Spiral Knights : Butter knife - Chapter 8
By: KaunLeon Date: July 1, 2014, 9:59 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
A few silent days have passed, alpha and beta squad
still fight side by side in the infernal facility of advance
technologies. The resistance from the gremlins side are great,
they built traps, rooms and stages specific for
the spiral knights. And they are not friendly. They are deadly,
narrow and breathe taking. Now the facility is already more than
just an assembly line, it has been a prison and also fight club.
       Fight clubs, are what gremlins
love. Even now in war, the strategy against knights is “set up a
stage, trap the knights, throw gremlins in.” But one does not
simply become a knight. Moreover, the knights sent in are best
of the best. Gremlins fear of the
knights’ skills and morality. They are making very good use of
being the host, lousy or clever, that’s a matter of perspective.
Gremlins even built contraptions that seem to be uneven to the
knights. But this is war, fair does
not exist in wars. That had greatly reduced the knights’ speed
       and even pinned them down.
The knights have pushed further down into the depths, but the
plan wasn’t going smoothly as expected. “The gremlins don’t know
what they are messing with.” Lieutenant left this comment and
       ordered his man to
push forward. In Lieutenant’s mind he knows exactly what have
the gremlins done: they are drawing power from the core
relentlessly. Thus deeper the knights venture, tougher the fight
       be. Soon the determination
Lieutenant has made before bestowed upon his mind again. “Now or
       never.”
Meanwhile at the front line, the knights have stuff cleaned up.
The Spec Ops is just resting waiting for requests from the
spiral order. Of course, not receiving anything from the alpha
and beta squad is worrying. The
Spec Ops is desperate to go back but stopped by Echo. Whenever
Dallas tries to let his impatient overcome himself, Echo stops.
But ain’t Echo worried either? He wishes to go back any sooner,
for he must go assist his
dear friend on the important mission. The boiled blood is slowly
decaying and vanishing into the chilling wind. Any possible
telegraph from the spiral orders would have penetrated the snow
and have Spec Ops move out
       immediately.
The alpha and beta squad did not send the spiral orders any
further updates for a reason. They are pinned down in the third
depth. They set up turrets, safe gate and camps at the mid
       point. They are temporarily safe
but are surrounded by gremlins. That is what Lieutenant told his
knights. “Those rats had us tricked here, they pin us down here,
baiting for more reinforcements from spiral orders.” “But why?
       How would that be beneficial
to gremlins?” A knight asked a question, which actually everyone
else wonders. “Don’t know yet, there are always something crazy
going on in their hand, something evil and bad.”
For the next day, Lieutenant has ordered his knights to stay on
guard but to remain hidden. He also told his knights to drop
anything heavy, keeping a swift body. The gremlins have always
kept an eye on the knights,
even they are tightly stuck. Lieutenant knew that, and he is
going to use that as his advantage. The knights spent valuable
time on building up the gremlins’ attention, rather than
fortifying the camp. There are two main
sides to the camp, two safe gates are set up at north and south.
Since the first day staying at this camp, the knights put sand
bags along the sides with crates in the middle. The gremlins
       finally decided to investigate. A
few gremlins wandered into the camp not knowing a dozen guns are
pointing at them. But “Hold,” Lieutenant said. The scopes of
guns are locked onto the few gremlins, but their fingers are
       away from the trigger. The
gremlins set foot on the camp but face no resistance, they also
see no signs of surviving knights. “The camp seems abandoned.
But since when.” The gremlins have their guard completely down,
go on ahead to check on
the knights’ “left out” gear. “Those gremlins are so advanced on
technology yet know so little about combat.” The knights
thought. And when they receive signals from Lieutenant: “Do it.”
       The gremlins suffered from their
mistakes. Silence is once again brought back to temporary camp
with sacrificing a few gremlin corpses. “This is where we start
working,” Lieutenant said, “Drop all your communication devices
       here, arm this place with
explosives. Recon knights, hack the communication devices the
gremlins carry. Shut down their computers, I just need time for
us to disappear. Think you can do that?” “That’ll be done in no
       time, sir.” A recon knight
answered with confidence. Lieutenant then walk towards the edge
and witness the gremlin camp not too far away with his
binocular. “All done, sir.” “Explosives are all set and ready to
       be detonated.” “Computers hacked,
but we only have a few minutes, ten minutes top.” Knights with
job assigned to them reported back. “Very well,” Lieutenant
replied, “we’ll move now, do not engage any gremlins.”
And so the knights left. Few hours later without receiving a
single reply from the gremlin spies, the war-master is getting
impatient. He decided to send out troops to investigate. Troops
       of gremlins lined up, marching
into “their own place”. They’ve always kept an eye out for any
knights, yet the knights are long gone. They made very sure the
camp is clear, then spread out to search and scavenge. “This is
       fishy,” they thought. A gremlin
came upon a desk and heard noise, a look under the table had him
froze, too scared to move. A charge is armed in front of him.
“Bip bip bip.” Time is running. “I am going to die.” He told
       himself, or rather he convinced
himself. The camp was lit on fire and exploded into a hell hole.
No gremlin was seen walking out of the camp again.
First let the knights escape, now let a whole troop die.
Lieutenant successfully pushed war-master into a corner, the
outrage one. The war-master is determined to crush every single
       knight with his hammer, and
demanded his army to spread all over the facility. “Orders have
been made.” Every gremlin is saying this, “I get a promotion if
I kill one knight.” Now every gremlin is on to the knights, even
       the engineers dream of seeing
one. They starve to hunt down knights, Lieutenant put his man
into greater danger. “But this may be our only chance…” The man
       signed.
