       Re: Play by Play

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Blossom followed Bastion all the way home, also falling silent
as they walked. There was no snapping him out of this; nothing
that she could do to change his attitude about the current
situation, and that in turn, made her mood take a turn for the
worse as well. She followed behind him, sighing quietly to
herself every few seconds as the pit in her stomach slowly grew,
knowing that if she just conformed to his wishes of going to
finish the play without him that he might have felt better, but
she wouldn't. The ending wouldn't have been as exhilarating if
she had only herself to share it with. Part of the fun of going
to see a play was talking about it afterwards, and if she was
the only one who knew about it among her little circle, there
was simply no point in going to see it. Still, if it would make
him happy, she could put up with her own discomfort.
She thought about this the entire way back, thinking that if
there was some way to cheer him up, it would be letting him have
things the way he wanted. They entered the barracks, and he made
a line straight for the bunk, since they wouldn't be sparring
today after all. Looks like another thing that she would have to
do all by herself; she was not about to miss out on her routine,
with or without her sparring partner. As he fell onto his bunk,
she walked up next to him, looking at the back of his head for a
while before whispering, "If it will make you feel better,
Bastille, I will go back to see this play the next chance we
get. You can come with me if you feel like it, but I'm not going
with anypony else but you." She reached over and patted his
shoulder, rubbing it slightly before meandering in a lethargic
fashion over to the training area, not exactly thrilled that she
would be doing this herself, but it was something that had to be
done. Lining herself up, she gave the heavy bag a good kick, and
then another, her grunts of exertion echoing quietly in the
       lonely room.

As Bastion laid in his bunk, trying his hardest to fall asleep
and get on to the next day, he heard Blossom speak up from
behind him. At first, he was a little reluctant to hear what she
had to say, but his ears soon perked when she said she'd agree
to going to see the play again. Immediately, he began to feel
hopeful again, and his melancholy lifted as he felt like there
was finally a way to make things right. He'd... have to suck it
up and actually stay awake this time, but that shouldn't be too
hard with some coffee or something like that. Who knows, maybe
like she said, there was something in the second half that could
keep his interest. Regardless, he had reason to cheer up a
little bit now... But now he had to try and reassure her
       instead.
Rolling back out of bed, Bastion followed Blossom into the
training area, watching her kick the bag a couple of times
before stepping forward and into her line of sight, before
gently placing a hoof on her shoulder. "Thanks, Blossom. I know
you must think I'm acting like a baby right now, but... I don't
know. You're probably right. I just felt horrible for... being
inconsiderate to you like that. But thank you. I'll go with you
again sometime soon, and I'll make sure to have a nap and some
coffee before we go next time," he said, finally smiling to her
before reaching forward to hug her. "Anyway," he continued after
a few moments of the embrace, pulling away as he stretched some
of his limbs. "I believe there was a spar that a couple of
       ponies were supposed to have?"

Trying her best to focus on how well she kicked, she gave the
heavy bad her best for a few minutes, kick after kick, trying to
hit the bag as it swung back towards her for a more difficult
target. Of course, she wouldn't have to time it like this if
Bastion was there to hold it for her. His weight alone made the
heavy bag difficult to hit hard when he braced it for her. She
idly wondered if he was going to be able to sleep tonight, but
her question was answered as soon as he stepped in front of her,
setting one of his large hooves on her shoulder and saying that
he would be coming with her to the play again. Even despite his
promises, she was sure that he would probably be just as
interested in it as he was then, but still, it was the thought
       that counted.
He reached forward and gave her a hug, which she accepted
without too much struggling. In fact, it was somewhat
comforting, and with them being the only ones there, she didn't
really mind it. She had hugged him before, and she would hug him
again; they were comrades after all. When he pulled away and
started stretching, mentioning that there were a couple of
ponies that still needed to spar, she grinned and started to
stretch as well, trotting a little in place to loosen up as she
readied herself, "There's the Bastille that I know. Just do me
une faveur: don't make this an easy win for me, last thing I
need is to be bored~." After her little taunt, she went to a
clear area with firm mats on the floor, circling along the
outside opposite of him. When they were ready, she said, "If you
are ready garçon. Trois... deux... un... ALLEZ!" At her signal,
she started to circle a little faster, getting closer before
darting around his side, attempting to get at him from any side
       that wasn't his front.

"And don't try to lose too quickly," Bastion quipped back as he
followed Blossom over to the area with the mats and the things.
He stretched a little more before taking on a ready stance and
staring her down as she gave the count to begin. However, as
Blossom began to circle around to his side, Bastion only watched
her as she moved, not bothering to turn to meet her advance
towards his flank. Instead, he just rooted himself in place,
waiting to see what it was she'd try and do.

After circling around to his side, Blossom decided that the best
course of action would be to try to upset his center of gravity
and take him to the ground. As long as he was standing upright
like this, and rooted in place like this, it would be difficult
to even get through him--there was a reason he carried such a
large shield after all. It was weird how he was just standing
there like this, letting her have the first go. He probably knew
by now that she relied on her speed, while he relied on his
immovable mass. Nevertheless, she took her opportunity at a
first strike and ran her shoulder into his side, trying to sweep
his legs out from underneath him with her front legs as she
       threw herself at him.

Bastion took the full brunt of her shoulder bash against his
side, only grunting slightly at the sudden force as he shifted
his weight to keep himself upright. She nearly got him by
pulling his front legs out from underneath him, but by spreading
his stance through his back legs a bit, he was able to help keep
himself upright. With this widened stance, he was able to place
one of his back legs on the opposite side of hers, so that he
could try and trip her up when he pushed his weight against her
when he'd placed his hoof there.

Well, it was worth a shot, but he was as stoic as could be
expected from him. He managed to trip her up too, pushing
himself into her so that she would stumble over the leg that
managed to reach past her. Knowing she was going down, she
decided to commit to the fact that she was falling, pulling her
legs up against her chest and using the momentum from the fall
to roll sideways, springing back up onto her hooves to go at him
once more. His stance was a little wider this time around, which
meant his center of gravity couldn't be shifted much more, but
if she managed to get one of his legs and pull, he might
overstretch himself and go to the ground, or break his stance
and walk with her. So as she rushed back at him, she reached to
grab one of his front legs, in order to pull it up and away from
       him.

Bastion grinned a little triumphantly as Blossom fell over on
her side and rolled away from him. Of course, she then continued
using the speed she was infamous for and rushed him once more,
leaving him very little time to follow up on his 'attack'.
Instead, he could only watch and wait to see what she did, which
was apparently trying to pull his leg out of its socket.
Unfortunately, this meant he had to break his stance or fall
down, and him falling down against somepony like Blossom
wouldn't exactly work in his favor... So, deciding to take the
lesser of two evils, Bastion stumbled forward a little bit so as
to keep himself upright, before chuckling at her and saying, "If
you wanted to hold my hoof, all you had to do was ask, Salmon,"
he told her, shortly before taking a risk to try and turn
quickly as he rose to his back hooves, in an attempt to try and
bring her up to a similar position with the hold she had on his
       hoof.

An amused "hmph" could be heard as Bastion quipped about her
holding his hoof, thinking about how silly he could be during
these spars before letting out a little bit of a startled "woah"
as he started to rise up on his back legs, she felt herself
being pulled upwards with him, only her grip on his leg keeping
her in place. If she held onto his leg, she would practically be
held up in the air, and if she let go, he'd have time to drop
down on all fours again, unless she went all in and pressed the
attack while she had it. That would have to be what she did."Why
hold your hoof, Bastille..." she began, rising up a little bit
with him, waiting for a moment when he had risen enough up off
of the ground, "... when I can have you on your back!" she
finished as she let go of his hoof to drop on all fours before
leaping forward at his chest as he stood on his back legs,
hoping to tackle him to the ground and land with her on top of
       him.

As Bastion stood up with her on their back hooves like this, he
ran through a list of possible scenarios that could happen.
Blossom could try knocking him off balance to either side, or
she could try trying to push him down from where she was.. But
he knew she wouldn't do that. Not when they both knew physical
strength was on his side. He was really more just toying with
her at this point--from here, he could wrap his other hoof
around her before trying to bring them to the ground in some
direction, but he more wanted to poke fun a little bit of fun at
her. Of course she didn't really see eye to eye as him, though.
When she dropped to her hooves, he could see what was coming,
but he was nowhere near fast enough to prevent it from
happening. He was barely able to lower himself at all before she
threw all of her weight into him and sent him back onto the
ground, eliciting a loud grunt from him at the impact on the
       floor.
He grumbled a little bit at her as he looked up at her, mind
freezing for a brief moment at the sight before remembering
himself, and putting himself back in gear. He wasn't in the best
of positions like this, with her straddling him like she was
now--if they were trading blows in this match, she could easily
start to win. However, he still had his size to his advantage.
After bending his back legs and bringing his hooves as close to
his body as possible, he bucked his hips up to try and knock her
forward and off-balance. If he succeeded, he'd follow up with
pushing her off to the side and trading positions with her,
making sure to keep her pinned down by resting a front leg
across her chest, and propping himself up with his other three
hooves. If he didn't manage to succeed in trading spots with her
however, he'd try and distance himself between them a little bit
and root himself in place again.
