Spiral knights : Butter knife - Chapter 1
By: KaunLeon Date: May 11, 2013, 9:39 am
---------------------------------------------------------
The eyelid of Echo’s slowly lifted up, marking a new day
in “haven”. But this is an unusual day as Echo woke up 30
minutes later than
usual. All of that was due to the fight with the Royal Jelly
yesterday…
Echo closes his eyes once again and remains silence on
his bed of peaceful. Thinking of the dangerous palace he went
through
yesterday. Every step inside the palace was risky. There were
traps, gates, turrets and lumbers. Something jellies would have
never been
able to set up. Echo saw two men in his dream, or rather memory.
One of the men was Connor, Echo’s friend and Echo himself.
“Connor, I’ll scout on ahead.” Echo did not wait for Connor’s
reply and put on his black hood, walked past the gate they set
up. Though he
still heard a voice coming from his back, “Very well, I shall
stay on guard here.” Echo did not look back, nor stop walking
until he reaches a
staircase. “Things could get rough past this point.” Echo
reminded himself once more, checking his gears. He tightened
every single belt on
his armor, especially the one holding his cold steel katana
machete, also known as the silent nightblade. After all the
preparations, Echo
held his dark thorn shield on the left hand and his silent
nightblade on the other hand. He started pushing forward while
putting
concentration on his every part of body. Echo’s hunter sense was
pumped to the top of the mountain. He took every one of his
steps with
cautious. He is ready to take on any ambushes or traps.
The staircase leads to a long hallway. And there is a gate at
the other end. Echo was wondering if this abandoned palace which
was
taken over by jellies was one of the gremlin race heritages.
“That gate looks very much like the gremlins’ products.” Echo
whispered to
himself. He thought, but did not let his guard down. The hallway
was still in dead silence, but the branches intersecting the
main hallway
could still be dangerous. Just as Echo was telling himself, a
pack of 3 medium sized jellies slipped out from one of the
branches to main
hallway. Echo is not afraid of a few brainless jellies, but
rushing out can get the knight to be surrounded or turning his
vulnerable back to
slimey yet powerful jellies. Concerning about that situation,
Echo took a right into a small room with nothing but a stone
rock. Echo then
turned left into a small hallway, parallel to the main one,
though they do not see each other. Adam avoided the grass patch
in the middle of
the hallway, and stopped at the mid-point as he is sure some
spike slimes are waiting around the corner to the next room.
Echo crawled
down with his belly sticking to the ground. He focused and then
saw another stone block identical to the one he first saw. After
poking
around in this section, Echo had a map drawn in his mind,
hallways in shape of rectangle being cut off by the main hallway
at the mid-point.
Echo did not engage any slime on his trip back to Connor. Echo
picked up Connor and go. They came up with a plan, Connor taking
the left
path and Echo taking the right path. There should not be any
trouble dealing with a few spike slimes.
Echo hold on to his silent nightblade tightly, a yellow
bubble appeared around Echo. It is called the “charge”. Each
weapon has its own
unique charge attack, useful in certain situations and dealing
greater damage in general. There were two slimes Echo locked on
to. Echo
charged at the slimes but they didn’t notice Echo until its too
late. Echo released the silent nightblade charge attack, the
blade itself cut
right into one slime itself leaving a deep cut. But the charge
was not over, the blade emitted several purple shadow pulps
exploding one by
one in straight. The slime closer to Echo took the first
explosion and blew up into gel scattered on the grass patch.
While the other got
pushed back meters and staggered. During the slime’s stun window
it is the best and safest time to deliver the death blow, Echo
certainly
did not miss it. He raised the blade above his head. Putting
force at his leg, he hushed at speed of bullets going straight
for the slime, no
noise was made but the slime blew up, some gel even flew out a
few meters. That was quick and silence. The slimes didn’t even
know what
hit them.
Meanwhile at Connor’s side, Connor charged his shadowtech
alchemer just like Echo did to his silent nightblade. A huge
bullet was shot
out into a group of three slimes. The bullet exploded and
separated into four piece bouncing off the slime who received
the direct impact.
Two slimes were left severely hurt after the “Cannon shot”. They
turned around trying to locate the hit man. However what they
saw was a
small blue electric ball. Just as the ball was about to hit
them, it exaggerated dramatically in size and knocked the two
slimes far away next
to the stone blocks in the next room. Connor put away his
gigawatt pulsar and pulled out the shadowtech alchemer again
which he was
using, he shot two bullets at the stone block which broke them
apart into 8 small bullets hitting the rest of the group, they
exploded into a
big pile of gel. Connor was proud of the moves he performed and
shouted around the corner “That was an awesome double tap!”
Though it
was not approved by Echo “Don’t try to fool me, you can’t do
double taps with alchemer series guns.” Connor was a little
annoyed that he
made a statement: Don’t tell a gun slinger what he can’t do!
They were chit-chating, but not relaxed. They headed for
stone blocks on each of there sides, unfortunately they found
nothing of
switches and buttons contraptions. “It must be the stone block
in the middle of main hallway then.” Echo was sure about that,
he just
knows too much about gremlins with all the days he has gone
through. “It better be.” replied Connor. Connor just randomly
shot a bullet at
the last stone block and it seems that a switch was really
hidden inside the block. “Chin!” the gate at the end of the main
hallway was
unlocked to allow the Connor and Echo’s progress into the jelly
palace.
