Spiral knights : Butter knife - Chapter 4
By: KaunLeon Date: October 6, 2013, 12:55 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
The wooden door was pushed open. A man of orange costume
poked his head out. He seems to be looking for
something. The man’s show up has lead to an gentle yet solid
voice. “And here comes Echo!” The tranquility of the
bar has been disturbed. The silence was replaced with cheers,
applauses and congratulations. All due to the young
hero, Echo. “Connor told me about your adventure.” The bartender
continued “good job my boy.” Echo smiled and
complained with a little joy. “That talker.” The bartender then
invited Echo to have a sit and offered a cup of free
vodka. Echo settled down while the people are still talking
loudly and proudly about Echo. If anyone asks Echo
what he thinks at the moment. He will just reply “Oh they’re
just drunk.” Echo spent a relaxing morning at the bar.
It is almost at noon and Echo mentioned that he has planned to
go to see Brinks with Connor. “The drunk man who
probably went to buy packets of onion rings eh?” The bartender
just spoke the truth. Another new guest have
arrived with onion rings in his arms. “Speaking of the drunk
devil.” Echo said. “Oi at least… I kept my promises.”
Connor explained with a mouth full of onion rings. After a
little joking around, they head for Brinks located in the
       heaven bazaar.
According to Brinks, the tokens they received at Royal Jelly
Palace seem to be valuables. Brinks offered to
trade useful materials or gears with them. Both refused but
asked Brinks for a favor. They were wondering if Brinks
can refine the gel they got from Royal Jelly into malleable
substances. “Sure, but why?” Echo and Connor can tell
Brinks is confused by the question mark on his forehead. “We’re
going to donate them to the guild for statues.”
Echo solved his wonder. They then give Brinks the tokens and the
gel needed for the request, and left.
Haven is a peaceful city, it is mainly consist of green patches
of grass and limestone-like rocks. There are gay
snipes all over the place, they really gave heaven some fine
touches. Here in bazaar, knights and strangers(heaven
native citizens) set up shops here, including the token trader
shop they’ve just visited, the weaponry and armory
shop which are run by strangers, accessories shop and an
alchemist shop. To the top of the bazaar is the arcade,
where elevators are built to allow access to the clockworks.
Barricades are also set up to prevent sieges. To right
of the bazaar is the main hub. The reason to that is because of
the auction house. Knights of all level will gather
there and trade, from common materials to rare recipes. Knights
that are not trading would also rest up around the
giant water fountain just south of the auction house. All sorts
of activities happen there. Lower rank knights would
request assist there, higher tier knights would team up and go
for tough fights. They would also exchange
information about certain depths. Even if a knight is not doing
anything in specific, most of them like to hand out
there and feel the vitality of haven. Areas around the auction
house are basically heart to the haven. “Lets go to
the auction house, I’m looking for Dallas.” Echo suggested. They
came to an agreement as Connor doesn’t have
anything to do at the moment. As expected, Dallas is hanging out
at the auction house. Echo approaches him
and greets. “Oh hello you two, having a nice day?” “What brought
you to me my friend?” Dallas is surprised yet
delighted to see an old friend. “Yes, what did the Lieutenant
say?” This question brought Connor, Dallas and
Echo into a serious conversation. “It’s too crowd to talk here,
meet me at guild hall at dawn. I still have some
businesses to do.” Dallas told them. They met as planned.
“They are coming,” Dallas said “they are growing stronger every
       second, provoking technologies that they
shall never handle nor understand,” he continued “We are losing
advantages, they seek fights and plunder,
roaming in the clockworks. They are aggressive, we don’t have
much time left.” “Great…… how much time left
then?” Connor asked. “Not much. Longest, 1 year. Shortest, 2
months.” Dallas wasn’t sure too, but he is sure
that the problem is right on their chests. “No, not with Seerus
leading the gremlins.” Echo explained. “And what say
the head quarter?” “Spiral orders set up squads, they’re going
to invade their arsenal. We’re just support squads
in case of emergency.” Dallas further explained the situation,
“and yes, Lieutenant is in the first squad.”
Time has been tense to higher tiers knights in the heaven. The
blacksmith and alchemist shop have been busy
as knights keen on upgrading their gears. Though lower tier
knights are unfamiliar to such phenomenon. Yet, they
seek no answer as such intel is secret among knights. Echo and
Connor spent almost all of their savings to get new
gears. Echo got him a chaos set and upgraded his silent
nightblade to acheron. Connor got himself some new guns
and shadow slicker set. A few weeks has then passed. Knights did
not just wait for their invasions. They have set
up front lines and resupply camps. Access to lower depths has
been restricted too. Other knights hunt for Basil the
recipe dealer. To hope for rare recipes, in order to craft
powerful weapons and armor. Echo, Connor and guildies in
       their guild also prepared.
A few weeks passed again and as Echo predicted. The gremlins
started the attack, but the knights are ready.
They fend off the first wave of attack successfully. The main
goal is not defeating the gremlins at the front lines, but
to gain time for the special squads to infiltrate the grand
arsenal and destroy the operation crimson hammer from
the inside. The operation is called “Pioneers.”
