closed his book and slipped it in the messenger bag he always

Aang ran through the tree he knew so well. He heard
voices. Zipping up the tree, completely silently, he watched
silently with his grey eyes, not knowing whether the voices were
friendly or not. He didn't want to run into any of his
enemies... He saw a brunette girl and a guy with brown hair
conversing. They suddenly stopped. "...part of forest is
this?... don't recognize..." "...was following you..." the boy
responded. Aang looked more closely. He didn't know them. If
they were lost, he should help. Climbing swiftly and quietly
down, he landed lightly on the forest floor and walked toward
them. "Are you lost?" he called out to them amiably.

Padme swiveled to the sound of the new voice. "Hello?" It was
getting darker out, and she could only make out a silhouette.
"Who's there?"

Aang came out with a friendly smile. "My name's
Aang. I can help you guys if you're lost. I know these woods
better than the back of my hand."

Padme glanced at Dean, uncertainty in her eyes. Should they
trust this stranger? It was a part of the forest she was not
familiar with...

Aang saw the uncertainty he had felt minutes before
reflected in their own eyes. "It's alright." he said. He heard a
small trilling/purring sound and looked around to see his
friend, Mo-mo in the tree above him. "Hey Mo-mo." Aang said
happily. "C'mon down, boy." The lemur obliged and leaped nimbly
from the tree onto Aang's shoulder, looking at the strangers
with wide, Lemur eyes.

Padme's eyes widened with recognition. The little lemur! She
smiled. Ever since she began practicing her harp with the widows
open, the small, furry creature had climbed up to the sill and
listened to her play. She had grown fond of little guy, and the
uneasiness was lifted. After all, if the lemur trusted this
person, she could too. "Hi, I'm Padme. And this is Dean. Where
are we?"

Aang nodded. "We're in the western part of the
woods. To get back to school, we need to head east. There's a
few paths and such we can follow to go back. It won't be hard.
Like I said, I know these woods. Follow me." Aang said,
gesturing, and walking swiftly, silently and nimbly along the
familiar forest floor, glancing behind him to make sure his two
new acquaintances were following in his wake.

boy.

They came out of the woods quickly, the
atmosphere lightening as they came out of the dark trees, and
they entered back into the school grounds, the lemur still
riding on Aang's shoulder. "Here we are." Aang said, gesturing,
smiling. "See you guys tomorrow during school?" he asked,
surprised at his own hopefulness.
