Clarity has to go to the hospital? That's not pleasant. His
ears droop with the pronunciation. He only came tonight because
she wanted him to. He'd rather be home with Mommy than out here
surrounded by ponies who he didn't know and who probably didn't
much care for him.
He's grateful for the hoof covering his ear when Misty speaks
up, and then she offers to dance with him. What? She'd be
willing to do that? From the excitement he reads and mirrors
from her, she must mean it, at least. Maybe he's been wrong
about these things and these ponies.
Of course, he still doesn't know how to dance. Heck, he can
hardly walk on unknown ground without somepony to guide him.
Well...maybe he could get by without really doing much. He
certainly could if Clarity was dancing with him, that was
probable, since she'd grown up compensating for his blindness
and quietude with enough energy for both of them. He nods
half-heartedly, accepting this turn of events.

Clarity goes limp when Jazz tries to lift her to her hooves
again, giving a half-hearted glare at the pony with her brother.
"You dance with him? Who are you? I wanna dance with him! My
Clair..." She stops as he nods his assent. Well, if he's okay
with it...at least he'll be dancing. "Fine...fine. You win.
I'll dance with you later though, Clair, I promise. Maybe at
home." She stands and walks forward to give him a quick hug,
speeding up when she remembers about his empathy and how being
near him in pain would cause him pain. "Sorry. Sorry." She
backs up again and puts her head down. "You'd better get over
there then, the dancing starts in 17- er..." She counts
backwards, lips moving with her thoughts. "...two minutes." It
would continue for another half hour after that, but it didn't
sound like she'd get a chance to be there for all of it, so
she'd better make sure they join early.

Misty only blinked when Clarity glared at her, not really
knowing why she was being given a look like that. Her eyes only
widened in surprise when Clarity's hostility only increased
further towards her despite her not having done anything. She
put up a hoof as it to try and calm her down, but thankfully
didn't need to do that all that much, with Clairvoyant's nod of
approval. A happy squee came from Misty after that, before she
spoke up to respond to Clarity... Hoof once again moving to
Clairvoyant's ear to shield him from her shout. "M'name's Misty
Breeze, Clarity! Don't worry about him; I'll try to make it
enjoyable as I can for him!"
She then took Clairvoyant's hoof and gently led him out onto the
'dance floor', where she then turned towards him with her hoof
held against his shoulder and her head still held back so she
could look at him. "So d'you know how to dance at all,
Clairdude? If not, it's cool! I'll lead since you're blind. Just
put your hoof on my shoulder like I'm doin' for you, and follow
my movements as best you can. I'm not gonna do anything crazy.
Just sway with me and walk in a slow circle, okay~? Uh, assumin'
it's a slow song first. I hope it is. Otherwise, I dunno. I
guess I'll just keep a hold on your hooves and do what I can
with you like that!"

Jazz gives up on attempting to get Clarity to stand, instead
turning to the other chaperon to tell her that Clarity isn't
feeling well and to send somepony to go get Thyme. That done,
she sits down next to the earth pony, giving her a worried look.
She hopes it doesn't take long for Thyme to arrive so they can
get Clarity to the hospital.

Clair smiles happily with Misty's squee, her emotions buoying
his own up against the drop brought on by Clarity's pain and
disappointment. She seems like the happy sort of pony, which
suits him just fine.
He follows her willingly out to the dance floor, where one of
the ponies up onstage is introducing the first song. His
anxiety grows the farther they walk, apprehensive of being this
far away from Mom and Clarity. Does he know how to dance?
She's joking, right? He'll go with that. She's joking. He
smiles amiably and shakes his head to the question. Well, not
dancing with anypony else, anyway. He can tapdance, as long as
he knows he's on a flat surface. But that's not quite the same
thing, is it?
He nods submissively to her instruction and lifts his hoof up to
hers, feeling along it to find her shoulder and place it there.
Well, that's step one down. Now, what was step two? Oh, right.
He almost begins the motion before realizing that the music
hasn't quite started yet. Then it does, and sure enough it's a
slow song. Only instrumentals, piano, guitar, and a drum set.
The speakers work perfectly, collecting from the mic set up and
spewing the sound out evenly over the park. With the start of
the music, he does as Misty instructed, swaying and walking and
trying to read Misty's motions through her hoof and shoulder.

Misty's ears perked a little bit as music came from the stage
almost immediately after she spoke. It was a slow song,
thankfully, which meant she'd be able to go through the motions
with him easily. Slowly, Misty began swaying as Clairvoyant did,
now moving her head so her cheek rested against his. As she
swayed, she began to walk in a slow circle with Clair, letting
him lead her just as much as she lead him. "Just like that,
Clairdude," she murmured in his ear, spoken just loud enough to
be heard over the music but not enough to be uncomfortable.
"You're doin' good. See how easy it is? All you gotta do is just
focus on the other pony, and dance with them..."
A few moments after speaking, however, she could hear the sound
of snickering. She brushed it off at first, thinking it was just
a joke some other ponies were sharing... But when she heard it
again, she glanced around briefly without taking her cheek from
Clairvoyant's to see what the deal was. Ponies were looking
their way with almost smug looks on their faces as they laughed,
some other ponies nudging others to get their attention on her
and Clairvoyant. She didn't think he was doing all that bad, so
what was these ponies' deal? "Ignore them, Clairdude," she
murmured again. "I have no idea why they're laughin', but it
can't be at you. You're doin' just fine. Heck, I haven't had a
dance this good in a while. Thanks for agreein' to dance with
me~."

Clarity drags herself up and sits against Jazz, wrapping her
hooves around her adoptive mother in a hug. She watches Clair
dance with...Missy, she said her name was? Something like that.
He seems happy enough there, but she doesn't trust that mare.
Nopony from around here ever paid attention to Clair for any
reason other than to make him...wait...where is Missy from? She
doesn't recognize her, and she knows just about everypony around
her age around here. But...no. She's irritable right now and
doesn't feel like giving her the benefit of the doubt. {How
long until she makes him a laughingstock?} she asks Jazz through
halting taps with her hooves via the hug. She didn't want to go
shouting out her suspicions to everypony at the dance if what
Jazz said about her hearing was true. There are already ponies
looking at the pair of them dancing. At least they aren't
laughing...right?

Clair smiles and increases his enthusiasm slightly, blushing in
pride at her words. Yeah. This is fun. He's enjoying it.
She's enjoying it. This is an enjoyable experience.
...And then the laughing begins. At first it's a pleasant sound
to his ears. He's okay with this until he recognizes that this
isn't the laughter he so often hears from his family, mirth and
good feeling. This is laughter of scorn, condescension. He can
practically hear what they must be thinking. Oh, he thinks he
can dance, he imagines them saying. Like he can do what actual
ponies can do. He has no way of knowing if this is what they're
thinking, of course, but it wouldn't surprise him. His ears
droop and he slows down to near no motion at all. He wants to
go home.
Misty says they're not laughing at him. He wishes he could
believe that, but at least she's being nice to him still.
She...thanks him for dancing with her. Nopony thanks him for
anything...mostly because he never did anything...He gives a
sniff and nods, ears poking back up with the motion as he
resumes their dance in earnest.

Closing her eyes against the laughter as she tried to shut it
out, Misty flopped her ears down against her head in
disappointment of the other ponies. What the hay was their
problem? Those bunches of bullies! Making Clair feel horrible
for trying to enjoy himself... They were so mean! Why would they
even do that to another pony? What did they get out of it? Well,
at the very least Clairdude had begun dancing with her again.
That was relieving, and kind of adorable that he did that after
she thanked him. A smile spread on Misty's face and she hugged
Clairvoyant a bit tighter against her as they danced, once more
murmuring into his ear to try and drown out the other ponies.
"Seriously though, you're like a natural at this, Clairdude~.
You put in enough practice with me 'n' you'll be wowin' all the
mares in no time. And I'd totally be willin' to dance with you
more often; I really am enjoyin' myself. Hey, that's somethin'
we can do another day! Dance lessons~! I mean, if you'd be up
for it, I just wanted to try an figure out somethin' to do later
with my new friend~."

Jazz puts a hoof around Clarity's shoulder when she manages to
sit up, still looking worried but at least a little more relaxed
now that she knew her daughter would be taken to the hospital
soon. At Clarity's tapped out message Jazz gives the young mare
a disapproving frown, though by this time the snickering has
started to reach her ears. She turns her gaze to several groups
of young ponies nearby, giving them a look that makes it quite
clear that this is not acceptable behavior, and those ones at
least quiet down and go back to their own dancing. She gives a
glance at Clarity when her brother stops his dancing, hoping she
doesn't notice what's going on, but is relieved when he starts
again a few moments later. All in all, he's actually doing
pretty well, despite what Clarity's classmates seem to think.
