but he couldn't do
much but hope to gain their trust. He had to go on with his
mission. It was his duty as the Avatar. "Shh..." he said,
holding up a hand. They all halted rather suddenly. "We need to
get underground briefly. Give me a sec," leaning down, he closed
his eyes, feeling into the earth for a cave, or underground
tunnel or anything they could hide in for the night, become
aquainted, and all get caught up in everything they needed to be
watching out for.

Aang stood up, a triumphant gleam in his
eyes. "I believe there's a hidden cave about 50 to a hundred
paces ahead?" he said with the slightest hesitancy in his voice.
He wish Toph was here. She was much better at the whole
"feeling-the-earth" thing than he was. She would be able to
detect metal better too.

Zelda gave Link a reassuring look that everything would be okay.
They continued walking behind Aang hoping that he knew what he
was doing.

He felt the earth beneath him, and suddenly
stopped. "Here," he said. Although, there didn't appear to be
much around them at all. He felt confused, but the earth told
him solidly that there should be shelter here.

Aang closed his eyes for a split second. It
should be right there. He opened them again, and, decided he
might have been wrong. He took a single step forward, and fell
with a loud shout.

"Aang!!!!" Zelda whistled as loud as she could and a large
beautiful ancient loftwing appeared and she jumped down the hole
and the loftwing flew down under her. She sped up and was able
to catch Aang and they made it to the bottom of the hole safely.
Aang gave her loftwing a very weird look. Zelda petted her
loftwing, "she's for emergencies only. She is the last of her
kind."
She tried to look around the hole but it was clouded with dirt,
"is this the cave I presume?"

"Yup," Aang said. Aang shook his head at the
bird. He'd only heard of them in legends. He smiled, and
approached the bird. "Hello," he said softly, and then even more
quietly. "I'm the last of my kind too," he glanced around.
"Would you like to meet Appa?" he asked the bird. "He's the last
airbison."
