"Heh, terms can be whatever you'd liek them to be," replied
Darrus, "extra work on the farm, CMC damage control, a date,
pulling that cart of baked goods of yours for you into town. Any
of the many things I'm sure you would love to make me do." A
playful smile accompanied his explanation, the stallion knowing
what he did, "As for me? Well. I'd just leave it to me getting
to not have to do any of those work related things if I won, but
I suppose I could just say that I'd be open to negotiating a
certain select few options. I'll be thinking about it though.
Might have a better idea by the time were done.
"And the game... Well... I just call it 'Break the Bottle' since
I'm not clever with names, but its fitting enough since that's
all the game is. Just set up a bunch of bottles somewhere and
then see who can break more with some rocks. More impressive or
showy the shot the better. All wed need to do is ask Lamplight
for a few empty bottles she's got laying around. Oh, and loser
       cleans up the mess afterwards."

Applejack sat back in her seat again as he began talking about
the terms of the bet, her brow raising again as she crossed her
hooves over her chest. She guessed those were fair terms--and
she hesitated for a moment when he said 'date', wondering for a
moment why he'd bothered putting that in the list--before he
began talking about the actual game, at which point she
scrunched her nose slightly in response. "Sounds like a fine
game, Darrus, but Ah ain't much fer takin' bets Ah ain't sure Ah
got a shot at," she said, past experiences with bets apparently
fleeing her mind for a moment. "You an' yer talent fer
accuracy're gonna kinda make things... uh, how do Ah wanna put
it..? Not unfair, but... one-sided? If you'd've suggested a race
or somethin', Ah'd kick yer flank all up an' down this town, but
a game o' trick shots with somepony with a talent like yers just
don't seem like somethin' Ah'd wanna put wagers on."

"Hey, miracles can happen, right? You seem to already believe in
them if you really think you can beat me in a race," Darrus
grinned, sounding boastful and trying to stir some competitive
spirit with some playful verbal jabs, a light chuckle escaping
him as he joked around about the idea, "I could easily be given
a handicap since, you know, you'd probably need me to in
anything we do anyway to make sure this stayed an actual
competition instead of me just showing off all night. And maybe
we could make this a best two out of three games type deal. One
can be bottle breakin, another could be a race, and then a third
can be something else that you think would be interesting. Maybe
underwater basket weaving. I don't think either of us would have
       any kind of advantage there."

Applejack gave a quiet sigh at Darrus' offer and rose a hoof to
gently rub at her temple as she stared over at him, mouth
quirked to the side. "Horseapples... Why not. If you come up
with any ideas fer the third, lemme know." With that, she stood
up from her seat and waited so she could follow Darrus.

"Speed painting," Darrus suggested, obviously kidding as he wore
a smile, "juggling. Stone carving. Barrel tossing. Sword eating.
Fire breathing. Excavating." He stood up and trotted up beside
her, "deep sea diving, wordplay and seeing who is more
successful at stealing down royal cake from the Princess' plate.
Anyway," he continued with a chuckle, "I'll go sweet talk
Lamplight into giving up some of her bottles she threw in the
trash for our smashing purposes. Meet me over by that fence a
little ways away from the tavern. You know, the one by that hill
that rolls down into that small group of trees that look like
two manticores wrastlin when you look at it from the right angle
and squint your eyes till they're almost closed? That spot.
Should be a good one for this little game." He winked then
trotted off to find the owner of the building and attempt to
pursuade her to allow him the luxury of stealing her garbage
       away.
Should AJ do as he instructed, Darrus would arrive at the fence
near the mass of tree limbs that was the landmark he'd found
during one if his off hour airborne tourings of the town. The
stretching of his wings always did him a lot good when he needed
to think or just get a feeling of moving again, and he'd
stumbled onto this little mess of nature and found it amusing
enough to mention during work the next day. The way the small
group of foliage almost looked like a small slice of the
Everfree had been cut out of the forest proper then accidentally
dropped there while it was in transit to somewhere else was just
something Darrus thought interesting as well.
Arriving with a swift soar that let him fly around the area and
drop a series of bottles all over the area, all the same size
and empty of the cider they once contained, to create a
makeshift shooting gallery, Darrus made small adjustments and
rearranged the individual targets until they were just right and
created a decent enough range of difficulty, the easiest targets
being on the fence itself while the more tricky shots were
scattered among the trees and their limbs beyond. Once finished,
Darrus glided down to AJ and landed next to her with a grin.
"So, should we flip a coin as to who goes first, or would you
just want to start us out?"

A little awkwardly, Applejack rubbed a hoof against the side of
her head as Darrus began listing off various things they could
do, realizing he meant them to be humorous but not quite finding
the humor in it. Possibly because she just wasn't in the mood
for those kinds of jokes, or possibly because she had really
been hoping for a sincere answer. Even though he'd probably
argue that they were sincere suggestions... Still, she offered a
slight shrug to him when he told her where to meet him, and left
the tavern to do just that.
Patiently, she stood with her forehooves over the fence as she
gazed out over the town, losing herself in her thoughts for the
few minutes it took Darrus to retrieve the bottles and set them
up. She snapped back into reality when Darrus landed beside her
and pushed off of the fence, glancing over to him as he asked
who was going first. She fished out a bit and said, "Heads Ah
go, tails you go," before flipping it up into the air, catching
it, and holding it up for the both of them to see. "Tails, so
you're first." She then stepped back a little bit to give him a
bit of room to start them off.

       ---------------------------------------------------------
"Starting things off right then!" Darrus said with playful
bravado as he began to trot around the immediate area to gather
up some servicable stones to use for their bottle breaking
purposes. One of his wings was then unfolded and angled against
his side so as to form a sort of half bowl with his feathers
that his other wing was tossing the rocks he was rounding up
into, them being apparently effortlessly arcing through the air
and over his back with no real thought as they clattered into
the small pile before being carried over to AJ.
"Now watch as I completely mess this up in front of you..."
Darrus joked as he reached his head back to withdraw a stone
from his new collection, him then passing it over to his
opposite wing that held it deftly between its feathers. Flicking
his eyes between the available targets, Darrus chose one of the
closer ones so as to simply have them both work their way back
towards the more difficult bottles, the stallions eyes barely
narrowing as he lined up his shot then let fly the rock he held
in one swift and fast flick of his wing, the stone quickly
soaring towards its intended victim and striking true as one of
the bottles on the fence was shattered from the impact that
struck its middle, those with sharper eyes being able to
possibly catch it actually managing to zero in on the "O" in
that particular brand of cider's label.
It was right around this point, where Darrus was giving a small
smirk but trying to act like he wasn't aware of it, that he
began to realize something. He... had no idea how good of a shot
AJ actually was. Sure, he'd seen her use her lasso of course,
that being pretty inevitable seeing how she seemed to carry it
everywhere with her and he worked alongside her everyday, and
she was indeed quite impressively skilled with it, but he didn't
know how well such a talent would translate over to actual aim
with projectiles. Right now though, he was finding it difficult
to think clearly about wince his brain was now stuck focusing on
how AJ was "good with a rope". No! Bad Darrus!
"You're up. Show me how a pony breaks things down at the farm!"

By: Applejack Date: May 12, 2014, 9:13 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
"Uh... Alright, then," Applejack mumbled as Darrus moved off
again to gather rocks. Stepping forward again, she resigned
herself to just leaning on the fence and gazing over the town in
front of her as she almost boredly held her head up with her
hoof. She remained like this until she heard Darrus drop the
rocks and joke about messing up in front of her. Barely reacting
at all to that, AJ pushed herself off of the fence and stepped
away, giving them plenty of room to break the bottles in front
of them. Quietly, she sat in place as she watched Darrus prep a
rock, then launch it, not surprised at all that his rock
shattered the bottle he aimed it at.
Then came her turn. Pushing herself up from the ground, she
stepped over to the pile of rocks before licking her hoof and
sticking it into the air, testing the breeze, its direction, and
its speed. Upon doing so, she lowered her head so she could pick
up two rocks in her mouth. Upon raising her head again, she took
a deep breath to focus herself, then quickly flicked her head up
to toss the rocks into the air. She followed this motion by
pushing herself up onto her back legs, prepping her forelegs to
punch the rocks forward at the right times. The first rock that
was punched smashed into the middle part of the bottle,
shattering it into pieces as the other rock was already sent on
its way to the next bottle on the fence. That rock wasn't quite
as accurate as the first--while it did hit and shatter the
bottle, it only hit the neck of the bottle, breaking away part
of the bottle instead of obliterating it. She wrinkled her nose
a little bit in disappointment at the second bottle before
gesturing to Darrus. "Yer turn. That a good enough demonstration
       for ya?"

       ---------------------------------------------------------
"Quite," Darrus replied, the shots made being rather impressive
to him considering how when he usually managed to get somepony
to play this game the most incredible thing they'd mange to do
was possibly knock over the closest of bottles. Usually finding
his opponents in a tavern after a good length night of cider
probably had something to do with that.
"You're pretty good," second shot included seeing it'd been made
at the same time as the first, "this natural talent for kicking
rocks, or do you go around to the back of the barn and throw
things at it to relieve stress when nopony is looking?" Darrus
picked up a couple of the gathered rocks into his wings, one for
each, and entertained the idea of turning this into some kind of
competition to determine who could break more at the same time.
He would, obviously, have the advantage in that since he'd have
not only his hooves but also his wings to contribute to the
task. Or so he assumed, at this point he didn't know what AJ
would be able to do. For all Darrus knew she could couple her
previous technique with a quick spin and buck for four shots all
at once. That... would be kinda cool and stylish actually...
Wings... front and back hooves... Six. Hm. Darrus kind of wanted
to give that a shot right about now, though the idea of screwing
up and somehow face planting into the ground in front of AJ
while the then most likely airborne stones rained down onto his
own noggin was less exciting. As was Applejack's clear lack of
interest in what they were doing.
Darrus' wings tensed up as they readied their shots, then
relaxed as one of the stones in his left wing was just dropped
and the one in his right was shot much less impressively towards
another of the closer bottles, it catching the bottle's lip and
knocking it over and off of the fence where it fell onto a rock
and was cracked. Darrus then sat down with a kind of quiet
       "bluh..." followed by a sigh.
       "Blegh... I'm sorry, Applejack..."

"Heh, naw. Ah relieve stress in other ways, not by throwin'
rocks at mah barn. Ah've just had a lot o' practice by tossin'
an' kickin' bad apples outta boredom. Plus, bein' able ta do
this kinda thing's good fer rodeos. Plus, it's saved me an' mah
friends a few times--like when Ah've taken out timberwolves by
kickin' rocks at 'em... Nasty stuff, Ah tell ya," she said, only
to fall silent as she noticed Darrus start to line up his shot.
Then completely bomb it as one of them just dropped from his
wing, and the other barely caught the bottle it was aimed at. A
little bewildered, she stared forward at the place the bottle
had been before looking back over to Darrus with the same look
of confusion. "Uh, what the hay was that? Ain't you s'posed ta
be... wha...?" she hesitated when Darrus apologized, only to
walk over to him and gently prod his shoulder. "What the hay are
you apologizin' for? Where in tarnation did this come from? You
were fine an' dandy, an' makin' jokes just a moment ago."
