The Hidden Secrets of Experiments: Chapter 1 ~ Flying

Belle loved flying above any other activity she could think of,
even reading. There was something liberating about being high
above the world, wind whipping at your face, and the only things
standing between you and a pancake-like end being a set of
speckled white wings on your back. Belle smiled and whirled
around, feeling her muscles flex. God, it had been so long since
she'd been out. Too long.
Belle closed her eyes and thought about the ground. The stone
cities and grand churches. Everything was set for you, but up
here, anything was possible. She liked to imagine that she was a
pilot or a great adventurer. Even the danger appealed to her,
unlike the many heros and heroines of her books. A lot of them
wanted a normal life. Not her, her life was all ready abnormal,
why not make it exciting as well?

Padme continued running, trying to stop herself from screaming.
She didn't know what was going on- she just knew that they were
after her. When she was sure they were gone, she surveyed her
surroundings. A forest, late at night....she found a nice,
covered place and fell asleep.
Morning broke softly, and she spent it staring at the sky. From
out of nowhere, a giant bird crossed the clouds. But...it was
far too big to be a bird....and she had the sensation that it
was...human?
She stood up and moved a branch aside, getting a clearer look.
Yes, it WAS human...with bird wings... Padme stood in awe at the
beauty of the creature in flight.

Belle was in the middle of a tetra loop when the pager on her
wrist started buzzing. She'd been caught. Belle grinned. So
worth kitchen duty.
She looped one more time and glided back to the mansion

The beautiful human-bird creature swooped, then landed not too
far off. Padme smiled, something she hadn't done in a while. She
tried to gauge the distance in her mind. Perhaps she was just
close enough to catch a glimpse of the creature...
Before she knew it, she was sprinting along toward the landing
site.

Belle heard a crackle behind her and whipped around, old
instincts flaring. "Who's there," she demanded, closing her
wings tight behind her back.

Padme revealed herself slowly. The being spoke- this was
interesting. "Padme", she said softly, her eyes glowing blue
slightly, then fading again. "And yourself?"

Belle wasn't interested in niceties. She fingered the
pocketknife in her sleeve. Curse Karon for not letting her have
something bigger. "State your business," she told the wild girl.

"Well..." Padme looked around nervously, "They want me so they
can experiment on me. I'm different. Like you...but not as
pretty." she said the last part shyly.
