Spiral Knights : Butter knife - Chapter 9
By: KaunLeon Date: July 11, 2014, 10:03 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
“Sir, we got a private message from the HQ for you.” A
knight’s report broke Echo’s sleep. “Thank you, you can go back
to duty now.” Echo thanked the knight with humble, three knights
       entered the tent after the
reporter is out of the tent. They saluted each other before
leaving. The three knights are party members of Echo’s team:
Dallas, Connor and Eva. They are waiting for Echo’s response.
“Everyone is equally eager to know
news from Lieutenant,” this idea came up to Echo while he is
reading the private message on his tab. In a few words HQ have
their order down, Echo lift his head a little to look at his
       fellow party members. “My knights,”
the leader finally spoke in a few, “Lieutenant is in need inside
the facility, and the HQ has finally given us our final mission,
details will be further elaborated on our way.” As he finishes
he lines he dismissed his knights.
After seeing them out of the tent, he turned around and started
packing his gears. With loads of gears and bags on their back,
they met at the safe gate where knights and the commander
stopped to grant them the final
wish. “May this mission be the end,” Noah said, and paused for a
while, “go now my man, go win glory and tranquil.” Then knights
saluted, with their finest wish and sincerest hope towards the
       Spec Ops. Four salutes were
returned from the Spec Ops. “We will. We ought to.” Then the
squad presents themselves to the final countdown.
“Our objective is to find Lieutenant, they’ve cracked an
opening to the facility. The spiral HQ has also received reports
about sparse patrolling gremlins, we just have to fight our way
in. The rest will be taken care by
the reinforcements.” Echo gave his party members a quick
briefing. They have been making haste the second they step out
of the safe gate. The elevator lowered itself to a busy place,
where the commander rushed to the
elevator as soon as he notices the Spec Ops has arrived. “It’s a
pleasure to receive your assistance, sir.” The commander, Spock,
said as he walks away. Spec Ops followed up, while Echo asks for
       updates and such. “Sir,
preparation has been completed before your arrival, we can
depart any minute now. Once you’re inside the facility, we’ll
declare war on different part of the facility to draw their
attention. Our best squad will act as a
special reinforcement. But sir, there is one thing. Your squad
is all alone when you reach at depth 3. The estimated location
for Alpha and Beta squad is updated to your tab.” Spec Ops
jotted down notes in their brains
while checking their tab, making sure they’ve received the map.
“No time to waste, we’re going in now. Don’t come if your squad
is not ready.” Echo threw this sentence down and walked away
       with his squad. “We’re the
Spec Ops,” Echo says while showing his tag to the door guard,
“we got approve to go in now, release the gate.” “Aye, aye sir.
Good luck, may god grant you strength.” The door guard said as
       the safe gate is made
       accessible.
And so Spec Ops has finally reached the facility. The
gremlins are clearly not happy about their traverse. A few
gremlins came forward for their “promotion”. “Out of my way!”
Dallas roared as he swings his Sudaruska,
knocking off all the gremlins in the frontal core. The gremlins
flipped and flipped until the force is over, but they are
knocked unconscious. And it is unlikely for them to awake. “Hey
Dallas you’re pretty pumped up.” Connor
joked, but it is the truth. “Yes my boy, are you ready to cover
my back?” Dallas asked. “As always,” Eva took over Connor’s
sentence. “Let’s do this.” Echo said. As they push deeper into
       the facility.
There is nothing behind the sand bags and most of the
armories are broken, it just looks like Detroit with groups of
gremlins wandering around. “What were behind the sand bags
should be turrets, Alpha and Beta
squad probably broke them.” Connor thinks out loud after his
observation through the scope. “Alpha and Beta squad probably
broke in too far to break their plan. Troops of gremlins are not
       patrolling without formation and
walk around freely.” Eva assumed. “Good thinking,” Echo agrees,
“this favors us to sneak past, wait for large gaps then move.”
“Do not engage, we don’t want to get ourselves into trouble
       before meeting up with
Lieutenant.” Dallas reminded his teammates. “Crawl along the
right sand bags. Connor and Eva keep a long out at the two
platforms on the two sides.” Echo ordered. After assigning
themselves into who will take which
side, Dallas and Echo crawled forward. About mid-way through Eva
spotted a gremlin walking up to the edge of her platform. That
gremlin is going to spot Dallas and Echo if she allows. Yet, it
would do no good to them if
they have to blast through two depths. “Throw something,
distract him.” Connor has his back to Eva’s platform but for
some reason he knows what Eva is worrying about. Eva followed
his suggestions and threw a rock,
the gremlin heard the noise and turned around to investigate.
“Thanks, that was close.” Eva thanked but received no response.
Connor is talkative when relaxed. Yet he is silence when
serious. Once Dallas and Echo made
it through the barricaded zone, they looked at each other. Echo
past an military hand gesture to signal Dallas and they took
different paths up to the two platforms. All they are trying to
do is to keep the two platforms
clear, so that Eva and Connor can pass through. They sneaked up
by moving from covers to covers, stealth eliminated the gremlin
up there and hide its body. As they don’t have a structure to
such fortress, it will take them
a good while before discovering some knights have sneaked in.
Eva and Connor saw Dallas and Echo’s action, so they started
moving towards the gate where a gremlin guard is sleeping next
to it. “The gremlin guard is
fast asleep.” Echo thought, and he implied to move. The sneak
past was easy but they knew that situation gets harsh when they
       venture deeper into the facility.
So far they have remained in a stealthy status, yet it
won’t take long until Seerus notices they’re sneaking in. Echo
has been guiding his team through the narrow valleys and the
obscure paths. “You seem to know
where you’re going.” Eva stated, with a little confused. Echo
gets what she concerns, “Alpha and Beta squad have caused enough
chaos to make the own facility in mess, we just need to follow
       these “defensive gaps”.”
They didn’t meet a whole lot of gremlins on their way too, which
proves that Echo really knows what he is doing. Eva still
doesn’t get it, “but there are gaps all around, how do you know
which direction or which exact path
we’re taking.” That was just a question more than disapproval.
Eva doesn’t have the most battlefield experience in the army, so
Echo doesn’t blame her. In fact he further explained “you see
       the headquarter lost
connection with Lieutenant while they’re sitting duck somewhere,
at once. That would be Lieutenant ordering his man destroying
all the communication devices.” Eva wanted to ask why but wasn’t
       given a chance to,
instead of that Echo continues “Seerus has put up heavy guard
around himself, thin but dense. It would be wise if Alpha and
Beta squad attacks Seerus in such sticky situation. So what
Lieutenant is doing is remain hidden
and hope for reinforcement.” “What reinforcements are there?”
       Eva asked. “Us.”
“So the “defensive gaps” should be more obvious as we
progress, thus we just have to follow a larger gap every each.”
Echo listened carefully while focusing on their paths, and then
       answered “that’s very smart of
you.” “There we should be close now.” Echo speaks as he points
at a camp that is very much hollowed. “No sign of living is our
lead for Lieutenant.” Connor finally spoke. That is then proved
       to be correct.
