Journals and Gemstones
By: Lapis Lazuli Date: January 7, 2014, 11:43 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Lapis returned to her cart, humming gently as she walked the
peaceful evening streets of Canterlot, her smile wide, in
anticipation of her and Sero's upcoming journey to find the
Heart, and her own hopes of its enormous worth and size.
As soon as she was inside, she found the Fire-Ruby and brought
it to a nearby workbench, cracking her neck to ready herself,
before setting to work with her myriad of gem-shaping tools,
quickly removing a small fragment of the gem, and changing it
into a size and shape that would roughly fit the dimensions of
the Durilli, at least part of them. Since she wasn't putting too
much care into her work, she finished quickly, and after packing
up her tools, and placing the Ruby back in its case while
leaving the fragment on the table, Lapis sat back and folded her
hooves behind her head.
Grinning, she sat back in her chair to await Sero's arrival,
simply closing her eyes and breathing a sigh of relief as she
waited for the treasure-hunter to arrive with more information.

Trotting down the street with saddle bags now heavy with books,
Sero had taken longer than he'd thought he would, needing extra
time to carefully scan his journals to make sure they were both
good for getting Lapis up to speed on their little adventure and
weren't containing overly sensitive notes and facts. While he
wasn't getting any real vibes from the mare that he felt he
should be worried over, he did still only just meet her today so
caution was at the front of his mind. Arriving a little later
than he'd thought he would, the stallion, recognizing the hour,
assumed that the crystal mares cart had shifted from shop to
home and opted to politely knock instead of trying to just enter
it like and open store, him adjusting his saddle bags as he
waited for an answer.

Still leaning back in her chair, having dozed off at some point,
Lapis lazily opened one dull golden eye, as Sero knocked at her
door.
Stretching in her chair and yawning, the crystal mare sat back
and called out to her visitor, voice a little sleepy.
"If that's Sero, then Entrez! If it's anyone else, you'd best
have a good reason for knocking." She called, her voice
initially welcoming, before becoming subtly threatening at her
last words, as she slipped out of the chair to unlock the door
for her visitor, her mane messy, and body lethargic.

At the command to enter and unlocking of the door Sero did as he
was told, stepping inside and quickly noticing Lapis' obviously
changed appearance and posture. "Oh," the stallion said, with a
small grimace at his lateness, "sorry, Laz, if I'd known I'd be
so late as to cause you to actually fall asleep waiting for me I
may have just decided to wait till tomorrow to come back instead
of wake you up... But since I'm here!" He started back up with a
more excited and cheery tone, him reaching back into his bags
and pulling several journals which he then set down on a nearby
display case, "How'd you do with the ruby?"

Lapis yawned a little, but waved away his apologies and concerns
with a hoof as she did so.
"Don't worry about it, Sero. I was just having.. *Yawn* a little
nap.." The ultramarine mare replied, smiling warmly at her
guest, despite her tiredness.
Her smile widened into a grin as his enthusiasm returned, and
she quickly approached the journals to study them, interestedly.
As she opened up the nearest journal, her long, greyish-brown
tail flicked up to point out the small fragment of fire-ruby she
had cut roughly to size, that lay on a nearby workbench.

"Excellent." Sero said, his focus immediately locking onto the
cut piece of the gem as he trotted over to better inspect it.
Picking it up with his hoof, the stallion held it up at eye
level, squinting his eye critically as he wondered how the
fragment would react to the Durilli. "That top one covers my
studies before I set off on my first trip in search of clues
regarding the Heart," the unicorn said, side glancing at the
mare with a smile, "the one below that is full of details about
my trip to the sight where I found the Durilli, and the third
journal covers some of my personal experiments with the Durilli
itself. All in all, if we really dove into those journals, wed
probably have you up to speed... Within the next few days.
Maybe. How fast of a reader would you say you are?"

"Relatively. I'm certainly no egghead, but I know my way around
a book." Lapis replied, casually, shooting her guest a grin,
before taking the first tome he had pointed out in her tail, and
wandering over to her chair.
Flopping down, she flicked the book into the air with her long,
dextrous tail, and caught it easily in her hooves, settling back
into her seat as she opened it, dull-golden eyes scanning the
book hungrily, as if trying to ingest every little bit of
knowledge they could find.

Well, she seemed eager to get through those journals. Sero,
deciding he'd leave her to study as he got everything else ready
with the fem, focused on his own part, him removing the Durilli
of Trasa and taking a moment to once again try his best to clean
off some of its dirt and markings. It never changed much despite
his efforts, his best ones only having managed to clean it to
its current condition when he first recovered the artifact.
Sighing lightly at its stubbornness to continue looking the way
it did, the stallion tried to shrug it off and refocus on why he
was really here. Taking his wind walkers token and inserting it
into its proper place, the crystal went through the same changes
it had the first time Sero had shown Lapis its purpose, the
token bearing section of its ring detaching from the rest and
beginning to hover and attempt to orbit around the crystal,
being blocked by invisible barriers casted by the rest of the
ring in their jealousy. Light again began to emanate from the
crystal, casting the same symbols as before up and onto the
ceiling above their heads. Examining the fire ruby fragment for
another few seconds, the stallion took a deep breath then shot
Lapis a slightly nervous smile. "Well," he began with a shrug,
"moment of truth I suppose. Here we go..."
Slipping the fragment into the proper slot for fire, Sero pulled
his hoof back slowly as he stared at the crystal, watching for
any changes that may happen with the Durilli... He waited... and
waited... and waited...

Lapis didn't so much read the book as scan it, searching for
important or relevant details about the Heart, and disregarding
anything she saw as less useful. In her eyes, less useful
probably included many fascinating and intriguing details about
the ancient religion/culture, which Lapis saw no monetary
advantage in reading up on.
She shot the Durrilli a glance as Sero worked on it, frowning a
little at the slow reaction, if it did react at all, before
shrugging and returning to the first journal she held, scanning
through it at a blazing pace.

Having been holding his breath for the last minute as he watched
the Durilli continue to do nothing, Sero only now noticed bith
that and how he'd also been nervously chewing on the inside of
his lip, him stopping before he caused any annoying damage then
going back to his uneventful staring, letting a long sigh out as
he filtered fresh oxygen into his lungs. Mayge just... one more
minute? Perhaps it was just a really delayed reaction, and...
Sighing again, this time in disappointment, Sero stood up and
walked over to the small stack of journals he'd brought with
him. "If the fire ruby doesn't work..." He said mostly to
himself, taking up the third journal to re-read all the notes
he'd taken on his experiments with the crystal, "and you found
that in a volcano... then what could possibly fit the element of
fire better? Is it... supposed to be done in a certain order,
or... I really hope these aren't supposed to be certain gems and
I just got extraordinarily lucky with the token..."
