Ruby is a relatively short unicorn for her age, standing a good
inch or two shorter than other mares of her age. Her coat is a
faded magenta colour, and her shoulder length mane and tail are
a burgundy colour, with a stripe running through only her mane
that is of a lighter shade. Her mane is generally unkept and
unbrushed most of the day, and often hangs over her face, often
obscuring one or both of her bronze coloured eyes. Her cutie
mark is an occult pentagram.
Special Talent: Ruby is an expert on lore, myths, legends,
telling dark tales as well as knowledge of several bestiaries.
Likes: Telling stories, making a nuisance of herself, spending
time with her python, the witching hours, reading the occasional
fortune with her tarot cards.
Dislikes: Ponies that ignore her, salt, rabbits, conventional
medicine, logical conclusions.
Strengths: Understanding and easily using deception and illusion
based spells, breadth and depth of knowledge of myths, monsters,
and legends, story-telling prowess and expertise.
Weaknesses: Physically weak, small stature, appears socially
inept when not telling a story. Even with the vast amounts of
mythical legend she has amassed, there are a few myths that
terrify her, particularly those of darker nature, and as a
result, made her paranoid of quite a few things.
Spells:
Haze - Creates a mirage-like aura within in a fifteen foot
radius focused about herself, twisting and contorting how others
perceive the subjects within as such.
Hallucination - Casting this spell allows for Ruby to direct
phantom sounds to a general area within sight, from hooves on
tiled floors, to a crying foal, to barking dogs, and hushed
whispers.
Puppets - Allows for Ruby to create a small ‘scene’ on a flat
surface, where she can direct and control little figures to act
out certain stories and myths that she tells. Reserved for the
most detailed and intensive stories.
Fears: The possibility of a dark god returning (false),
gravesites, full moons, abandoned castles, tight spaces, the
result of predicting her own fortune, losing her python.
Bio: Ruby grew up with only her mother for the first few years
of her life, and with the both of them being as poor as they
were, Ruby wasn’t enrolled in any sort of lessons until she was
near ten years of age. When that time came, she was removed from
the care of her mother for being an unfit caregiver, and placed
under the guardianship of her new foster parents, where she was
finally able to learn how to read and write.
At this point, Ruby started to become engrossed in older
literature, most of it fiction, some of it being actual
historical accounts, to the point where she was starting to
develop a capability to recite stories she had read flawlessly,
and with a flare that captivated listeners. Her foster parents
didn’t seem to mind this, they had a perfectly content young
filly who enjoyed telling stories and reading, and she didn’t
seem all too distressed or troubled that she was taken from her
mother.
The change was gradual at first, barely noticeable even, but
Ruby started to become introverted, she would be checking her
closet for things that she could never quite explain, developed
a dislike to salt in her food, and began having night terrors.
Her foster parents could not explain it, and could only explain
it away as a paranoia developed from the nature of the things
that she read, and that she would eventually get over it. Years
later, and her paranoia eventually started to curb itself,
though she was probably worse off for it, having developed a
general wariness for everypony around her, and every so often,
she could be seen staring off into space, tracking something
that wasn't there.
While her foster parents try to figure out what to do with their
foster child, Ruby continues to soak up knowledge of ancient
legends and lore, telling these tales to the public in exchange
for bits, and even trying her hoof at reading fortunes to the
more higher class ponies for even more bits.
Extra Details: Has an albino python she named “Pharasma”.
