Clair wonders briefly if the hoof running through his mane is
ruining the part, his ears quivering with nervousness and
mirrored excitement. Clarity spent half an hour on it, and she
probably wouldn't like knowing that somepony went and messed it
up before she even got to dance with him. Maybe he should stop
it from happening...
He begins withdrawing his head slightly as a signal to sto-
WHAT ON EQUESTRIA IS THAT!!??!?
The sound catches Clair by surprise, pinning his ears back
against his head and causing him to leap onto Jazz in fear and
surprise. Geez, it felt like the ground that was beneath him
was going to leap up and eat him from the vibrations. He
doesn't climb back down when the sound quiets, staying on his
perch with eyes open wide and ears down and shaking.

Clarity takes her eyes off the mare with her brother at
Haywire's wave and begins trotting over to join hi-
The wall of sound slams against her, not quite with the same
intensity as Haywire simply because of the angle and distance
differences between them, though it's enough to blow her mane
and tail back, out of their up-do, and nearly enough to knock
her over before the microphone clatters over one of the devices
and it suddenly, miraculously grows much quieter...if it's still
going. She sits and clutches her head. Oh, this is worse than
the time she found the hammer and-
Whatever. She lifts her head and looks behind her. Yup, that
certainly got everypony's attention. Time to get this thing
started, then. She stands and totters over to the microphone
and picks it up in one of her hooves. With a forced smile, she
turns to the front of the stage and speaks into it. "Okay,
everypo- Is this thing still on?" She taps it twice, then
looks over to where it collided with the machine. On a piece of
tape, an arrow drawn on and a little description. This makes it
loud. Huh. And there, another one. This does nothing. Wha...
And further down. This should probably do something but it
doesn't. Whatever. She fiddles with the dial next to the first
note, popping a short "Test" into the mic from time to time.
When it finally gives her an audible increase in sound, she
smiles and turns back to the front of the stage. "Okay,
everypony. Welcome to the Summer's End dance. This is Clarity
Mirror speaking, and I hope you all had a wonderful break, but
now it's time to get back to school and learn
more...er...remember...uh..." She clutches at her aching head.
Why was everypony covering their ears? She can barely hear the
thing and she's almost directly in front of it. "Um...let's get
our band up here...dancing in...12 minutes...I'm gonna...lie
down..."
The gathered ponies make cheering motions as she staggers off
the stage and heads to the drink table while the band sets up,
beginning by turning the volume down. Somepony comes to help
her along, but she waves them off. "I'll be fine, I'm
fine...and why are you being so quiet? If you have something to
say, say it!" she blurts out loudly in irritation. Seriously,
some ponies...She stops in front of the drink table and grabs a
glass of punch, chugging it down quickly and turning to walk
over to Haywire, where one of the drink serving technicians is
currently examining his head as best he can. "Hey, Hay," she
says, then increases her volume to compensate for her apparently
quieter voice. "Hey, Hay. That thing's pretty good." The
server covers one ear and gives her a shushing motion, but she
ignores him. "Kinda quiet, though, if you ask me. Can you make
it louder?"

Misty only giggled when Jazz mentioned the stage was for the
music. She shook her head as she spoke up, tossing a teasing
glance over to the mare as she did. "Well, yeah, Mrs. Jay. I
kinda figured that. Like, it was kinda plastered all over the
flier that there'd be good music and whatnot at the dance. I
just wanted to know what was goin'--" She visibly started as the
noise from the stage blasted through the park, the screech of
the feedback from the speakers making her dive forward and onto
Jazz with Clairvoyant, her hooves clamped to her ears as she
cowered against the mare, her eyes shut tightly and her teeth
clenched against each other.
She stayed like that for about twenty seconds later before
hesitantly lifting her hooves from her ears and her head from
Jazz to see if the noise was still there... before releasing a
heavy sigh of relief at the relative silence as she began to
push herself back up. "Holy crabapples, I don't know what they
hay that was, but I sure am glad it wen--" She whined and
immediately burrowed her head against Jazz again, hooves
returning to her ears. She just stayed like that even after
Clarity had long-since left the stage, afraid of any more loud,
painful noises that might come from the stage...

Jazz gives a giggle of her own, and is about to go into more
detail about the music tonight when the speaker suddenly comes
to life, making her jump and her ears fold back. Already
surprised by the loud noise, she barely manages to keep her
hooves when Clairvoyant throws himself onto her, tottering
uncertainly. Misty also responding by jumping toward her sends
her, and her sudden passengers, crashing to the ground. She lays
in a daze as Clarity's voice cuts through the evening air,
unable to respond other than flattening her ears down more and
struggling beneath the two ponies atop her.

Somehow, Haywire had managed to find a juicebox which he was now
enjoying after having finished his sweet and delicious treat at
the tables. The refreshment tables weren't stocked with
juiceboxes. He didn't know where he found the juicebox. But he
found one. And it was yummy. The inventor happily sat near the
tables, ignoring the pony who kept mouthing words at him and
keeping the treats within leg's reach as he sipped his juice and
watched the stage, ears straining to hear Clarity when she first
started fiddling with his machine, then less so when he thought
he could make out what she was saying after she found the volume
controls for his invention. Talking about something regarding
enchantment under the sea or some such. Hay didn't get it. Must
have been a class in joke or something. The other ponies present
didn't seem all that fond of it though from how they were
covering their ears. Perhaps the filly slipped up and said
something she shouldn't have?
Shrugging without removing the straw of his box of juice from
his mouth, the little green stallion tracked Clarity as she made
her way over, him feeling a little bad when he noticed how her
mane style had been blown apart by his machine. Shame... he
guessed? Fashion and style was never Hay's thing if his dirty
coat and short messy mane and tail were any indication. That
other pony who really seemed interested in an impromptu game of
charades starting waving a hoof in Hay's face again, the
Inventor smiling politely around his straw then brushing the
stallions hoof away with a small shake of his head to show that
he wasn't interested in playing right now. Seeing the stallion
shrug, Hay was then left alone to go back to his box of juice
conqouring. Catching what looked like movement off in the corner
of his eye, Hay turned to find Clarity there, also mouthing
words for some reason. Maybe this was some weird theme for the
party he didn't know about? Seems odd that they would need his
sound system if they were just going to be quiet once it was set
up.
Waiting until she was finished, and not having a clue as to what
she had said or pretended to say or whatever, Hay blinked, took
another small sip of his juice, him running low much to his
dismay, then removed the straw from his mouth with a sigh of
satisfaction before answering with a confused but still cheery
smile. "... What?"

Oh, I'm sorry Mom! Clair taps out to Jazz, or half taps out as
the jumble of ponies sets one of his hooves on Jazz and one on
Misty. He sits there with his hooves around them for half a
moment longer, waiting to see if more sound would come before
hearing Clarity's own pleasant voice blasted out to painful
levels, clutching them both tighter again.
He starts feeling better when the volume is turned down and the
band begins playing a soothing, ambient melody to go in the
background, the sounds of the party returning to normal...except
for his sister shouting over near...he doesn't remember what's
in that direction, disoriented by the cacophony from the
speakers. He stands back up and backs off slightly from the
other two to let them up as well.

A juice box? Where did Haywire get a juice box? There were no
juice boxes being served at the dance. She specifically had
them NOT being served. 3 other ponies on the committee said
juice boxes, but she and a hoof-full of others shot down those
initiatives. Yet here was Haywire. With a juice box. Surely
this was a conspiracy of the same ponies as the ones that kept
trying to put those gosh-awful flamingos on her lawn. There
MUST be a connection.
And Hay doesn't seem to be really talking. What is with ponies
and being quiet? This is a party! There's supposed to be
NOISE! "I'm sorry," she shouts at him, though she can hardly
hear it herself. "You're going to have to speak up! Don't be
shy!" She glances in irritation at somepony who seems to think
she needs to be somewhere else. No, if she's going to have a
headache, she'll do it where she wants to. "Anyway, dancing
starts in 7 minutes! If you don't have a partner, you want to
share a dance with me!? I kind of have a line, but I'm sure I
could fit- What, what is it?" This last part comes after one
of the chaperones comes over and forcibly turns her towards him
and begins tryouts for a b-list silent movie role. Why can't he
just leave her alone?

Nothing yet, thankfully. The dance had remained pleasantly quiet
after those last two noises from Tartarus that were so
unpleasant and hurt her ears. Breathing a sigh of relief, Misty
finally began to remove her hooves from her ears before she
began to realize Jazz's struggles underneath her. Getting up a
moment or after Clairvoyant did, Misty immediately tried
offering Jazz a hoof back up. "Oh jeez, I'm totally sorry about
that, Mrs. Jay! Guess I kinda freaked a little bit, huh? You
alright? How 'bout you, Clairdude?"

At least he could.. kinda understand what she was saying now,
Clarity having upgraded her pretend talk to a very faint and
quiet whisper that Hay was barely able to pick up... Shy...?
She... didn't want to be shy, or...? Well... Hay didn't really
know how to help her with that... Maybe he could try to find
some other pony for her to talk to? He didn't know anypony here
seeing how he hadn't been a part of any "class" since he was a
colt and had since spent most of his time in his workshop doin
stuff. Face scrunching up a little as he tried to think of both
how he could help and why she came to him with this after
knowing him for such a short time, Haywire found the oddest part
of this to be how she didn't really seem all that shy from what
he'd seen of her so far, up on stage and all that.
His juice box was emptying fast. Haywire's heart was breaking
just as quickly. With one final sip of nummy juice the box gave
the sound of being drained dry, Haywire's ears drooping in
disappointment as he already missed his tasty companion. Holding
the box in his hooves like it was a precious egg that had been
shattered, the Inventor paid a moment of silence, which was
surprisingly easy with how quiet everypony was being, for the
loss of his juicebox friend... Moving on with a flick of his
hoof that sent the emptied container into a nearby trash
receptacle, the Inventor then strained to understand what
Clarity said next. Uhh... Something starting in... "syevvyan"
minutes... What, is that Empire time or something? Then... "If
you... partners... you.. dance" oh, so the dancing was what was
going to start.. "... with me?" Then she was talking about a
line being drawn or somethin.
Was she... accusing him of wanting to dance with her and that he
was crossing a line by doing so? Or was she... Inviting him to
dance...? Gosh darn this quiet theme! Everything was so
confusing now! If it was the former then he wasn't sure if he
should apologize or something. If it was the latter... awww...
he never got invited to dance by anypony. Still, the Inventor
wasn't lying about his not being much of a dancer, him feeling
he'd probably break something, or even somepony, if he ever
tried. The stallion just felt a feeling of shyness come to him,
him being glad that the filly had turned away in time to not see
how shed managed to embarrass the older pony with the simple
offer.
His response to Clarity, should she turn back to him, would be a
simple, small and shy shake of his head at the offer, him not
wanting to somehow embarrass both himself and her while also
running the risk of causing... injury. Hay then scooped a few
more treats from the table and started munching away to distract
himself.

Jazz climbs back to her hooves once Clairvoyant and Misty have
gotten up, taking the green mare's offered hoof. The knee on her
right hind leg gives a pop as she stands, and she winces at the
slight pain. "I'm fine, don't worry about it." She says, dusting
off her dress and stepping back over to Clairvoyant's side. She
looks around for Clarity, only needing to follow her shouting to
find her by the refreshments table with the stallion who had
been setting up the sound system. Deciding she should go check
on her daughter, she turns to Misty. "I need to go see if
Clarity is alright."
