Belle smiled at him, noticing his gaze. "I'll go finish
breakfast. Fakir, try to keep him entertained."
"How am I suppose to do that?"
"You're the storyteller. Figure it out." She dashed from the
room and started making noise in the kitchen.
Fakir started grumbling about how he wasn't that good a
storyteller and how she would never change.

Link smirked. "So..if you are going to tell a story, I'd like to
know the one about her. Who is this guy she's talking about who
is making her heart hurt?"

"So she told you about Edmund," Fakir said. "All right. You want
the long story or the short one?"
Before Link could answer, Belle called from the kitchen, "Long
one!"
Fakir chuckled. "Okay. Well, Edmund has been my friend since we
were infants. We grew up together, side by side. Didn't find out
about Belle till we were almost eight, but when we did, her
mother moved her close by so that she and I could get to know
each other and not be mortal enemies. At least, that's what she
says."
"It's true!"
"Are you going to let me tell the story or not?"
"Go ahead, but do it better!"
Fakir sighed. "Anyway, shortly after Edmund turned nine, his
parents had another child. It was a girl. They named her Lucy. A
month after she was born, she disappeared. No one knows exactly
what happened. No one but Edmund. He was in the room with her
that night, and they found him shivering in his blanket the next
morning, his arm all bloody. I didn't know what to do, but Belle
seemed to. She went under the cover and talked him out of his
cocoon. He didn't talk to anybody but her for an entire week,
which wasn't that big a deal considering his parents wouldn't
let him outside. Belle and I were confined to our houses too.
The only way we were able to go out was if our mothers took us.
After that, Edmund seemed to recover fast. He began eating more,
and talking to others, but he still attatched himself to Belle.
Personally--"
"Keep your opinions out!" Belle shouted.
"Fine! Anyway, he kissed her when they were thirteen and they've
been together ever since." Fakir lowered his voice. "But all he
seems to do nowadays is hurt her. Every word that comes out of
his mouth is laced with thoughts of Lucy, and he looks right
past everybody. If I had my way, she would have broken up with
him years ago." He sat back up. "The end!"

Understanding filled Link's eyes. He lowered his voice to a
whisper. "So, if I were to...say...court her, I have your
permission? She's beautiful, and all I want to do is see her
happy." he admitted.

"Long as you're okay with dealing with Edmund when he returns,"
Fakir replied, nonchalant. "Oh, and don't you dare hurt her, or
you'll have me to deal with."

"Good," Fakir said, leaning back in his chair. Just then, Belle
bustled out, her arms laden with plates covered in bread spread
with raspberry jam and eggs. Fakir stood up and helped her
before she ended up dropping something.
"Dig in!" Belle announced.

Linked looked at the food. "May I?" he asked politely. It all
looked delicious.
