Octavia frowned at Vinyl's initial response, although she fully
expected that kind of turnabout from the DJ. She glared at her
for a moment, indicating that her seriousness was not to be
mistaken or turned into a light-hearted thing. "This is serious,
Vinyl, and just for that, I'm going to ask you two questions
now. "First, do you regret it?"
A simple enough question... Octavia was sure that Vinyl wouldn't
regret such a thing, but she would at least like to hear her
side of things, as well as anything else the DJ might interject
within her statement. If she doesn't trip over her words, that
is. While her outward appearance remained deadly serious,
Octavia couldn't help but grin inwardly at Vinyl's awkwardness.
The idea came as a shock, really... Vinyl had much more
experience with relationships than Octavia ever had, so one
would imagine that she would be used to this sort of thing. Then
again, from Vinyl's perspective, there was much more at stake
       than Octavia initially realized.

Vinyl just chuckled a little bit after Octavia admonished Vinyl
for making a joke, feeling a little bit better about the
situation after deflecting some of the tension with a joke.
Though after Octavia asked her question of if Vinyl regretted
anything, she froze in place as she clammed up, not having been
prepared to answer that question just yet. She stammered for a
few moments, not really getting anything out other than a few
"I..."s and some "uhhhh"s as she tried to figure out the best
way to respond to the question. "I, uh... Haven't given you that
impression, have I?" she finally said when her mind and mouth
decided they wanted to cooperate. "'Cause... I mean, I like you,
right? I really like being around you, you're a lot more fun
than you seem, you're... really pretty..." she mumbled,
realizing what she was saying only as it was coming out of her
mouth. She froze for another few seconds before she cleared her
throat, quickly continuing with, "I guess... the point is...
       N-no, I don't... That's... That's a good thing, right? I hope?
You don't regret it, do you...?"

Octavia simply stared at Vinyl as she chuckled to herself, her
expression remaining serious and straight as an arrow as the DJ
fumbled through her words. Not even a hint of amusement crossed
her features, even when Vinyl was going through her lists of
reasons... Granted, the mare was practically burning up with all
of her compliments, but Octavia kept it hidden, at least for the
moment. But one particular comment struck a rather odd chord
with her... "A lot more fun than I seem? What is that supposed
to mean?" Octavia edged closer, ignoring Vinyl's intermittent
questions for the moment. "Question two," she continued, not
even giving Vinyl the chance to recover, furrowing her brows in
       thought once more.
What she did next might come rather surprising... While Octavia
had Vinyl's full, undivided attention, and undoubtedly had her
on the ropes, the cellist moved forward and planted a kiss right
on Vinyl's muzzle. Up until now, the DJ had given her small
tokens of affection, but this time, Octavia made the move,
making it much more prominent and longer lasting. After a few
moments, the mare finally pulled away, a small smile adorning
her lips. "Do you regret it?" Once again, a simple enough
question... It was the same, yet different at the same time
considering its context. This time, it was Octavia who blushed
       and stood nervously.

"I don't... Well, I didn't mean..." Vinyl stumbled along after
Octavia asked what she'd meant by something that had been said,
hoping she hadn't messed anything up by not thinking about her
words. To her slight surprise, though, Octavia didn't dwell on
that--instead, she almost immediately went on to her second
question. A little strange, but okay... Almost sweating from how
uncomfortable the situation was, Vinyl shifted in her seat, only
to freeze yet again when she noticed Octavia inching closer...
and closer... and closer... Her breath caught in her throat as
she watched Octavia close the distance between them, wondering
for a moment if this was some cruel joke she was playing.
Nope. Octavia kept moving closer until, finally, she locked her
lips with Vinyl's. Her ears fluttered a little bit at the soft
sensation of their lips contacting each other, her eyes drooping
shut as she gave into the kiss, leaning forward in bliss. Just
as she began lifting a hoof to the side of Octavia's head,
however, the cellist pulled away, leaving Vinyl sitting in place
in a somewhat awkward position: leaning forward with her hoof
raised, her eyes closed, and her cheeks ablaze. As she lowered
her hoof and leaned back to straighten herself out a little bit,
Vinyl gave a quiet, throaty hum before giggling, a giddy sound
accompanied by a shiver from the mare. "Now I've gotta wonder
how long you've been waiting to do that..." Vinyl said with a
grin as she opened her eyes to look at Octavia, her tongue
briefly moving out of her mouth to run along her own lips. "But
do I regret it? Hmm..." She tapped her hoof on her chin for a
moment as she eyed Octavia up and down, only to then lean
forward a little bit once more. "I dunno. I think I need another
taste before I decide," she said coyly, grin spreading on her
lips again as she reached forward, pulling Octavia forward again
and meeting her halfway for another kiss.

"How long have *I* wanted to do that, you ask?" chirped the
mare, lowering her gaze to match Vinyl, who now seemed to be
experiencing a myriad of different expressions. Octavia
particularly enjoyed the DJ's reaction, giggling quietly in
response as she attempted to regain her own faculties. "My,
whatever do you mean?" Octavia dodged the question with a smirk,
knowing full well that her little deflection wouldn't stand up
to Vinyl's curiosity. Truth was, she had been playing that exact
same scene in her head for a long time, possibly just as long as
Vinyl had wanted to pop that question. It was a giant relief,
something that could be best represented by a heavy, yet
rejuvinating sigh; a great burden who's wieght now completely
vanished from her shoulders. To commit to such an act and pull
through with them both giddy from laughter was one of the better
       endings Octavia had imagined.
The mare's thoughts were suddenly interrupted as Vinyl pulled
her close, no doubt for a second kiss if her previous statement
was anything to go by. Octavia offered no resistance, however,
she scooped up a half-peeled potato and stuck it in Vinyl's
mouth with a rather elated giggle. She might be a huge
romantic... But Octavia was an even bigger tease. "Now now,
Vinyl. You shouldn't spoil your breakfast with desert.~ Besides,
if we were to continue like this, I don't think anything would
get done in a timely manner at all. Think of it as a fine wine,'
she said with a wink, now turning to help Vinyl peel the
       potatoes.

Fully expecting to lean in and meet Octavia's lips with hers
once again, Vinyl continued on her way to fulfill her quest.
What she was met with, however, was a very strange sensation: a
cold, almost slimy object was stuck into Vinyl's mouth in place
of the warm, soft kiss she'd been expecting to find. Her eyes
fluttered open in surprise, frozen for a moment with her hoof
still around the back of Octavia's neck, before the mare's words
registered in her brain and she had to deflate a little bit with
a disappointed sigh. "Yeah, I guess you're right," she conceded,
taking a moment to rub her own lips together as she focused on
the slight tingling sensation there from the first kiss.
"Sheesh. Four in the morning. We're gonna be zombies come the
end of the day. 'Least there won't be any of this," she said
lightheartedly, leaning over so she could try and nip playfully
at Octavia's ear, even reaching a hoof over to pull the mare to
her so she could achieve her goal. "By the way, you didn't
answer me when I asked how long you'd been wanting to do that,
'Tavi," she said after returning to her original position, idly
peeling potatoes as she spoke. "Lemme guess, ever since you
       first saw me, right?"

"Four in the morning?" Octavia craned her head to look at the
time for herself, keeping her hooves busy with the preparations.
"Sheesh is right. I hope you know that this is your fault,
Vinyl. Remind me why we're making breakfast from scratch at four
in the morning instead of- oh, I don't know- getting a bowl of
cereal and some toast? That would seem much more practical...
Then again, nothing seems practical at four in the morning. At
least I'm off for the next couple weeks until recitals pick up
again." The cellist tapered off, returning to her work as the DJ
nipped at her ear. With the exception lightly swatting Vinyl
with her tail, the mare didn't seem to react to it all that
       much.
And there's that question again... Octavia knew she couldn't
keep dodging it, but the DJ's last statement earned a soft,
sarcastic laugh from the mare. "Dear Vinyl. I hate your stinkin'
guts. You make me vomit. You are the scum between my soles.
Love, 'Tavi." The mare threw a backwards glance at Vinyl as she
quoted a rather famous line from an old comedy, hoping she would
catch the reference, or even better, the implication she was
providing. In the film, a school-aged filly was writing a letter
to his crush, reciting the aforementioned statement in front of
his two friends. What he actually wrote, however, read:
       I can't live without you...
       Really...
       I'm not kidding.
Octavia watched her curiously for a moment before busying
herself once more, knowing that if Vinyl hadn't seen the film,
things were fixing to get much more awkward. "I can explain the
reference if you don't get it... Anyways..." She cleared her
throat, turning around to fetch the strainer from one of the
bottom drawers. "You know as well as I do that we both drove
each other crazy when we first met. You thought I was a pompous
dork, and I thought you were a crude drunk. Our music clashed.
Our lifestyles clashed. WE clashed on several occasions. I don't
think I need to bring up that time with the rolling pin and the
TV again..." Octavia scoffed, now washing the potatoes that were
already stripped. "We were constantly looking for ways to get
revenge on one another, and I even considered moving back to
Canterlot... But then you did something that piqued my
interest." The mare's violet eyes darted over Vinyl's features
again as she reminisced, earning a soft smile.
"You were experimenting with those terrible synthetic symphony
sounds one night... I hated it so much that I offered to record
the sounds for you. We ended up working together, composing what
you might say our first collaboration, which were- oh how did
you say it- 'smashing'? Anyways... I started to attend some of
your performances to see how the track sounded, and you started
attending mine in return. We began to see past our differences
and become friends. It was sometime between that and when I
declined my invitation to return home to Canterlot that I've
wanted to outright kiss you..." Octavia paused, turning around
once more to retrieve the grater from the same drawer. "I bet
you didn't know that one, did you... I turned down a free pass
home just to stay with you. So... the time between that moment
and now... That's how long I've been waiting. There's your
answer." The mare returned to the counter, proceeding to grate
down chunks of potatoes into small slivers. "Can you turn on the
stove for me, dear? We'll almost have this ready by the time it
       heats up."
