       It was a verification of the users identity. That the person was
       who the person pretended to be. Which especially for celebrities
       sportsmen politicians and religious people at all was a pretty
       good thing. But everyone could apply. I dont consider myself one
       of the above categories but I still tried to get a blue tick. I
       have about  twitter followers and have been active as a serious
       user since . That should qualify me as a verified account I
       think. But no. Despite applying I did not get the coveted blue
       mark.
       I have no idea why I was weighed and found too light. But that
       was kind of the problem with the old model. The blue ticks were
       apparently distributed a little too well behaved in twitter HQ.

       unnoticed that the tech icon Elon Musk
       now owns Twitter and that this has led to some changes. Musk
       wants to make money from the dirt and you cant suspect him of
       that. And its not far from idea to action with the rocket man.
       The Twitter tick should not be so elitist.

       Suddenly it became possible to buy into the brand. With the
       completely predictable result that countless accounts were
       created where someone pretended to be either a wellknown company
       or a wellknown person and said . So fake news on a silver
       platter. The Twitter tick came back into the engine room and now
       it is an additional purchase that gives access to the blue mark
       and a number of extra features such as editing tweets fewer
       advertisements and the ability to write longer tweets up to
       characters I get completely exhausted by the idea.
