Re: A Drink for What Ails You

An almost disappointed, sheepish look crossed Breezy's face when
Clarity tried deciphering her speech, suddenly feeling very
self-conscious about her ability to speak the Equestrian
language. She always felt bad for inconveniencing ponies like
that, despite it being something she always wanted to change.
This sheepishness lasted until Clairvoyant nuzzled further
against Breezy, causing her to smile gently as she hugged him a
little tighter for a moment. "Zhe spa...?" Breezy asked in
slight surprise after Clarity's plans of taking him to the spa,
thinking for a moment how most male ponies weren't really into
feminine things like that.
"Clairvoyant is enjoyink spa? He is not makink fun of for be
seeink zhere? He is very... uncarink pony, yes?" she asked, not
realizing what her words meant in contrast to what she wanted
them to mean. A moment after, Thyme came back with the books
she'd offered to give Breezy, and the gryphon smiled to the mare
as she reached her free claw out to take the books from her,
although she was a little hesitant to begin reading... "Perhaps,
if you vill beink villink, I vill return later, to practice
here? I am... not best reader of Equestrian, so I vill be
learnink better vhis you, miss Thyme. Em... How much am I ovink
for books and trainink?"

Clarity's look of concentration is replaced with a sad one as
Bree finishes speaking, and she sits down, stroking his cheek
instead of his ear. "Well, sure he gets made fun of. For how
he goes to the spa, but also for how he can't talk, for how he
can't see, how he can't smell or taste, for how he always has a
stress ball and a plushie with him, for-" She stops herself,
having been talking faster and angrier as she continued. A deep
breath. Smooth your dress. There, that feels better, right?
Her smile returns. "Anyway, being made fun of for a lot more
than just liking to go the the spa enough to keep doing it, and
the spa workers are so nice. It's his favorite place to go
aside from home, and they know him there. They know how special
he is..." She reaches and tickles him under his chin, eliciting
a silent giggle from him in his sleep.
"But yeah, he doesn't have an easy time meeting ponies who don't
look down on him for his eccentricities. We're in the 'noble'
capitol of Equestria, after all. I was barely able to convince
him to come to the dance this weekend." A thought strikes her,
and she smiles brighter, looking back up to Breezy's face.
"Hey, do you want to come? It's open to all young ponies.
Well..." She blushes and looks away, realizing what she'd just
said. "All young ponies and others. There just aren't very
many citizens of other races here. Oh, apples, I didn't think
of that when we were making the fliers. I hope they don't think
they're not welcome..."

Thyme's smile fades as Breezy and Clarity talk, her eyes
dropping toward the floor. Clarity was right, ponies here were
entirely too quick to mock anything that was out of the
ordinary, and Clairvoyant was very strange indeed. Breezy had
been perfectly accepting though, her short-lived pity aside, and
Thyme raises her eyes to look at the griffin again. She feels a
little better, though her smile does not return. "Together it's
60 bits, and if things don't work out I'll let you return them
for a refund." She says, her voice just a little lower than
before. "I usually close at four. If you're available you can
come in then."

Almost immediately after Breezy asked her question, Clarity
began talking about Clairvoyant's being made fun of, and
Breezy's expression took on a slightly more downcast appearance.
She knew exactly how it felt, being teased like Clarity was
saying Clairvoyant was. For her submissive nature, for taking
more time than others to grasp concepts, for her
over-expressiveness... The only difference was that she didn't
have a twin to support her like Clairvoyant did.
Clarity then asked Breezy if she wanted to attend some sort of
dance, to which Breezy just gave a lost, almost blank look to. A
pony dance, that she knew was going to mostly comprise of
ponies, if not completely. She would be the only non-pony there,
but... Clarity said Clairvoyant had a hard time making friends,
and if he was going... Breezy smiled to Clarity and inhaled as
if to respond, then looked over to Thyme when she mentioned how
much the books and training would be. Breezy paused for a
moment, taking a few seconds to run that through her head before
speaking. "I vill perhaps discussink vhis Moser first, miss
Thyme. Vheser she is agreeink or not, I vill be tellink you next
time ve are seeink each oser, yes? So until zhen, perhaps it
vill beink best to set books aside..."
She looked to Clarity then, the claw around Clairvoyant's
shoulder gently running along his mane as he slept. "I vas often
teased vhen I vas still livink in zhe Gryphon Kingoms. Almost
every day, zhe oser gryphons found new vays to be makink me feel
awful about myself, so... I vill go to dance, Clarity. I vill
gladly be zhere for you and Clairvoyant. I am not best at
dancink, sough. I am hopink I vill not be expect to dance... I
am not vishink to lookink zhe fool in front of so many ponies. I
vill feel out of place as it is, beink zhe only gryphon..."
She glanced down to Clairvoyant then, offering a quiet sigh. "I
am supposink vhe should vake him up now, so you bos can visit
zhe spa..." She lowered her voice then and spoke in a quiet
voice like a mother might when trying to wake their child.
"Clairvoyant... Vake up from your asleep. Your sister is here to
take you to zhe spa," she told him as she gently shook him
against her, hoping to wake him as softly as possible.

Clairvoyant blinks sleepily and yawns, withdrawing a hoof from
around...whoever it was that he was hugging when he fell asleep
again to rub at his eyes, a smile on his face. Feathers...does
that mean Windy? No, he didn't have feathers on his front.
Whoever it is is much bigger, too. He rubs at the back, trying
to remember.
Oh, right, Breezy. He just met her. She's a Gryphon. Talks
kinda fun. Strong heartbeat. And what was she saying? Sister
is here to-
And then there's a pair of hooves around him, and he hears a
giggle, an oh so familiar and wonderful giggle, and he removes
his hooves from around Breezy to transfer his hug to his twin
sister. "Oh, Clair," he hears her say as he traces a heart on
her chest. "You made a friend! You can tell me all about her
at the spa! But first, go give T-mom a hug while I get your
things. Time's a wastin'!" And then he's being turned around
and nudged forward, and he gladly complies, walking forward
until he's enfolded by Mommy's hooves in a hug. He returns it
gladly, ending the hug with another heart trace on her chest and
a kiss on the chin.
"Now Breezy! We'll be seeing her this Saturday, 18:00, right?"
18:00? Isn't that the dance? Is his new friend coming? And
then he's being swept away from Thyme and back to where he came
from, up against Breezy again, which he doesn't mind in the
slightest. He burrows into her feathers one more time, this
time being careful not to fall asleep, and gives her another
hug, held for 5 heartbeats which he taps out on her back in time
with hers before he's being moved once more, this time
presumably toward the door, leaning against Clarity. "See you
then!" she calls back, and he stops long enough to give a wave
in what he hopes is the right direction before being guided out
into the street.

Thyme takes the books back, nodding. "I'll hold them until you
return, then." She says, turning around for a moment to place
them on the counter. Her smile almost returns when Clairvoyant
is woken up, the corners of her mouth twitching upward slightly.
It comes back fully when Clairvoyant walks over for a hug,
though it doesn't last long after he lets go and goes back over
to the other two. As him and Clarity turn to leave, she gives a
wave to the yellow earth pony. "Have fun you two." She calls as
they leave.

As Clarity moved forward to slip her hooves around Clairvoyant,
Breezy removed her claw--albeit a bit reluctantly since she had
been somewhat comfortable like that--before just smiling gently
as she watched Clairvoyant trace some sort of shape on Clarity's
chest, then be nudged over to Thyme to hug her. As that
happened, Clarity spoke to her again, telling her the day and
time of the event. Smiling still, Breezy nodded to Clarity in
acknowledgement, accompanied by her saying, "Yes, I vill be
zhere, Clarity. I am lookink forvard to it." Clairvoyant was
then nudged back against her, and for the duration of this
second embrace, she gently held him against her, claw rubbing
his shoulder before Clarity pulled him away again.
Breezy offered a wave to the pair before they left, giggling
quietly at the fact that Clairvoyant didn't aim his own wave at
all in the right direction. She then pushed herself up onto all
fours before stretching her back paws out one leg at a time,
followed by her tilting her head down so she could preen her
chest feathers with her beak. Now that she had some time to
finally browse the shop she'd been so interested in in the first
place, Breezy slowly began walking past all of the potions on
display, doing her best to read their labels and figure out what
they meant despite her lacking capability to fully understand
Equestrian. Eventually, she moved over to the section Thyme had
pointed out to her earlier, spending substantially more time in
this section as she perused what was there.
When she was finished looking over the various potions, Breezy
returned to Thyme with a gentle smile on her beak and waited
until the mare turned her attention back to her before speaking.
"Miss Thyme... I vished to sank you for your... hospitality. I
have been... feelink out of place in Canterlot, but I am hopink
maybe I have found somevhere zhat has acceptink of me, and zhat
I have made some new friends. But... Vell, zhe point is... Sank
you. I am appreciatink you." She smiled to Thyme a moment longer
before realization played on her features. "And I am havink one
more question. Clarity did not mention vhere zhe dance vas
supposed to be... Vould you be happenink to know...?"

Thyme turns to roll around the counter as Breezy goes off to
browse, taking the books she was going to hold for the griffin
and placing them on a shelf so they're out of the way. After
also putting away the plushie Clairvoyant had left behind, she
busies herself cleaning the back area of the shop. Once Breezy
has finished looking around, she turns her attention back to the
young griffin. "I'm glad I could provide that." She says,
returning Breezy's smile with a small one of her own, though not
quite as large as it had been earlier. "Ponies here can be too
quick to judge, but they're not all bad." At Breezy's second
question, she turns and rolls down the counter a little way, her
horn lighting up as she comes to a stop. She produces a flier
from a shelf under the counter, levitating it out to show to
Breezy. "Here, this should have everything you need to know."

Breezy watched quietly as Thyme rolled herself further down the
counter, waiting to see what the mare was doing. When the flier
that was produced was levitated over to Breezy, she gentle
snatched it out of the air with a claw before taking a very long
look at it, her eyes slowly scanning each and every line of the
flier. Finally, after about a minute or two her face scrunched
up in a frustrated expression before looking up to Thyme and
waving slightly. "Sank you, miss Thyme. Zhis vill be helpink. I
sink I vill be goink now, so farevell. I vill be seeink you vhen
I speak to Moser," she said before turning and exiting the
Alembic.
