Spiral Knights : Butter knife - Chapter 10
By: KaunLeon Date: July 11, 2014, 10:13 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
“Sir I got eyes on another gremlin troop, few miles away.” A
knight reported hastily to Lieutenant. “Hmm this is the fourth
time a gremlin army is this close by, I don’t think we can
cleanly avoid this one, our luck has to
       run out sometimes soon…”

Lieutenant said so, along with a long deep sign. “Let’s
just hope Spec Ops comes before we get demolished.” “Incoming!”
A knight with binoculars suddenly shouted out loud, breaking
every knight out of their tense
webs. Yet this does not ease of relieve their stress, but to
explode and erupt. “Set up the turrets! No point holding back if
we do not live! Should Spec Ops comes during out battle, then
victory will be at our side.”
Lieutenant ordered and raised the morality of his knights. Even
though the knights are all tired, they are man of steel.
Without hesitation the gremlins are already charging. Sword
masters hold a line at the front while Recons and Gunslingers
stay back a little. Yet the battlefield seemed to be changed and
located right on top of the
gremlins. Lieutenant thought something was not right and took a
pair of binoculars. “Boys that’d be our man! They are here in
one piece at last. Charge to help them!” The knights heard it,
       and rushed towards the gremlins
while remaining in lines. “It looks like they’re destroying the
gremlin mortars, explosives, causing a huge chaos.” Lieutenant
observed carefully in his binoculars. Smoke is coming out from
       the gremlins main troop and
gremlins are roaming around without a sense of direction. It
almost seems like they’re lost. The knights took care of the
lost gremlins no problem and flanked the main troop with Spec
Ops. Dallas’ Sudaruska had done most
of the work as its AOE attack fits these kind of situations
perfectly. Spec Ops’s surprise attack completely trashed one of
       Seerus’ troops.
The knights from Spec Ops saluted Lieutenant, as Lieutenant
then saluted them back. “Thanks for saving our lives, I owe you
one.” Lieutenant then goes back onto the mission, “the war has
not been over yet, as long
as Seerus still breathes. We must exterminate Seerus.” “We Alpha
and Beta squad are not in very good shape, so we can only act as
a distraction. Your squad will have to go in to Seerus’ lair
       alone. Good luck.” After the
last mission, Echo turned around facing Dallas, Connor and Eva
“You heard the man. We go in, kill Seerus, destroy his facility,
and get out. Clear?” “Let’s do this.” “I need a long vacation
break when this is all over.” “Yes
sir!” Echo’s member made some not so serious responses. Yet it’s
enough to make Echo let out a sign of relief. Echo then pulled
himself together and put on a serious face, “Spec Ops. Move
out!” When the Spec Ops are
hurrying away, Lieutenant turned his face to his man, “you have
not failed me since the very first vow, and I expect you fight
side by side with me, to defeat the villainous Seerus. Knights,
move out!” The alpha and beta
squad also left after a courageous cheer. The clockworks are in
chaos. Yet the knights are on a gamble. The bet is their pride
and lives, yet the prize is to restore tranquility upon
       civilization. They regret nothing, fear
nothing. For that is their meanings and faith. Even that is the
slightest chance, the knights shall try. The strength of a
knights depends on one’s faith. What’s special about Spec Ops is
that they have faith stronger than
anyone. Only they can fulfill this task.
“Looks like Lieutenant stirred up enough mess to draw those
gremlins’ attentions. We’re pretty clear here.” Connor gazed off
into a distance, starring at the battle at East. He sees the
       knights swing back and forth,
dodging around. They just need to place a decoy, so Lieutenant
should avoid casualties. “Right, let’s go.” Echo ordered his
squad members. They jumped the fences and walked through a long
hallway, faced a little bit of
resistance but quickly took care of that. Now they have arrived
in a big room with three “big pulps”. “Big pulps” serve as
generators and defensive mechanisms in most gremlin facilities.
They can emit force barriers, status
pulps and energy balls. They can be deadly and beefy at the same
time. Having three big pulps side by side is not common. Echo
believes that this is the generator room. Seerus should be near
       this important room. In fact,
Seerus is right above them, in the command room. Partly
surprised by this infiltration and partly angered with these
unwelcomed guests. Seerus grunted, and a few gremlins are
unleashed. “Here we go.” Dallas whispered.
“Dallas and Eva hold them off, Connor lay down covers for me.
Let’s see what these big pulps can do.” Echo quickly worked out
a plan. He charged out alone at the left big pulp. A force
barrier is emitted, quiet but strong.
Echo quickly hid himself behind the shield but was still knocked
over. “Jeez these are no ordinary big pulps.” Echo complained as
he rolled aside, using the force to get up quickly. These
       movements allowed Echo to regain
balance in a split second. Echo charges at the big pulp once
more. “Duck!” A voice broke out from behind, it was from Connor.
Echo did not hesitate but do as Connor said. A second after a
few status pulps were shot and
scattered all around the big pulp, they flew over Echo’s head
and dropped behind. It kind of locked Echo in but he doesn’t
seem to be troubled. As most big pulp do such a thing, yet it
was not very wise of it. As the big pulp
is left vulnerable to the knights close to it. Echo layed a few
hits of his Divine Avenger into the big pulp. “Don’t seem
affected.” Echo stated, then repeated a few waves of attacks
until he manages to understand the big
pulp’s weakness and attack formula. Things are not looking good
though. Eva, Connor and Dallas are starting to get overwhelmed.
They started running around, doing hit and runs. Typical
       phenomenon when knights are
facing too many mobs at once. “Plan change, Dallas and I work on
big pulps. Eva and Connor just keep these gremlins off our
butts.” Echo shouted out as if he tried to break the noise in
the room. Echo held out his hand to
stop Dallas. A wall of force barrier was emitted from the big
pulp and vanished in front of them. Then Echo implied Dallas to
stick with him. They ran and slide on the ground to dodge the
       second defense: status pulps. Dallas
just stood there after the status pulps passed by, while Echo
ran in to get hits. A few seconds later a great sword cleaved
down into the big pulp, a golden beam of light shot into and
       penetrated the sky. The momentum
even shocked Echo a little bit. Dallas was “panting” after that
hit, watching the giant machine in front of him explodes. After
that Dallas focused on the middle one while Echo works on the
       right one.
A thwacker threw his hammer right at Eva. Connor ran out
and held up his shield, a solid metal hit on Connor’s shield.
“Thanks.” Eva said that while Connor is returning fire. After
       the appreciation was shown, Eva
turned around to shoot a few bullets at the scorchers. Connor
and Eva are covering each other’s back. A thwacker got too close
to Eva, Eva and Connor just switches positions and Connor kicked
       the thwacker in the face.
These two gunslingers are in sync, showing the gremlins what to
put on their “no-to-mess-with list”. Yet they are not optimistic
about the increasing amount of gremlins. In about 5 minutes two
       explosions happened. The
gremlins are shocked about the three broken machines. They’ve
completely stopped their movements. Echo and Dallas walked back
to group up with Connor and Eva. They all stayed on guard except
       Echo, he looked up
into the panels and stared at Seerus. In return Seerus jumped
out himself and ordered the gremlins to stay back. It is almost
as if Seerus said “I accept you challenge.”
Seerus slammed his homemade rocket hammer into the ground
as he jumped out, the impact was as big as the Sudaruska charge
attack. But Seerus seems so casual and it was performed with one
       hand. Dallas is
obviously unhappy about that. Seerus noticed that and sprinted
in front of him. It was too fast that Dallas didn’t get to react
before he slams down his hammer. Even Dallas is able to hold up
his shield. One slam from the
rocket hammer depleted his shield energy. It was too late for
Dallas to notice it is a three-hit combo. Echo sprinted and
booted Dallas out of the way, the ground Dallas was crouching on
       was slammed into broken bricks.
Seerus almost get a knight down in his very first serious
attack. Even it failed, Seerus didn’t stop to sign, he started
the second attack immediately. He appeared in front of Eva, and
jumped back when Eva tried to shoot
him. “Get the hell out of dodge!” Connor yelled. Eva then
realized that Seerus dropped a series of bombs under her. “Gosh
dar…” Without enough time to finish her sentence. Eva also can’t
fully escape from the bombs, she
leaned right and tried to shield herself as much as she can. Yet
the explosion still blew her away for one meter. “Are we really
fighting this mad man?” Connor asked, he knew the answer but he
just has to say it once
       more.
