Re: Time at the Tavern

"Hmm... I dunno..." Darrus replied with a playful tone of
uncertainty at the suggestion of a pet eagle, "you're making all
kinds of crazy assumption with that one I think. Pretty wacky
stretch of the imagination of you ask me. Nope, clearly its just
a gryphon only gym and the name was actually misspelled. In
truth, its called the 'Dunkin' Eagle, and its where they do
nothing but play indoor basketball all day." At the revelation
if when he would have a chance to try the cider he wanted,
Darrus gave a small groan of disappointment.
"Late Fall? Aww... I might as well move into this town if I'll
be hanging around for that long..." Keeping his eyes on the mug
hed drained earlier as the side of his mouth contorted to match
how he felt, the stallion kept his ears turned towards the mare
as she continued, him then shrugging at the mention of clubs
with a sigh. "Eh... They never let me into those kinds of places
for some reason. Was never much of a bowler either, but, since
ill be around I may as well give it another try. I don't know
where the bowling alley is though, so that means I'll need
somepony to show it to me sometime. And that somepony would also
of course then need to play a game with me." He said, his
friendly smile making it clear he was extending an invitation
before he moved on to the subject of the forest near the town.
"Yeah, I spoke to another mare outside about the Eveefree a
little bit earlier. I'm kind of considering taking a short trip
out there myself to go exploring or some such. Course, I should
probably wait till my wings are back at a hundred percent
first." Darrus, now distracted by a thought over what the time
of day was, paused for a moment before speaking up again. "A bed
would sure help with that, and unless I lost my ability to read
while on my way here, I believe this Guiding Light of yours is
an inn as well as a tavern?"

"Well there are just so many griffins in Ponyville after all."
Lamplight says, growing more laid back now that it's become
apparent Darrus wasn't really here to cause trouble. "I'm sure
you could find a nice apartment if you're going to be here so
long." The orange mare teases, giving Darrus a grin. "As for
bowling, I've only been there a few times myself." She says, not
entirely sure if the pegasus' implied invitation was an attempt
at asking for a date, or merely being friendly. "I suppose I
could show you the way tomorrow morning." She raises an eyebrow
at his mention of wanting to see the forest. "I've been in there
a couple times myself, though it wasn't near Ponyville. It's not
really so bad if you know what you're doing, even though most
ponies seem to think it's instant death or something. As for
beds, yes, this is an inn. And I do have some rooms available
now. I take it you want one?"

"An apartment? Heh... That would be a first..." Darrus mumbled
in response to the teasing, the Pegasus desperately hoping it
wouldn't actually become so serious as to require such permanent
lodgings as he sat up a little straighter and smiled at the
mare's agreement to showing him the way to the bowling alley the
next day. "Hm," he responded to her opinion of the forest,
nodding a bit in agreement over how it probably wasn't as
terrifyingly deadly as most assumed, "well, when a bunch of
small town ponies see it as a dark spooky forest full of
monsters it probably doesn't come as a surprise that they may
build up its reputation a little. And you're right in assuming
I'm looking for a bed. It's just..." He brought a hoof up to his
chin so as to tap it thoughtfully, "now I just need to think of
a way to convince you to let me have said bed for free... Unless
your rates are mere single digit figures set low for a night?"

"Twenty bits a night, sorry." Lamplight says, sounding slightly
regretful. "You're not going to find much cheaper either. You
really don't have enough for that?" She asks, frowning slightly,
and glances around the room, thinking. "I'll tell you what, you
come back later, when it starts getting busier, and help me out
with serving and help clean up after I close, and you can have a
room. That sound good?"

Yup, no free rides for Darrus. He figured as much as giving away
rooms for free would have been a silly business move. However,
the idea of just cleaning up a bit and passing some plates
around later that day to earn a night didn't sound too bad. He
was looking for work after all, and spending a couple hours
helping out in order to have a proper place to rest his head for
the coming evenings seemed very doable. "No... I really don't
have enough for that." He replied a little bluntly before trying
to brighten back up and give a nod. "But I'd be happy to earn my
stay if that's what it will take. It's a deal."
Momentarily shifting his attention to the rest of the room
behind him, Darrus spent a couple of seconds watching as two
stallion, who had both clearly had far too much to drink, began
to argue over how they both believes that the other had stolen
their outfit for the day. And this was only happening because
they both shared the same color coat and were not, in fact,
wearing any actual clothing. "... Actually, this reminds me that
I should probably head out and see about looking for some paying
work." The stallion said as he stood up from his stool and took
a step back from the counter, "I should go take care of that now
before I get distracted or something. I'll see you later tonight
to work out that room business. Thanks for the info, talk and
compromise... uh... Huh. I don't think we've exchanged names
yet, have we?" Darrus jabbed his hoof out to offer a string and
friendly shake as he introduced himself, "My name is Darrus.
It's a pleasure to have met you, Miss...?"

"Nice to meet you Darrus." Lamplight says with a smile,
extending her hoof and giving his a shake. "I'm Lamplight. I'll
see you later Darrus" She releases his hoof and looks out across
the room. Right, drinks to refill, plates to grab. Giving the
pegasus a final smile, she hurries out from behind the bar and
off to work.

"Till then!" Darrus replied with a nod before turning and
heading for the exit, leaving Lamplight to return to her work as
he left to find his own. Well, his first destination was obvious
from how it kept being recommended to him, so, after stepping
his way around a few patrons and finding his way back outside,
Darrus took a brief and achy trip up into the sky to get his
bearings before gliding back down and heading off to find the
source of the cider and, hopefully, work he so desired.
