Dais Clash

Name: Dais Clash
Race: Unicorn
Gender: Male
Age: Approximate equivalent of a 35-year-old human.
Physical Description: Dais is a blue unicorn with a blond mane
and tail, and green eyes. His horn is quite large, and he has a
few white freckles, but otherwise in appearance Dais is pretty
average. He doesn't worry too much about what others think of
him, but is admittedly quite proud of his cutie mark - a shining
white trefoil, representing perseverance.
Special Talent: Perseverance. He has an uncanny ability to keep
working on problems until he can resolve them.
Likes: arguing, giving speeches, politeness, his younger
brother, helping his friends, learning new things
Dislikes: ponies who in any way indicate they don't want to be
friends, bullying, violence
Strengths: Quick thinker, quite adaptable, long periods of
studying giving him a good general academic background
Weaknesses: Slow learner (although he can compensate with his
perseverance), argues too often/easily, prone to serious
depression
Fears: Rejection
Bio:
Dais was born into the notable Clash family in Manehatten.
Although the Clash family were well-known as sporty ponies, it
was apparent from a young age that Dais was not a naturally
gifted athlete. He wasn't terrible, but he certainly wasn't a
Clash. Most of his family - notably excluding his brother, who
excelled at spear-fighting - cared little for him after that.
Some time later, Dais convinced his parents to take him to
Canterlot to sit the test of Celestia's school for gifted
unicorns. He failed the test, however, by a mere two marks, much
to his frustration. He did meet a mare in Canterlot who saw his
application and suggest that he take up debating.
By this point Dais was enduring some serious teasing for having
no cutie mark. Dais found that his competitiveness and
confidence made him a decent debater, so he began arguing things
as much as he could. While this did buy him some limited success
and helped allay the teasing for a bit, it didn't do much for
his own self-esteem. Dejected that finally when he found
something he could do well, he still didn't have his cutie mark,
Dais was wallowing in some serious depression when it finally
happened. Dais decided not to give up despite everything, and in
doing so realized his special talent and earned his cutie mark -
in perseverance.
Although Dais was happy, he had few friends. He found comfort in
books, reading a little bit about everything. After he graduated
school, he began work at the Manehatten Public Library. At first
he was a junior worker, filing scrolls and doing odd jobs, but
as time went on and Dais gradually became more knowledgeable, he
was frequently promoted. Eventually he became the head of the
fiction division and, after some years, the chief librarian of
the whole library.
Dais did not stay in the job long, passing it on to somepony
whose actual talent was with books. Besides, Dais gradually grew
disillusioned with Manehatten, as many ponies who knew him from
school still judged him on the fact that his cutie mark wasn't
tied to any immediately clear profession or ability. As soon as
he found out there was a job in Ponyville for a mayoral
assistant, he jumped at the chance.
Typical duties for Dais might include writing speeches for the
mayor (his favorite), auditing tax returns, organizing town
meetings, analyzing policies and other boring stuff the mayor
doesn't want to do. He does have a fair amount of savings and a
fine home, but he tends to squander much of his wealth pursuing
all of his many hobbies and interests. He is able to juggle many
different things at once without being too stressed.
Dais wants to learn everything about everything, or at least to
get as close to that goal as possible. One day, he hopes to be
elected mayor of Ponyville himself.
Although he tries to be friendly, his naturally argumentative
nature means that he doesn't have too many friends.
Extra Details:
Motivated strongly by competition and winning. Even though he
can never out-compete a pony on their special talent (no matter
how much he perseveres) he can and does try his utmost.
Has a small pet fish called Sharkie.
