"I doubt it. I might be able to help out in very specific, gem
or geology related areas, but other than that, don't expect much
on the mistake-prevention front, Sero." Lapis responded, voice
and smile easy, as she finally finished cutting down the
gemstone, and with a satisfied smile, placed her tools aside and
hefted it up to the light, marvelling in the way it bathed the
       room in its flamelike light.
"There we go, good to go." The crystal mare commented, simply,
as she turned to Sero with an eager smile, moving towards him
with the gem in hoof, ready to place it within the Durilli
       itself.

"Well so far it seems most of what well be doing will be gem or
geology based," Serp replied with a gesture of his hoof towards
the Durilli, "so you'll probably prevent more mistakes than you
think." He grinned as he watched the ruby be held up to the
light, him then turning it to Lapis as she confirmed its status
as being ready for the footing crystal. "Wonderful!" He almost
cheered, spinning around on his hooves and walking up to his
Durilli. "Okay, so the slot for fire should, according to my
research and what translations I've been able to manage, be this
one here," he touched the section of the the Durilli's ring
immediately to the right of the detached wind portion, it still
hovering with its wind walker token and attempting in vain to
orbit around the main crystal. Sero looked back to Lapis,
excited grin plastered over his face as he held out a hoof,
"hoof it over and we can finally know for sure if we're on the
right track with this one. Unless, of course, you would like to
       do the honor yourself?"

"Oh.. Well, then I'll do my best to catch you out on your
mistakes, Sero." Lapis responded, her smile widening into a
grin, as she moved towards the Durilli, studying it carefully.
After thinking for a moment or two, the ultramarine mare smiled,
and placed the completed ruby in Sero's outstretched hoof,
speaking as she did so, voice warm and congratulatory.
"Nah. It's your research, your mission, and your hard work. You
do the honours." Lapis spoke up, grinning and nodding her head
encouragingly, as she waited for Sero to place the ruby in the
slot it had been carefully cut down for.

Sero's grin only somehow found a way to strengthen further as
the ruby was placed in his hoof, the white unicorn shining it
brightly at Lapis before turning his attention back to the
Durilli, hoof then slowly reaching for the appropriate slot for
the gem he held. "Okay..." he said quietly, taking a breath to
calm himself down a little, "... Here goes..." Sliding the cut
gem into place, it fitting perfectly into the appropriat slot,
Sero then took a step back so as to watch not only the crystal
and its ring fragments but also the symbols being casted onto
the ceiling, eyes sharp for the tiniesst of changes that may
take place. He waited for a few seconds... Then a few seconds
more... Then his grin took on a shade of worry when he saw
nothing happening. Not wanting to panic or be quick to show
didsapointment like he had earlier with the fragment, Sero
walked back up to the Durilli, hoof then being pressed against
the ruby to make sure it was fully in place, though he paused
once he touched it. "... Ruby is warming up," he said, glancing
over at Lapis, "its not burning, though, just staying pleasantly
warm. The section of the ring its for is doing the same," he
added, sliding his hoof from the fire partion of the Durilli's
ring to its empty neighbor, "but only that section. I'm... Not
sure what that means..." His voice grew steadily more quiet as
he tried to figure out what was going on, his horn then lighting
up and pulling one of his journals he'd brought over to him
where it then hovered and flipped open in his golden magic,
"Does this mean its not working, or is that a sign that its
actually a good gem to use...? Maybe there's a pattern, an
certain order as to which gems should be pit in when? Or, maybe
this heat is what its supposed to do, but why would wind cast
       symbols...?"

Lapis looked on interestedly as Sero placed the gem, a smirk
forming on her face at the excited grin on the pale stallion's
face, as he set the gem into place on the Durilli, and waited
       for something interesting to happen.
Noting a profound lack of something interesting after a minute
or so of the gem resting in its socket, Lapis frowned, rubbing
her chin with a hoof, her face taking on an expression of
concern, which was eased somewhat by the news that the Durilli
Was in fact reacting to the Fire Ruby's presence.
"Well.. Maybe it'll have more of a reaction once we have the
other gems. That, or yeah, it could be based on an order..
You're welcome to stay and try to puzzle it out, if you'd like."
Lapis offered, a thoughtful frown on her lightly-scarred face,
as she fetched a chair for the pale stallion with a practised
lash of her tail, setting it down next to him with a smile, as
if expecting that figuring out what the Durilli was doing and
why, could take quite a long time.

Sero stared at the Durilli as Lapis spoke, still waiting to see
if anything more would happen before finally glancing over at
the chair being offered and humming in thought. Mm.... he'd
obsessed over this crystal and these gems enough for one night,
he thought as he closed his journal and set it down next to the
still floating crystal, the only further experimenting he
decided to do at the moment being removing the gems in the
opposite order they'd been inserted. The wind walker token was
the first of the two to be removed, the affect being that the
section of the ring, of course, ceased its hovering and returned
to the rest of the Durilli while the crystal itself lost its
glow and gently ceased its floating and casting of symbols,
ending up just laying back down and taking on its dull lightless
color again, albeit with a new warmth brought on by the fore
ruby, a warmth that was also taken away when the ruby was pulled
out and set aside. "Nah, its getting late, and we have all the
time in the world to figure this out," Sero said, giving Lapis a
smile as he slipped his token into his pack, "besides, I think
we had other plans for after this experiment. Something
involving sweet delicious ice cream? Unless, of course, you'd
rather we just called it a night or would instead prefer to
       study up?"

Much as she would have liked to figure out what was going on
with the Durilli, and the ruby's reaction with it, Lapis' smile
slowly grew as Sero began to pack it away, culminating in a
rather wide grin when he mentioned their prior plans to go out
for ice cream, the crystal mare responding by replacing the ruby
in its case, and heading to the doorway, snatching up her coat
and pulling it on as she did so.
From her new position in the doorway, with her warm coat done up
tightly around her toned body, Lapis grinned, and beckoned Sero
with a flick of her long, brown-grey tail, her grin turning into
       a faint smirk.
"Cmon then, Sero. It's not polite to keep a mare waiting for her
ice cream, especially if there's mint-chip flavour." She spoke
up, voice friendly, her golden eyes carrying a twinkle of
humour, as she waited for him to accompany her, clearly eager to
go despite how late it was getting.

"Mint-chip?" Sero echoed back, returning her smirk with a small
approving grin as he put the Durilli back into his pack and set
his journal aside for the mare to study later, "you're a mare
who knows her ice cream, Laz, for youve chosen the best flavor
there is. I'm far too much of a gentlecolt to keep you from such
a delicious treat, so I suppose wed best hurry on our way, hm?
Come partner!" He said as he made to leave and search the city
for their desired dairy delights, "Let us be off! I'm sure there
is an ice cream parlor still open out there just waiting for us
       to find!"

"Hehe, no doubt. Sounds like an adventure already, Sero." Lapis
replied, grinning and nodding in response to Sero's statement
about the best flavour of ice cream, and their quest to find a
shop that remained open, as she moved to stand at his side,
following close by as they departed, an eager grin still on her
face, as she locked the cart behind them, and set off.
