Insidious Penumbra

Name: Insidious Penumbra.
Race: Unicorn.
Gender: Stallion.
Age: 23
Physical Description: Insidious is a moderately tall, gangly and
spindly unicorn stallion, with a slightly unhealthy looking
pallor, and rather heavily scarred forelegs. His coat is a dark
olive green, and his eyes are a brown so dark as to be almost
black. His mane and tail are jagged and unkempt, and are two
differing shades of grey, while his magical aura is the same
near-black as his eyes, without too much sparkle to it.
His cutie-mark takes the shape of an oddly proportioned and
slightly wobbly silver star, formed by two interlocking
triangles, a semicircular shape representing an eye filled with
a tiny silver flame, in the centre.
Special Talent: The use of dark-magics, particularly relating to
the binding and banishment of dangerous magical entities.
Likes: Arcane knowledge, triumphing over malevolent entities,
reading mystical or dangerous tomes, pizza, meeting likeminded
ponies, caring for his familiar, fancy and comfortable robes,
and other elements of high culture.
Dislikes: His family, family reunions, insects, judgemental
ponies, ponies who lump him in with evil users of magic, the
sacrifices and injuries often necessitated by his magic, actual
evil magic users, raising the dead as part of his work.
Strengths: Skilled and practiced user of strange, ritualistic
magic, and the binding and banishing of powerful magical
entities. Has dabbled in necromancy, but prefers not to use it
if at all possible. Has some knowledge of conventional magic,
but knows little beyond telekinesis, basic magic missiles and
teleportation. Possesses a working knowledge of obscure magical
lore, and is relatively apt at sewing.
Weaknesses: Lacks skill in many areas of magic besides the
bizarre and dark ritualistic magic he focuses on. Physically
rather weak and un-athletic. Much of his more powerful magic
requires setup or rare components/ingredients, and takes place
through lengthy and complicated rituals. He limits his use of
the bells and necromancy in general, as they are incredibly
risky, especially to the unprepared.
Fears: Becoming like the rest of his family, suffering the
consequences of misusing the bells, encountering/summoning a
malevolent force he can't bind, defeat or banish.
Bio: Insidious Penumbra is the youngest of a long line of secret
practitioners of dark magic, some of the eldest having achieved
a state of near-eternal longevity due to their necromantic
magic. He despises his family and their abuse of magic and the
lives of others for their own benefit, and left the family home
at a relatively young age. He fled the family home with nothing
but his bells, grimoire and familiar, to ply the skills he was
taught, in a more helpful trade, as a travelling arcane
investigator and occasional banisher of evil forces.
Unlike his grim and self-serving family, Insidious is rather
friendly and eager to help others, despite his unfitting name,
and longs to prove that not everything Dark is necessarily Evil
as well. Currently he travels Equestria, staying in various
hotels or camping out in the countryside when he needs to,
necessitating the rather large rucksack he carries with him
whenever he moves, containing all of his worldly possessions,
which, beyond camping gear, extra robes, bits and bobs and
books, isn't really all that much.
Extra Details: Often wears, over his dark, hooded robes, a
bandoleer of seven silver bells with polished ebony handles,
used in his family's unique style of Necromancy. Each of the
bells serve to return some aspect of functionality to, or assist
in the control of, the dead, and are arranged in order of
increasing size. They are all also rather dangerous to use, as a
miss-rung bell can result in great harm to the user, as well as
other creatures in the vicinity.
Owns his own heavily annotated copy of the Necronomicon, which
serves as his personal grimoire of spells, and a great source of
lore about all things Arcane. However, it is huge and very
cumbersome, so he usually doesn't carry it around with him.
His familiar, Nevermore, (or Nev, as Insidious calls him), is a
very minor demon/magical being, bound into the shape of a raven,
with moderate intelligence and the ability to speak in a loud
cawing voice.
