Wild Roses Chapter 3: Only the Beginning
DIR By: Becca de LeAcH

The Summary was removed because it is now a separate topic.
Last Post: Padme arrived just as Tiana was getting more food
prepared. She hesitated. Would Tiana believe her? Even if she
did, it would look like Padme had done it on purpose. She
summoned her courage and walked over to the cook. "Tiana? I
really need your help...."

Lucy had gone to the refeshment table, and upon picking up a
beautifuly frosted cookie it struck. "Why didn't I think of it
before! Of course!" And she rushed into the gardens.
_________________________________________________________________
It the next hour, three more of the potentials were taken away
into the ball. With jobs.
Duck was becomind dishearted. Then out came a girl with long
strawberry blond hair, in a beautiful red ball gown. She looked
about Duck's age. Duck didn't reconzie her, but everyone eles
seemed to.
The deep bows and curtisies were instontaions, so Duck followed
suit.
"Please," she said in a sweet soprano voice. The people around
her stood. "Your highness, what brings you here?" one of the
braver canidates ventured.
'Your highness!?' Duck was dumbfounded. Here before her stood
the Princess, and she hadn't even reconzied her.
"I'm looking for a servant with very particular skills." Duck
deflated, all hope she had was gone. She didn't have any
particular skills, she barely had any skills at all.
"What skills would those be?" The Princess just smiled, "Why did
you come here tonight?"
"Uh," the man was startled. "to see if I couldn't find a better
life more self here."
"Alright, and you?" she asked another. "to inquire after a job."
The Princess asked each one in turn, and all the anwsers were
essentially the same. Duck's turn ended up twoards the back of
the middle, if that made any senes. She had planned on anwsering
the same as everyone eles, but instead said, "To find myself."
The last words had been replaced all on their own. She stared at
the ground as the others suppresed smirks.
When she asked everyone, she turned to one of the potentials at
random - it was Duck. "I have two questions for you. First, if
you could have any piece off my dress - what would you chose?
And second - if you could have a job with me tonight or give the
rest of the people here a job in the palace, which would you
chose?"
Duck was startled and it shown on her face as clear as the rays
of dawn. "Welll" she stuttered and looked at the dress. It had
many fine fabrics, but they would only get her enough money for
a couple days. What she needed was a job. Then she saw the
beautiful flowers and knew, although worthless they would bring
her far more joy. "I guess those," she said pointing.
The Princess looked suprised, but pleased. "And to my second
query?"
Then she looked around at the few stranglers in want of a job.
Who was to say they didn't need it as bad, if not more than she?
The few that she felt did not deserve a job had already been
hired. She wanted a job desperatly, and one with the Princess
was sure to pay well. But she'd probably get fired in a day
anyways... "I'd give jobs to everyone eles." She sounded
degeteced but sure.
"Very well, it shall be." Everyone looked up in suprise. "Yes,
you all have secured jobs and may join the ball." Everyone did
so in a flurry of exciment.
Expect Duck, she sank on to the bench. "And these are for you."
The Princess smiled and handed Duck the flowers.
"Oh. Thank you, Your Majest-OW!" Duck looked down to see blood
dripping from her finguer where she had pricked it on the the
thorn of a rose.

(As a side note, I wrote that entire second half from memory.
Boo yah! XD)
Belle didn't know what else to do, so she just stood on the
sidelines and watched at the prince and princess danced. Her bad
mood fell away as she watched the siblings exchange words in
hushed tones as they whirled across the dance floor. When the
dance ended, she noted that the princess scurried away to the
area that hopefuls looking for jobs waited. Belle remembered
being in that same garden, once upon a time. It was shortly
after her father died, and she was left with no way to provide
for herself.
She frowned, remembering the reason she'd been singled out in
the first place.
"Brother," the princess said, pointing at Belle, who'd been
wearing the only dress she owned, a small, blue scrap of fabric
in comparison to the finery around her. "Don't you think she'd
be pretty dressed up?"
The dark haired boy smiled devilishly, as if he were all ready
planning her future torments. "She'd fit the image of a maid
better," he sneered.
"Then let it be so," the princess replied, smiling. The prince's
smirk didn't fall, in fact, it sharpened, and the next morning,
she had spiders to clean out of the dorm rooms.
She was so stuck in memory lane that she didn't notice the
prince approaching her until he stood before her. Belle looked
around, weren't there more people in here than before? How the
hel* had he managed to single her out?
The prince coughed and held out his hand. "I feel obligated to
ask you for a dance," he said.
"Why should I dance with you?"
"Because it's a ball. People are suppose to dance," he answered,
clearly not catching the key word.
"I understand that."
"Then why not dance with me?"
Belle could think of no good reason that would keep her out of
the stocks, so she grasped his hand and allowed him to lead her
to the dance floor.

(You missed one thing I'm sorry I always feel like I'm
critisizing you!>.< The note that Padme received said that the
thorns on the prince and princess's outfits are poisonness and
Tiana was pricked by one while dancing with Dean and then she
went back to work where Padme walked up to her for help)
"Sure thing Padme what's going on?" Tiana's body began to sway
back in forth she seemed not to really have a sense of balance.
There were moments where she saw two of Padme and then one and
two once again. She shook her head trying to collect herself.

"Are you alright?" Lucy bent down, examing the girl.
"I'm fine! Really." Duck said passionatly and then began to suck
on her fiunger. "Well, if your sure...." Lucy's voice was laced
with concern. "What's your name?"
"Ahiru."
"Well Miss Ahiru, please come join the ball." Duck looked
suprised. "You should have one night of fun, as payment for your
generous act."
"Thank you!" Duck really had no desire to go to the ball, execpt
for the promise of food. Her stomach felt like an angry monster.
They made their way inside as Duck started to feel woozy. She
clutched the flowers from the Princess tightly.

Merida wanted to scream. She was bored, sweaty, and irriated.
The onslaught of men asking her to dance seemed endless. Even
the braty prince had requested her hand at one point.
She was glad the night was beging to close. She could feel
midnight drawing 'nigh. Then it was speeches, the last dance,
and the torture would be over.
If she was lucky there would be some cake leftover, and she
could take it.

(That's okay. I can't catch everything. I'll adjust it
accordingly after I post my reply.)
Fakir was slightly pleased with this turn of events. It would be
so much easier to find a business partner inside, instead of in
that tiny courtyard. He questioned the intelligence behind the
decision in the first place. Clearly, he had not been thinking
right.
__________
Belle and Edmund whirled on the dancefloor politely, neither
speaking a word to the other. The dance ended, yet the prince
did not escort the maid off the floor. When she asked why, he
answered, "Because it's no fun to be at a party alone."
"I wasn't alone," she insisted.
"Sure..." he droned sarcastically.

Padme saw the way Tiana was acting, and immediately ran for the
Princess. Unfortunately, she was nowhere to be found. Her
brother, on the other hand, had just finished dancing with
Belle, so she hurried over to them. "Your Highness!" she called.

Duck couldn't stand. She couldn't breath. It felt like her whole
body was on fire. She looked down at her pricked finger and
insticvily knew.
The princess ran to help her, but the girl shouted, "No! Its
posion," she reavled the the flower and Lucy saw with a start
shining green on the tip of the thorns. It was almost invisble
unless you were looking for it.
"I don't want - you'll get it too - no," her sentences were
fragmented as the world topped around her. But one thing was
clear in Duck's mind - she had to get away. The flowers and her,
before anyone eles, especially the princess was posioned to. She
ran blindly for the door.

Merida gasped as a red hair girl toppled in front of her. Her
bow was out in a flash and she leaned down to girl. Her mouth
was filled with a foam and she was losing consicess fast. A
garbled noise was coming from her mouth.
Merida leaned closer and could barely make out a "posion" "stay
away" "no" "princes-" and then the girl was out cold.
People nearest were drawing nearer for a closer look, but
Merida's bow and icy stare kept them at bay. She couldn't risk
having anyone else get infected.

If any words left Padme's mouth Tiana certaintly didn't
understand them. Tiana saw her run into the group of dancing
people in a hurry. She now had no sense of balance, her feet
were going back and forth, the music was fading as was her
vision and then; nothing.

Edmund heard the call and turned to see the brown haired
gardener approaching him. "Yes?" he inquired, worry suddenly
lacing his heart. The worry grew stronger when he caught a
glimpse of Lucy hurrying his way. "What's wrong?"
