Equestria's School Systems

What kind of schools do you suppose Equestria has? Sure, we see
the Cutie Mark Crusaders in school fairly often, but...is there
more? Is that just an elementary/a primary school with more
after it? Is it the be-all end-all of Ponyville's schooling?
Do Ponyville and Canterlot have identical school systems? Post
your thoughts on the subject here!

I for one am most used to the elementary/middle/high school
system, and don't really know a lot about other kinds.

I really have no idea where your middle school thing fits in.
For me, I've had elementary school and high school. Then there's
the optional College/University for higher education.
As for MLP, we've obviously seen elementary school, and the
comics give us Canterlot Academy.

Well, there are a couple ways of doing middle school here in the
US. Option 1 is Elementary School (K-5), Middle School (6-8),
and High School (9-12). Option 2 is Elementary School (K-6),
Junior High (7-8), and High School (still 9-12). I myself never
went to Kindergarten and went through option 1 (which is
probalby why I listed that one first). There are probalby some
more out there, too, but I don't know them. What kind of grades
do your schools have?

The only reason I know what you mean when you say grade is
because of American shows. We call them years, so Year 1, Year
2, Year 3, ect. The only grade we have is the marking type.
As for what we have, elementary school starts with what is
called Reception, which is the first year of school, after that
follows Year 1, up until Year 6. After that is Year 7 at high
school which finishes at Year 11. That's the compulsory
education, after which we can either leave the education system,
or continue with Sixth Form education which covers something
called A-Levels and prepares us for university.

For Equestria I do believe that there's only a few years of
required schooling for the basic stuff reading/writing, math,
history, etc. to make sure young ponies can live without being
hindered by poor education. Then they can seek higher education
through mentors or academies/universities.
So the CMC are in primary school, which every town/city would
surely have. Then spread across Equestria are specialty schools
for things like magic, flying, agriculture, etc.
That's how I see it.

That's probably not a bad idea. I mean, most ponies will have
discovered their talent by then and would likely seek further
education in regards to that. The potential for so many
different talents would make for a great amount of speciality
schools, and those with obscure talents would be left to
themselves, which is where I like the mentor idea too.

There are also the alternatives of Apprenticeships, Home
Schooling, and Military Academy's that any would be guards
could've attended. For example, there's the US Military Academy
at West Point, VA.
