Blossom listened to Bastion as they walked, nodding along as he
listed off the places that he enjoyed walking around and just
thinking. The more he talked about it though, the more she
noticed just how much time she spent either in the castle or in
the barracks. Quite a few of these places that he is listing are
places that she has never been to, or have only seen in passing
while on the occasional patrol, except for, as Bastion pointed
out, the park, which they had patrolled through once. Perhaps
she should spend her time off wandering around Canterlot more
and see what it has to offer. Of course, she doubted that it
could offer as much as a place like Prance could for her, given
that most of the residents here didn't speak her native
language, nor did they have many of the delicacies that she used
       to enjoy.
"I'm not sure if I could say I have a favourite place yet..."
she began, thinking to herself and wracking her brain for any
particularly stirring locations, "though I guess there is the
fountain at the centre of town with the statue. That was always
nice to look at." As they continued she idly mused along, "...
nothing much like Prance though, that's for sure. What I
wouldn't give to find a good chocolaterie or boulangerie..."
just the thought of Prench delicacies made her a little
homesick, perhaps she could write to her mother to send her a
care package with proper chocolates, and other pastries.

"Ah yeah, that's right..." Bastion murmured in recollection as
Blossom mentioned not having a favorite place, as well as the
fountain in town. She did spend all of her time around her job
in some way. What a workaholic. But she had a lot of success to
live up to or something like that though. He just wished she
didn't spend all of her time thinking about work. It just wasn't
healthy... However, he grinned a little bit when she said those
two words in her native language, appreciating for a moment how
it sounded. He always enjoyed listening to her accent, and when
she actually started saying Prench words... well, it was
something like icing on the cake.
"Not sure what boulangerie is," he responded, the word sounding
more like boo-lingerie coming from him. "But 'chocolaterie'
sounds good. Unless it's... some weird chocolate delicacy that
has some really strange ingredients in it. Then maybe not.
Regardless, we need to get you out more. There's lots of cool
stuff to find in this city if you take the time. Who knows, you
may even find a spot you like that you could take a stallion
someday, whenever that may be," he teased, turning the corner to
the street Maya's was on. "Maybe when you're done trying to show
       up all the other guards."

The pink unicorn smirked as Bastion attempted to guess what a
chocolaterie and a boulangerie were. Of course, his perceived
definition of the words were quite off from what they actually
were, but she couldn't fault him on that since he probably would
not take the time to learn the language. She did enjoy when he
tried though, it meant that he had at least some interest, "Heh,
not quite, Bastille. They are both places that make particular
delicacies, a chocolate shop and a... hmmm... baque-eh-rie?
Where one can get a baguette or bread. Prench chocolates are a
particular favourite of mine, but once you've had one, let alone
spent your childhood receiving them, ordinary chocolates just
don't suffice anymore as they are inferior."
She furrowed her brow as he mentioned that she might find a
place where she could take a stallion one day. It was not
something that she really concerned herself over these days, as
she concerned herself first and foremost with her duty to the
princess. Unfortunately, the work that went into making sure
that she did her job well meant that the only ponies she knew
well were Bastion and a few other guards she worked with. "I
cannot help what comes natural," she responded to his last
statement humorously, "perhaps if the other guards show the
same passion in our duty as we do, then perhaps I wouldn't have
such an easy a time doing so." They soon approached the outdoor
cafe, the two of them walking up to the receiver, Blossom
greeting her with a "Bon après-midi!" The receiver nodded in
return to the greeting before turning to Bastion, "Table for
       two?"

Bastion only chuckled to Blossom's statement about her talent
coming natural, his head shaking slowly. "And I'm sure the other
guards would ask you to at least give them a chance. Even if
they would still get stomped by you." He returned his attention
forward after that, then upon reaching Maya's, he waved a little
bit to the receiver before nodding once to him. "Yep, same spot
as usual, if you please," he responded before following the
receiver to their table and sitting down.
After being asked what they wanted to drink, Bastion said "pink
lemonade" before looking over to Blossom for her order. Bastion
then leaned back in his chair and sniffed idly as he glanced
around, taking in the familiar sights of the awning overhead,
its surface almost entirely decorated by vines and flowers, with
similar decorations littered elsewhere throughout the little
outdoor cafe. Things only got better at night when they brought
out the fireflies to use as light, but since it was still in the
afternoon, they had to do without that for now. "From the way
you talk about Prance, it makes it seem like everything
Canterlot has to offer is mediocre at best, and Canterlot has
some of the best stuff I've ever experienced in my life. Only
makes me wonder what it's like over there in that home city of
yours. Maybe next time we go on leave, you can show me around
       there? What do you say?"

Blossom followed Bastion to their usual spot at Maya's, a corner
table near the back of the cafe. Pulling out her own chair
before sitting down, the pink mare graciously took the menu that
was handed to her, looking it over before answering the server's
question of what they wanted to drink, "I would like orange
juice mixed with carbonated water, s'il vous plait." Nothing
alcoholic for now, it was still too early for that. As they
waited for their drinks, Blossom also took the opportunity to
look around the cafe. It was a quaint little place, with enough
charm to even rival some of her favourite Prench cafes, though
its real charm lies in the evening hours. If there was one thing
this place was notable for, it was its atmospheric dining at
       that time.
She was pulled from her own thinking when Bastion mentioned that
Prance seemed to be quite superior to Canterlot, to which she
nodded and said, "Indeed, there are many things that Prance has
that I have yet to see in Canterlot, though don't take that as
me looking at it through rose-tinted spectacles; Canterlot is a
beautiful place, I'm just more used to life in Prance, and I
find myself comparing things to my life back there." She arched
an eyebrow challengingly as he mentioned that he would her to
show him around Prance during their next leave of absence,
saying with a smile, "It will take more than one leave for me to
show you what all it has to offer, but oui, I think we could do
that. It would be easy enough to make arrangements to stay in my
childhood home, I believe we have a guest room open still." She
narrowed her eyes quizzically at him before asking, "... how
much Prench do you know? Not many ponies there speak
       Equestrian."

Bastion perked his ears up a little bit when Blossom began
talking about Prance taking more than one leave to show him
everything there, making him wonder for a moment just how much
there was in that city of hers. Well, at least she was okay with
the idea of him going to Prance with her, especially to the
point of her suggesting he be able to stay in her childhood home
as well. Better than having to spend bits on an expensive hotel,
he supposed. Then, Blossom asked about his Prench, earning a
raised brow from him as he adjusted himself in his seat.
"Pretty sure I've mentioned this before, but I don't know
anything, really. I know 's'il vous plait' is 'please', roughly,
and 'oui' is 'yes', and 'ne me touche pas' is 'don't touch me',
but... well, that's about it. I think you've told me what a
couple others are before, but I don't really remember what they
are. But if you're there, things wouldn't be too bad, would
they? I'd probably just have to awkwardly sit there or something
when somepony else comes up to you and starts conversing with
you. Or vice versa. Plus I'd have to be oblivious when whoever
else lives at your childhood home starts talking about me
without me knowing," he said with only a hint of humor in his
voice. "Your mother, I'm assuming? And your father's retired by
       now, isn't he?"

Gale scratched her head as he started to list off the few things
he knew in Prench, and in the time that he explained what he
knew, the waitress came back with their beverages, and making
sure to thank her before taking a little drink. The orange juice
would normally have been quite strong for her, but when the club
soda was added to it, it became somewhat more bearable as the
overly sweet drink was balanced by a bitter one. "Well... your
pronunciation is okay. You'd probably need to know a few more
phrases than that. At least the basics anyway. I can't follow
you around and be your mouthpiece everywhere now, can I?" After
she said that, the waitress came back to their table, ready to
take their order. Blossom looked up and said, "Your potato leek
soup, si'l vous plait," again with the usual word in Prench.
After she took Bastion's order and left the table, she answered
his second question, "Well, my mother mostly, yes," at the
mention of her father, she licked her lips before saying, "as
for -him-, if he is still as tenacious as he insists that he was
back when he was my age, then he would not have retired yet. He
might not be a guard anymore, but I could definitely see him as
some sort of drill sergeant, or maybe a military advisor. It
wouldn't be like him to just... retire." After a little silence,
she piped up again, "But if you are certain of this, I will
include it in my next letter. I'm sure father would love to meet
       my comrade-in-arms."

Bastion shrugged a little bit after Blossom said that she
couldn't be his mouthpiece everywhere and inhaled as if to
respond, before looking over as their waitress came back around
to take their order. He offered her a friendly smile as Blossom
ordered, then said he wanted a loaded baked potato when Blossom
was done. He gave her a nod of acknowledgement when she turned
to walk away before returning his attention to Blossom as she
went on to talk about whoever was back at home waiting for her.
His eyes moved briefly to her lips when she ran her tongue
across them, his gaze unfocusing for just a moment before he
realized she was still talking, then chuckled a little bit at
her description of her father, still never tiring of hearing
about somepony who just sounded so... heroic.
"Yeah, sure, why not? I took holiday leave to see my
grandparents, so I'm sure they'd understand if I chose to go to
Prance next leave. Just as long as I send them pictures. Anyway,
I'd love to meet your father as well. I've always thought he
sounded like somepony to admire every time you spoke about him,
and maybe I can learn a few things from him while I'm there. I'm
sure he's got so many stories to tell. As for you being my
mouthpiece while I'm there, I wouldn't mind it. I'm not really
sure yet if I'd be comfortable wandering around Prance without
you somewhere nearby anyway. Not somewhere I want to get lost,
or swindled, or something like that. But I'm curious, what have
you told your father about your comrade-in-arms? What does he
       think about me, exactly?"

Blossom smiled as Bastion mentioned that her father probably had
stories to tell, "Oh Bastille, you do not know the half of it.
He would talk your ear off about all the missions he has been
on, all the things that he did while he was on patrol on the
borders of Equestria, and how he personally met many other
storied heroes of his time and shared a package of rations with
them, and if you let him, he would go for the entire day." A
little throaty chuckle escaped her as she added, "... that proud
       old crow."
When he asked about what she had told her father about Bastion,
and what he thought of her, Blossom tapped a hoof to her chin as
she started to remember back, "Well, most of his first
impressions of you probably came from back in Basic when I would
send letters home every day about how exciting it was to finally
be following his hoofsteps. I mentioned you several times in how
we would both work to control the tide of battle by ourselves,
and how we worked so well together. Do you know what he sent
back to me?" She smirked at Bastion before answering herself,
"'Je vous envie, ma petite fleur. You are lucky to find such a
comrade worthy of your standards as soon as you did'. Sooo
judging from that, I think he likes you. Did you ever right home
to your grand-mère et grand-père about moi?"

Bastion watched with almost childlike, wide-eyed wonder as
Blossom talked about what she said about Bastion to her father,
before his expression eventually widened into a grin as she once
more began speaking in Prench, just listening to her speak
making him inexplicably happy and wanting to hear more as it
always did. Plus, it seemed Blossom's dad really liked him,
which for somepony who was apparently held in such high
standards in the Equestrian Military... Well, it was mind
boggling, but it made him feel giddy. Then, after Blossom asked
if he wrote home to his grandparents about her he nodded once,
smile still spread across his lips thanks to the words she said
       in her native language.
"Mmhm. I didn't write home quite as often as you did--maybe
every week or so--but of course I mentioned you to them. I mean,
my career wouldn't be the same if we hadn't met, after all.
Anyway, my grandmother, being the crazy old bat she is, wrote
back the next letter saying she was glad I finally found
somepony, and asked when the wedding was," he said, rolling his
eyes. "As for my grandfather, he said he was proud of me, that I
was making connections and friendships so soon, and said that
you sounded like a fine partner in arms. So obviously, both of
       them like you already."
A few moments later, the waitress came back with their food and
Bastion nodded to her once more with another friendly smile
before looking to the food placed in front of him. "Been a while
since I've had a potato that looked this good. Oh yeah, we
should probably figure out whose turn it is to pay this time,
shouldn't we?" he asked, shortly before digging into the potato
       before him.
