Sherlock sighed. "There's no way I can
get this to your boyfriend... fiance, whatever, without some
means of transport," he said rather bluntly and impatiently to
Tiana. If he had to do this, he wanted to get it out of the way
quickly.

Tiana raised an eyebrow at Sherlock, "you're how old again? I
thought you were one of the smartest people here and you don't
have a loftwing yet?" Tiana tried her best to keep poking at him
so he felt challenged to go on her mission; seemed to be the
only way he would do anything.

Sherlock sneered. "15," he replied
automatically. "And no, miss Tiana, I don't. They don't work
with me. Smarter than getting myself in a crash because of some
idiotic bird. Plus, knowing how to fly a loftwing is trivial
information. I find other means, or someone else drives the
crazy bird." He finished.

John shook his head at his rather insensitive
new room mate. He didn't like him, but at the same time, he felt
himself irresistably drawn to him. He looked at Tiana with
interest. "Where do you get a loftwing? I only just arrived..."
he trailed off, watching her closely.

Tiana could tell she was pushing Sherlock but she felt in
control somehow, "good luck traveling around without one. This
city being in the sky and all..."
She turned to John and her mood lifted slightly, "You get one
when you're around 10 or so. It's sort of like a ritual, you
pick the loftwing that you have a connection with and that
loftwing will be flown by just you."

John wilted slightly. "So... since I'm 16 I won't
be able to get one..."

Sherlock shook his head. "I doubt there'd be a
loftwing who would bond to me. Might even be willing to give it
a try, just to prove you wrong. I don't think there's a loftwing
for every single person. That would seem unlikely." But he
couldn't pretend his interest wasn't slightly piqued by the
thought that there could be a bird suitable for him. However, he
doubted it, and successfully kept his keenness masked.
(Oh, yeah, Angie, I forgot to tell you, the whole only way
to get him to do anything was very in-character 4 Sherlock. You
know him pretty well! have you seen any?

"You can get one at any time! It's just usually people do it
around that age." Zelda said in a friendly voice and then turned
to Sherlock and snatched back the letter from him "it just
sounds to me like you can't do it."

"Fine," Sherlock said coolly. "It was boring
anyway. But I'm your best bet," he added at the end, and was
infuriated to see John smile knowingly. How could this ordinary
boy, who happened to be his room mate, know him so well, when
they'd only just met and he had no visible means of brilliant
deduction as he did?

Sherlock smirked. "Then break your promise," he
said quietly, his eyes glinting as he watched her freeze in her
tracks. John gave him a livid glare. Sherlock thought silently
to himself that there were plenty of people he knew with
loftwings. Molly would be the most likely to help out. He
watched carefully for the girl's reaction.

Tiana couldn't break her promise but she couldn't stand Sherlock
at the same time. She gripped the letter in her hand yet still
stood still and refusing to turn around but didn't want to go
against what Dean said either.
