Re: Journals and Gemstones

"I'd assume a split like that would be enough to spell the final
days of this religion, yeah. Actually quite interesting stuff.."
Lapis murmured in response, actually genuinely interested,
although she continued to work as she listened.
Lifting up the gem to appraise it carefully, Lapis paused for a
moment to reply to his questions, shooting him a small smile as
she spoke.
"Don't worry, Sero, I know what I'm doing. The Ruby's coming
along fine, it shouldn't be too long before it's ready to test."
The gemcrafter responded, voice a little proud, as she chuckled
at his excitement, and returned wholeheartedly to her work.

"Good, good." Sero said, walking back over to the Durilli then
pacing back over to Lapis, then walking back to the Durilli...
theeen pacing back to Lapis. "So, uh, how exactly did you manage
to find then collect that ruby?" He asked in an attempt to both
distract himself from his excitment and learn more about both
the ruby they were using and the mare who was able to collect
it. "I feel like I've been talking your ear off since we met,
and I remember you saying that the ruby came from a volcano, so
that must have been quite an ordeal. Also, details on what went
into getting the ruby from such a place could help us narrow our
search down some should it, hopefully not, prove to not work
with the Durilli."

The fire-ruby now nearing its completion, Lapis continued to
work in silence, her tongue poking out a little in
concentration, as she continued to ply her craft, and reshape
the brilliant gemstone.
His question caused her to pause for an instant, an eyebrow
raising as she resumed, although a little more slowly, as if
listening, and considering something.
"Never said I didn't enjoy hearing you talk, Sero." The
ultramarine crystal mare commented, voice as blunt as ever,
before she turned her head to give him a small smile.
"Although.. I guess I could tell you a little about my work,
yeah."
"As I said, I dug the thing out from deep inside a volcano. Real
huge one, too. Was supposed to be completely dormant, but it
didn't seem all that calm to me, what with the lava flows, ash
clouds and cave-ins I went through trying to find something to
make the long trip worthwhile." Lapis spoke up, cheerfully
glossing over the exciting details that the stallion nearby
doubtless had been interested in, keeping her response as blunt
as her personality, overall giving the impression that something
like this escapade was nothing particularly unique for her line
of work, although the teasing glint in her golden eyes made it
hard to tell whether or not she was being serious with him.

Smiling at hearing her say she enjoyed listening to him, Sero
replied with, "Aww, you're killing me, Laz!" his hunger for the
details of what must have been an interesting trip through a
evidently active volcano causing the possible teasing from the
mare to have a strong effect, though he smiled as he spoke and
slightly exaggerated his own suffering. "You can't just mention
those kinds of dangers and leave it at that! You gotta give at
least a little more. Please? If not for me, then at least do it
for the Durilli's sake." He said, his tone playful as he offered
an alternative reason for going into deeper detail when it came
to recounting her no doubt heated trip. "Were you alone? And did
you already suspect the ruby would be there, or was it entirely
just a lucky find?"

"More details, huh? Well.. I was alone, except for all the
lava.. Or I guess it was magma? Anyways, I had heard about a
failed attempt to open a mine in the mountain, despite its..
volcanic nature. Heard there was some pretty valuable gems in
there too, so I figured a Fire Ruby wouldn't be unlikely, and
that it was worth a look." Lapis added, smirking teasingly at
the pale stallion, as she continued to withhold some information
on the trip, in particular, how she managed to survive, and
where she had actually found the gemstone.
Her work on the Gemstone was unceasing as she spoke, and it
quickly began to take shape, although it wasn't yet completed.

"Well, if the way your telling it is any indication, it sounds
like it might have been a breeze," Sero said with a smirk,
crossing his front hooves over his chest and glancing off as he
acted like he was less impressed now, "maybe, if it doewnt end
up working, the reason will be that finding the ruby just wasn't
enough of a challenge. Perhaps well have to find a more
dangerous location to explore for the correct kinds of gems... A
dip into the lava itself might work..."

"Believe you me, Mister Sero, it was Plenty dangerous in there.
I almost Did take a dip in the magma, a couple of times at
least. Almost dropped Splitter a few times, too." Lapis replied,
a little defensively, although there was clear humour in her
eyes, and her last words made it clear that she found falling
into lava just as abhorrent as losing her favourite pickaxe.

"Hmm..." Sero hummed, looking back at his floating crystal while
tapping his chin thoughtfully, "... I dunno... Way you talk
about it still sounds like it may not have been quite up to what
those Heart worshipping guys would have wanted... Unless, of
course, you're still leaving a few details out? Falling into
magma sounds plenty dangerous, but anypony could do that on even
the surface should a volcano decide to have an upset belly." He
still wasn't being very serious, and definitely wasn't trying to
make Lapis feel like her accomplishment was nothing to
acknowledge, but he also wanted her to spill more of the beans
on what happened while they waited for the ruby to be completed.

"Heh. Don't be silly, Sero. Of course you can't fall into magma
on the surface. It'd be lava, in that case." Lapis pointed out,
smugly, clearly proud her education, which had centered largely
around geography, was proving useful for once, as she continued
to avoid answering his questions about what had transpired, the
gem in her hooves, almost entirely completed, and readied for
the Durilli's socket.

"Right," Sero replied with a smile at her answer, "I'll admit
that I don't make a habit out of being inside of volcanos nor
have I done much involving them recently, so I suppose I'm rusty
on my volconology knowledge. Sort of like with stalagmites and
stalagtites. Mix up the two all the time unless I'm actually in
a cave at the time. Good thing you'll be around to remind me
about these things, will cut down on my silly mistakes."
