"Yeah..." Darrus replied, rubbing the back of his neck with a
hoof and shifting how he was sitting, "I... Uh..." ... What was
he saying...? "I'm sorry, what are these 'other ways' you have
for relieving stress? I'm curious to know..." Darrus couldn't
help but ask, his mind doing its usual work by immediately
latching on to that topic of interest, momentary breaking of his
usual attitude into an apology being a bit forgotten for the
time being as he wore a bit of a smirk.

Obviously expecting an answer, AJ stared intently at Darrus,
waiting for whatever he had to say about why he'd so obviously
flopped his turn and apologized. However, as he dodged her
question and went on to ask about the 'other ways' she relieved
stress, she averted her gaze for a few moments as a light flush
colored her cheeks, before she spoke up with, "You ain't dodgin'
the question that easy, Darrus," her gaze still averted as she
rolled a hoof around on top of a rock beneath her. "Ah asked
first. What were you apologizin' for?"

Seeing her reaction to his curiosity towards her stress
relieving activities, Darrus felt his smirk widen into a small
grin as his interest was only piqued further, the stallion
wanting to try and coax some details out of the mare but holding
back a moment as he was reminded that shed asked him something
first.
"Oh, right..." He replied, going from rubbing his neck to
scratching his head as he tried to get his brain to cooperate
with him for a second, "uh... Well... I guess I was just
starting to think you weren't having all that good of a time?
This night out together wasn't very expected, so I was starting
to get a bit... Well, I was just starting to worry that you
weren't very into this whole game here and were getting bored
with having to be out here with me at all. So, you know...
"Ah, I dunno what's up with me," The pegasus added, standing up
and taking a few rocks back in his wings, "probably just being
silly or something. I do know however that I will definitely
take a mulligan on that shot I made. The sun was in my eyes last
time, clearly." He joked, the obvious lack of any sun painting
him as a liar as he readied his wings again this time aiming for
some of the more difficult bottles placed past the fence and
near the trees, balanced on the rocks and what have you near the
base of their trunks.
Narrowing his eyes again so as to line up his aim, Darrus tensed
his wings in preparation for his imminent glass shattering show
of rock tossing prowess. The thought of attempting to juggle
four instead of two rocks briefly crossed his mind just before
he let fly his simple projectiles, him figuring two was enough
for now and having them both strike their targets, two bottles
being destroyed and adding to the amount of new trash littering
the grass. A hazard for any bare footed creature wandering its
way through the area, but a cause for boasting to a pegasus who
took pleasure in his own successes,.
After answering and making up for his weak fail earlier, Darrus
felt his grin return, the stallion then leaning towards AJ a
little bit and playfully bringing up the earlier topic of his
interest. "So... Stress relief... You know you've only made me
more curious right? Come on, share some details so I can sleep
tonight..."

Duuuuuuuuun-dun... Duuuuuuuuun-dun... Duuuun-dun, duuuun-dun,
dun-dun-dun-dun-dun~...
A peculiar gray cloud floated aimlessly along the skyline, just
minding it's own business. Yup... Just mindin' it's own
business. The curious anomaly seemed to stray by the little
clearing; a tiny tuft of nature that seemed to situate itself
near the tavern. Nothing strange here... A small fence had been
set up near the clearing for some undefinable reason, probably
to keep some of the younger ponies out, or perhaps it was meant
purely for decoration. Regardless, it was near this fence that a
certain rainbow-maned Pegasus spotted her mark.
Or marks...
It should come to no surprise that Rainbow Dash was steering the
darkened cloud towards the pair, sitting on top of it as she
sneaked up ever so inconspicuously like a cat would stalk a
mouse right before the pounce. She remained carefully hidden for
the moment, watching intently as the orange and red-ish pony
played their little game. Everything was lining up perfectly...
Out of sight, out of mind... However, noticing that the red one
just happened to be a Pegasus, Rainbow Dash would have to act
fast if she was to avoid being discovered. Pegasi have a knack
for noticing strange weather movements, after all... Just a
little closer...
If either pony happened to look up, they just might see the very
fringe of Dash's rainbow colored tail sticking out from
underneath the cloud. Perhaps she wasn't as hidden as she
thought, but the mare never really took notice.
The red Pegasus took his shot. One...
He turned to say something to Applejack. Two...
Rainbow Dash waited for the orange mare to reply, but figuring
the gettin' wasn't getting any better, the Pegasus reared up on
her hind legs and slammed her front hooves down upon the
darkened cloud's surface, generating a booming clap of thunder.
It was an old prank, probably one of Dash's favorites
considering all the different kinds of reactions she gets. But
much to her annoyance, she could never find the opportunity to
catch Applejack off-guard.
The prank was executed perfectly... However... There was just
one problem. Despite Dash's careful preparation, she seemed to
have neglected to brace herself properly and phased right
through the cloud. With a rather loud yelp of surprise, Rainbow
Dash landed with a solid thud between Applejack and the other
pony. Still seeing stars, the Pegasus opted to freeze in place,
now smiling nervously at the pair. "Ehehe...heh...Uh... Hi?"
While relieved that she didn't land in the broken glass across
the way, Dash couldn't help but wonder if that might have been
the better choice at the moment...

As Darrus started to explain himself and why he'd started acting
like he did, Applejack only gave him a slightly raised brow as
she listened. She didn't really understand his logic, but the
fact that he seemed to shrug it off shortly after made it
pointless to dwell on any longer. When he followed up his
explanation by saying he'd take a mulligan, she nodded in
acknowledgement before settling down on her flank again, one
hoof reaching up to readjust her hat on her head as she planned
her next shot. If they were moving on to the tree, then... After
Darrus flicked his two rocks into the bottles sitting at the
base of the tree, Applejack's gaze briefly moved up to some of
the ones in the tree, only to be held there in its boughs with
another light blush when Darrus asked once more about what it
was she did to relax every so often.
Her reluctance to answer was enough time for the cloud floating
above her to strike. When the thundering boom sounded down,
Applejack immediately started in place with a cry of surprise,
the mare actually falling backwards from what had happened. When
she recovered enough to be able to look around and see what had
happened, her gaze quickly found its way to the culprit: her
friend Rainbow Dash. Grumbling to herself as she sat back up--as
any friend might to another after being scared by
them--Applejack stepped over to Rainbow before offering her a
hoof to help her up. "Bah... Ah guess you got me good this time,
RD. Ah sure wasn't expectin' ta see you today." She then glanced
to Darrus before motioning to Rainbow with a nod of her head.
"Darrus, this is one o' mah best friends, Rainbow Dash. RD, this
is Darrus, somepony Ah recently hired onto the farm."

Darrus only leaned in a bit more as AJ refused to answer, the
grin he was wearing being hungry for answers at this reluctance
to indulge his curiosity. "Come on..." he urged in a playful
tone, nudging her shoulder with a hoof, "tell you what, you tell
me and-" Darrus was cut off when a cloud he hadn't been even
remotely paying attention to with how his attention was being
taken up suddenly clapped thunder directly above him and
Applejack, his grin being replaced with a string look of
surprise that was slapped over his face rather sloppily and
resulting in a silly expression that was easily worthy of a few
giggles from anyone watching. He was easily startled, him
jumping a good inch off of the ground in fact, before having
having his attention dart upwards towards the source of the
surprise... only to them have it fall back downwards as a mare
fell through a could and onto the ground between him and AJ.
Ah. Well, it was obvious what this was at this point. Darrus
just done got himself pranked. Argh! He'd let his guard down!
Normally he'd be able to pick up on when something was up -
especially if it involved clouds considering all the time he
spent sleeping in them during his traveling - but he supposed
that his brain had just been too... Um... distracted to notice
this time.
At the introduction of both himself and the new pony, Darrus
gave a nod and smile, him quickly shrugging off the prank with a
small chuckle. "Evening. You know, normally I'd be pretty
enthused about the weather leaning towards raining mares, but
when they're heralded by thunder I tend get a touch nervous
about them." He joked before sitting down and scratching his
chin. "Hold on a sec... Rainbow Dash... You mentioned her
earlier, right?" He asked AJ, "she's the one who did that sonic
rain explosion, yeah?"

Re: Derivation

With that goofy smile still plastered on her face, the rainbow
maned Pegasus gazed blankly at the pair... She felt rather
vulnerable on her back, and about this time, a little diddy
started playing in her head... Stupid stupid stupid stupid
stupid augh! Applejack first came into her immediate view,
prompting Rainbow Dash to blanch slightly at her appearance for
fear of scolding. Well, at least they weren't as bad as
Twilight's... Or nearly half as long, either. She expected to
hear something along the lines of 'responsibility', or 'there's
a right place and a right time' spiel that she's heard countless
times before. However, instead of being reprimanded for her
actions like Dash had predicted, she was met with a helping
hoof. Surprised, Dash's foolhardy grin turned genuine as she
accepted the mare's help, dusting herself off as she turned her
attention to Darrus.
"Now there's a new one..." Rainbow Dash skipped right over the
introductions as she immediately stepped up to the red-colored
Pegasus to give him a quick look over, scratching her head out
of confusion. Or maybe she was brushing out some dust...
"Darrus, huh? You hired a Pegasus to do farm-work?" Blinking
slowly, the mare threw a questioning glance over her shoulder to
Applejack, wondering what sort of bizarre events occurred to set
that in motion. Darrus' comment caught Dash off-guard, forcing
the mare to snort in order to keep from busting out laughing.
"You knoooowww~, we have a game that fits that description. Ever
played Lightning Roulette?" At the mention of her coveted 'sonic
rain explosion', the mare struck a victory pose... Or something
like it... "The one and only! The Sonic Rainboom is probably the
coolest trick I have in my arsenal."
"By the way, what are ya'll doing out here?" Dash nudged
Applejack, putting more emphases on her Southern dialect to poke
fun at her. "You're certainly not working. That's shocking.
Unless..." The mare cast her gaze to the ground for a moment,
but before long, a sly smile found its way across her face. "Did
I just interrupt a date? Oh, before you answer that! On a scale
from one to ten, how surprised were the both of you? You should
have seen the look on your faces!" The mare paused for effect,
pawing at the ground once or twice... "No, really, you should
have seen it. I was too busy reacquainting myself with the
ground."

A quiet snort of surprised amusement was all AJ gave when Darrus
made his joke about mares raining from the sky, the briefest of
smirks playing on her lips before he moved the topic onto
Rainbow Dash and how AJ had mentioned her earlier. Knowing that
it was only moments before that question was answered for her,
Applejack just took a step back and gave a single nod just as RD
bragged about herself and her Sonic Rainboom. Not really
surprising at all.
When the attention shifted back onto Applejack and Darrus and
what they'd been doing out there, Applejack's face paled a
little bit when she realized where Rainbow Dash was going with
that long pause of hers. She moved to bring her hooves up in an
attempt to deny what was about to be said, but she was much too
late. Rainbow had already begun to suggest that she'd
interrupted a date, causing Applejack to awkwardly avert her
gaze again out of embarassment. She really wasn't even sure
why--after all, it wasn't a date, right? Confused, Applejack
could only stare to the side a bit longer before looking back to
Rainbow when she asked what they thought about the surprise.
"Ah give it a seven outta ten," Applejack said as she moved over
to the pile of rocks again, taking up two of them and bringing
them a little ways away. "'Cause ya got me perty good, but...
C'mon, Ah know you kin do better than that. A thunderboom's
kinda antiquated." After the brutal honesty, Applejack lifted
the two rocks in her mouth before flicking them up in the air,
much like before. This time, however, she quickly turned on her
hooves and bucked her back legs into the air. The first rock she
kicked sailed into the boughs of the tree, not immediately
coming into contact with a bottle at first. Instead, it
ricocheted off of a tree branch behind one of the bottles and
back into the bottle in question. This impact not only caused
half of the bottle to shatter, but it also sent it toppling
forward and into a bottle below it which knocked it from its
perch as well.
The second kick was much less fancy. She was only able to send
it flying at one of the bottles sitting at its roots, resulting
in a much less impressive bottle shattering. "Yer turn, Darrus,"
she said challengingly before glancing over to Rainbow with a
raised brow. "Surprised you ain't nappin' on a cloud, or
braggin' about yerself to somepony right about now, RD. Slow day
Ah'm guessin'?"

Yup. Was same mare AJ mentioned earlier if her nod was any
indication, this being further confirmed shortly after by
Rainbow herself. That was good, as Darrus made a mental note to
possibly ask her about that sonic boom boom of hers and clear up
a bit more of the mystery regarding that moment from his
childhood. For now though, he decided he'd put that off for
another time and focus on other things.
"Can't say that I have, though I think I've heard about
something like it?" Darrus responded to the mention of this game
of Rainbow's, "you'll have to explain or show it to me some
time. Sounds like the best of times." At the question of whether
or not she was interrupting a date, Darrus, glancing over at how
Applejack was reacting, seemed much less embarassed by it in
comparison. In fact, he seemed perfectly casual about the
question, him smiling in amusement over the farmpony's
awkwardness.
"I suppose... I would be about a seven as well," he then
estimated his level of surprise for the colorful pony, "if I
were you and I wanted to bump it up to about an eight or nine or
so, I'd have chosen a cloud with a bit more static. That way you
could get a real small zap on em, preferable on the flank or
just above the tail. Would be kind of like getting someone with
a twisted up towel, which is no big deal of course, but that
along with the thunder and the flash from the bolt might just
startle a pony enough to get them to actually bolt themselves.
Trust me, I've seen it happen, and it can be hilarious."
Witnessing AJ's shot, Darrus gave a whistle then a small chuckle
at her challenge, "Not bad, Applejack, not bad at all. Now give
me a second here to figure out how best to simultaneously
impress and embarrass you with my turn...
"As for whether or not you're interrupting a date," Darrus
casually brought back, flicking his eyes over at AJ with a
playful smirk as he went about studying the remaining bottles in
the tree, "I think AJ is the best one to answer that. Is she
interrupting a date, Applejack?"

Though Applejack had patiently been waiting for Rainbow's
response, she could only do so for so long before Darrus asked
his question. This question caused her to freeze up in place as
she thought about what the answer to that really was. It wasn't
really a date, they all knew that. But there was a reason it was
making her fumble like this, and it kind of scared her that she
didn't know why. A long, awkward silence ensued as she searched
the ground in front of her, until eventually, she cleared her
throat and spoke up, responding to his question. "You never
asked fer one, so no... She ain't interruptin' a date."
