Lapis' smile widened a little as Sero responded, and she
responded in turn a moment later.
"How's the cannelloni? As good as I said, or are you not a fan?"
She asked, indicating the half-eaten meal on his plate with a
hoof, her own meal currently in a far more advanced state of
       being consumed.

"It's quite good," Sero nodded, taking a moment to politely wipe
his mouth with his napkin, "in fact, its probably the best
cannelloni I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying." He said,
reference how this was, in fact, the first time he'd eaten such
a meal. "And I can easily say that I am a fan of this. Getting
some real quality food I mean. Been surviving off of dry oats
and the occasional apple lately. It's nice to sit down with
somepony and be a bit more civilized for a night while we can."

"Well, glad to hear you're enjoying it, and that you're enjoying
the evening in general, it's been nice having company." Lapis
replied, smiling earnestly at the pale stallion opposite her,
before returning to her own meal, and quickly finishing it off,
humming in satisfaction as she wiped her mouth on a hoof, before
remembering the napkins and wiping her hoof on one of them with
       a sheepish smile.

"Mostly civilized at least." Sero teased playfully at her wiping
of her mouth before doing the same at the finishing of his own
meal. "The company is what really makes an evening, from my
experience, and this one has been quite nice. Speaking of the
evening, do you have anything planned for the rest of it?"

The ultramarine mare's faint blush of embarrassment was clearly
visible on her bright-blue cheeks, as she smiled a little
awkwardly, before raising an eyebrow interestedly at his
question, in the meantime still trying to get cannelloni sauce
       off of her hooves.
"This evening? No, nothing in particular.. Why so?" The bright
blue mare asked, clearly curious and interested in what Sero was
planning, if the raised eyebrow and slight tilt of her head were
       any indication.

"Well, I had a few things on my mind for what we could do after
we were finished here," The unicorn explained, leaning back a
little as he pulled his earlier plans and such together in his
mind, "nit to bring the mood back down to being businessy or
anything, but the first idea of mine revolved around the ruby.
We could go back to your cart and try breaking off a small piece
before going through the trouble of completely reshaping it,
then try sticking into the Durilli to test for any kind of
affect. This isn't guaranteed of course, and its very possible
it may not react to the ruby at all unless its the proper size
and shape, but there's still a chance something will happen to
assure us that it will work.
"Then there's all the studying that needs to be done both before
and after we leave the city. I take it you probably had no idea
what I was talking about with those ponies who worshipped the
Heart, right? I wouldn't be too surprised, sometimes I feel like
the only one who knows they even existed. Anyway, there are
several journals of mine that would probably help you to
understand what were in for a little better, and I could bring
them over for you to check out if you'd like.
"And finally," he continued, this one with a sigh as if he'd
just gotten through with work and was relaxing more, "if you
were in the mood for something more entertaining, there's a new
stage play being put on in one of Canterlots theatres. The
Shilivideni theatre to be specific. I haven't seen it yet, but
the play is supposed to revolve around a conflict that took
place near the southern border of the country some one hundred
years ago. I admit I haven't had the chance to look into it much
since I've arrived, but if its date and subject matter is enough
to go by, it sounds like it revolves around the dispute between
the Sap and Bark families control of a developing frontier town.
Given the details of what happened, I can guess that its going
to be a love story with plenty of drama."

Lapis listened in silent interest, nodding in response to each
of his work-related ideas, before pausing indecisively at his
last suggestion, the ultramarine mare not a big playgoer. Truth
be told, she had nothing against plays themselves, it was just
the snobbery and high culture that often came with them. Oh, and
the subtle nuances of the storylines of these plays tended to
get lost on the normally blunt and straightforward mare.
"Well, It'd kill me to do it, but I'm willing to sacrifice that
Fire Ruby, if we think it'll work with the Durilli. As for
reading.. it's not exactly a favourite of mine, but I can spend
some time poring over whatever you've got, if you deem it
important enough. For the last item though.. I'm neutral, at
best, towards the idea of plays. You'll have to convince me."
Lapis responded, voice and expression businesslike, the
       slightly-scarred mare's expression, however, shifting to a
curious smirk at her last words.

"Convince you, hm?" Sero had his eyes narrow at a hanging
chandelier as he tried harder to accurately predict what the
play had in store. "Well, if in right in what this play will
focus on, and not to give everything away now, but to sum up its
premise the Sap and Barks were the wealthiest and therefore most
powerful families funding most of the efforts is developing that
town to the south. Instead of jointly working together for the
best of the whole community however, the Saps started to
restrict the flow of supplies to make it appear as though they
were doing their best for the commoners in order force the
others to rely on them to provide what they needed and put
themselves in a higher place of power and influence, while the
Barks began to smuggle their own supplies in under their muzzles
while also making promises to the common folk to try and gain
the ponies of the towns trust. In the middle of all of this a
small group of the townsponies, most likely our main characters,
weren't being fooled at all by either side worked to find a way
to try and remove both families, but the towns isolation near
the border prevented any easy solutions, such as going to the
Princess, and most of the information that was sent out of the
town was screened by the families. Under all of this there was
another portion of the towns residents who were simply growing
desperate under all of these conditions and were on the verge of
throwing everypony into a big fight.
"Also, the seats of the theatre are cushioned and very
comfortable, the dress code, while relatively strict for most,
can be waved as long as you go with me, and I believe there will
be an after party of some kind where one is allowed to meet the
actors. Should be some nice hors d'oeuvres at least.
"Or we can just get some ice cream." He added with a shrug, once
again shining a smile at the mare.

"Ice cream sounds good. As long as they have mint choc-chip,
you've convinced me." Lapis replied, instantly, her expression
making it difficult to tell whether or not she was just joking,
or whether she had completely disregarded everything the white
stallion had said up to that point, although her faint chuckle
made it a little clearer that it was the former.
"Oh? The dress code can be waved if I go with you, huh? I didn't
know you had such influence among the Canterlot elite, mister
Sero." The ultramarine mare commented, after a moment, her voice
a combination of teasing and intrigued, as she rested her chin
on a hoof and raised an eyebrow.

"Eh," Sero replied, sounding like he wasn't very impressed with
himself, "I wouldn't go that far. Really, I've just met the
owner of the Shilivideni a few times in the past. He was
interested in a few things I recovered a couple years back. Not
having to dress up is a perk of sorts after having worked
together in the past. I could make it so were allowed to bring
dry snacks into a few museums too if we really wanted.
"The staff of the theatre won't say anything about the dress
code once I introduce myself, but the other members of the
audience, well, they'll give a few annoyed looks at first but
then just try to pretend we don't exist."
