       Re: Splitting the Rent
By: Schwambart Date: January 27, 2014, 9:40 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Schwambart stands uneasily in the stall until he hears Snow
calls back in for him. Well, this has to be one of the
strangest things he's ever done. Period. He hopes he never
needs to make a habit of this. He hurries out when she does
call, not really knowing how wide his window of opportunity
would be. His blush recedes extremely noticeably as soon as
he's out. "Right. Right. I never want to go in there again,"
he says with a clear of his throat and an aversion of his eyes.
She *was* the one that brought him in, but still.
"Yeah, nothing big," the green pegasus assured the grey one as
he takes his seat, his blush returning very slightly before
fading the rest of the way, leaving his face an unblemished
green again. Lightweight? Not sure what that's referring to.
Maybe since, as a pegasus, he's lighter than her, as an earth
pony? Kind of important for flight, but not really relevant
here. Was it a compliment? Could be. He'd take it as one,
then, since he doesn't know. He flashes her a smile and one for
the waitress. "Nah, not too much more. One or..." He stops
and frowns. Wait. She mentioned alcohol. Why would...had she
gotten him to get...well, he supposes it's his fault for not
       asking, but...
He doesn't react to the other stallion's jab, not really
thinking about enough to understand the implication. "Naw, just
met her this past week. It's been...interesting. Sure is
lively," he replies, looking at the table. When the waitress
returns with their drinks, he gives her a forced smile and takes
it with a soft "Thanks," then just stares into it for a second
or two. "So...is this an...alcoholic drink?" He hadn't even
noticed with the taste of butterscotch and chocolate, and he's
never tasted it before. He'd told himself he never would.

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Snowflake shook her head as the new stallion asked if they had
been together for long, following up Schwambart's answer with,
"Nah love, jus' flatmates's awll. Though' Oi'd take 'im out to
the clubs an' see 'ow 'e does." She shrugged and said in a
rather 'meh' tone, "Well, on th'posi'ive soide, we've koinda
found a drink he loikes. Now 'e's jus' gotta figure ou' 'ow
t'make i' 'imself a' 'ome, save 'im some cash." She didn't
really take offence to the more teasing tone in the new
stallion's voice. There are a few things that that little talk
could have looked like, and trying to contest them all with what
actually happened would take far too much time, and would only
make her look like she was trying to cover for herself, "Also
brough' 'im 'ere t'see'f Oi could get 'im t'tawlk t'some other
mares, see who 'e can make friends with, bu' ya know 'ow tha'
       went."
As Schwambart picked up his drink, asking if it was alcoholic,
Snow replied, "Yeah, 's'got a li'l bi' of alcohol in it. All
th'mixed drinks loike tha' 'ere do." She grinned at him and
       asked, "S'good, yeah? I must'a picked the roigh' choice fer ya;
ya drank tha' first one down pre'y quickly. Take i' slow wi'
this one though," she gave his shoulder a little pat as she
warned, "Oi dunno 'ow well ya 'old ya liquor, bu' if yer as
loigh' as Oi think you are, yer gonna start feelin' it abou'
'awlfway through this drink 'ere." As she finished that
statement, she turned back to her own drink, starting to regret
that she started with spirits instead of a beer. If she were to
get a beer now, she wouldn't feel all that great the next
morning, and an awful hangover is not something a professor
should have when the first day of classes starts.
After a quick drink, she addressed the new stallion again, "So
wot's yer name, love? This 'ere's Schumbawt, bu' Oi jus' call
'im Cappy, an' Oi'm Snow. Ya come ou' t'th'clubs of'en?"

Realising he hadn't quite been right with his assumption of
their activities and relationship, Crescendo shrugged
       apologetically and chuckled a little.
"Nice to meet ya, Cap and Snow. The name's Crescendo, but most
ponies call me Cresh. Sorry bout the uh.. assumptions. Yep, I
guess you could call me a frequent club-goer. By the way, it's
nice to see you're getting him out into the party scene. How are
you liking it so far, by the way, guy?" Crescendo spoke up in
reply, voice and expression friendly, as he sat back to speak to
the pair of them, managing to control his slurring rather
       nicely.

"Schwambart," he corrects absently, not really even knowing he'd
said it. The green stallion shrugs. "I don't know. It's loud,
and bright and dark at the same time, and there are an awful lot
of ponies here and I don't know any of them. I...I don't think
I've had enough time to really decide how it is. Maybe some
other time, when I'm more...prepared," he finishes out to
Crescendo. "Nice to meet you, by the way."
Schwambart gazes mournfully into his drink. So he'd been a
sucker after all. And he'd enjoyed it. He had. Start feeling
it halfway through this drink? Maybe...he brings the drink up
near his mouth...and puts it down again. No, he won't finish
this drink. He can't bring himself to. It goes back on the
table he'd struck out with, then to the center. "I don't think
I'm going to finish this. Either of you two want it?" he asks
with a slightly forced smile, at least glad he'd be getting rid
of it and stopping it from becoming a grimace.

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Snowflake furrows her brow as Schwambart refuses his drink this
time around. This didn't really make sense to her; if he really
liked the drink the first time around, why would he pass it up
now? Perhaps the whole dating ordeal has gotten him down and
just turned him off of enjoying his drinks? Or maybe he was just
that against alcohol, and that might be a problem. There was a
reason it was called 'liquid courage', and if there was
something that could give him confidence easily, it would be
that, but really, it shouldn't have to come down to it in the
first place. Rolling her eyes as he pushed the drink away, she
reached for it and scooted it to her side of the table, "Well,
'f ya dun' wan' i', love, Oi'll 'ave i'. Some good quali'y mixed
drink there tha' ya jus' passin' up."
"Oh, an' 'ere," she added, fishing into a bitpurse to pull out
enough bits to cover the four drinks that they've had so far,
"Yer two drinks were on me tonoigh', Cappy. If Oi'm gonna order
drinks fer ya, i's only p'loite t'pay fer'em. Jus' give',
t'th'wai'ress when sh comes back 'round; Oi 'ave a feelin'
this'll be our laws' round if ya dun' feel loike 'avin'
anymore." After counting out the bits for Schwambart, she took a
sip of his drink, humming in approval before drinking a little
more. It wasn't all that bad, though she liked her own drink
more. When she set down his drink, she said, "Oi'm sho' 'e's
jus' no' used t'th'idear of comin' ou' an' jus' dawncin' or
enjoyin' some strange comp'ny. Oh well, i's somethin' we can
come back to; who knows, maybe nex' toime 'e can come wi' me
t'th'moun'ains when Oi go fer th' annual down'ill competitions,
eh?" She elbowed Schwambart's side a little with a grin, clearly
not expecting him to come out to such an event.

Although he raised an eyebrow at the mild disturbance involving
alcohol, and the green stallion's attitude towards it, Crescendo
didn't comment, not wanting to make Schwambart any more
       uncomfortable.
After letting the exchange play out, he refocused on the words
of the turquoise mare who sat with them, turning to give her a
smile, as he listened to her speak, his dark eyebrows raising in
       interest at her last words.
"Downhill competition, eh? Sounds cool. You a Snow-Sports
competitor then, or a fan?" The grey stallion inquired,
politely, although he slurred a little as he spoke, clearly
having partaken in more than two drinks, that night.

"And I'm sure you'll appreciate that quality much more than I
would," Schwambart says with a smile as his drink is taken.
"Butterscotch and chocolate is one thing, but historically
Schwambarts and alcohol haven't mixed well." At least not one
of them, probably the most important one to really get him to
learn the lesson. He takes the bits and eyes them. Ordinarily,
it would be the other way around, and if he was the one who'd
picked his drinks he would insist on paying for all of them, but
since she was the one really in charge here..."How much is tip?
Or did you include that? Nevermind, you probalby did." Of
course she did, she comes to this kind of place often, right?
He lets out a quiet yelp when he's nudged, his hoof flying to
break the contact. Yup, he's ticklish there. "P-please not the
ribs," he says to Snow as quietly as he can, not wanting to
exactly spread knowledge of his sole- well, one of his few-
Okay, maybe he has plenty of weak points, but still. That
particular one isn't one he'd like shared. "W-well, I could
probalby be convinced," he says at a more conversational volume,
putting his leg down along his side to discourage further
unwanted tickling. "She's a competitor. I'm not really a big
fan of it, but everything becomes more interesting when somepony
you know is in it, you know?"

Interesting, judging by the way Schwambart practically jumped at
her ribbing him, Snow had a suspicion that the green pegasus
here was quite ticklish, in quite possibly the most inconvenient
place to be ticklish as well. At his whispering, she let a
confused look go across her face before a smug smile took its
place. This would have to be something that she would exploit
every so often to throw him off, just to make him uncomfortable.
No more for today though, she thinks he's had about enough
emotional and psychological damage done to him for today.
Glancing back to Crescendo, she answered, "Too roigh' love, Oi
do th' snowboardin', tha' Oi do. Roigh' in'na offseason roigh'
now, bu' come win'na, Oi'll be pawckin' up an' eadin' back
       t'th'Stawll'yungrawd moun'ains t'star' practicin' an' actually

soide, an' some lessons for th'li'l fillies an' colts when they
need instruct'as, so if ya wanna come along fer th'roide, Cappy,

Crescendo listened attentively as Snowflake spoke, chuckling a
little at Schwambart's ticklishness, and wincing at Snowflake's
mentions of injury, but otherwise not interrupting the pair of
       them.
As she mentioned heading to the mountains to practice, and being
an instructor, Crescendo paused, rubbing his chin with a grey
       hoof.
"Hmm.. When did you say you were heading off to Stalliongrad? It
sounds awesome.. Mind if I come with? Haven't had a snow holiday
in.. well, ever." Crescendo inquired, grinning widely, clearly
interested in learning how to snowboard, even though he had no
prior experience with snow sports, or even snow.

Schwambart completely misses the smug look on Snow's face and
thinks no more of it. "Em...We'll see," he says, face going a
bit green (heh) as she mentions her broken bones. "I'm not
completely sure you've mentioned those stories before, but I'm
sure you wouldn't mind telling me a few sometime, based on your
attitude about telling me you have those stories. I won't be
able to return the favor though, since I've never done so.
Except maybe when I told a joke so bad I broke my funnybone.
       Does that count?"
