A Drink for What Ails You
By: Breezy Adlark Date: December 22, 2013, 12:50 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Pony cities were always so confusing and difficult to navigate.
The smaller towns and such had been a bit better, but now that
Breezy and her mother had arrived in the Equestrian capital,
everything just seemed so... overwhelming. She wanted to just
fly up and over the capital's buildings, but her mother warned
against that, said neither of them needed somepony seeing them
as a threat, and that Breezy needed to learn how to navigate the
city. Well, she was doing that now, and she had nothing to prove
for it save for the frown on her beak and the fact that so many
ponies around her seemed to be giving her a wide berth for some
       reason.
Quietly, Breezy continued forward through the city, marveling
only briefly at its splendor as she passed by certain buildings
before having to return to reality as she passed by more ponies
and practically felt their gazes burning into her. This
continued all the way into the central business district of
Canterlot, where the overwhelming feeling just got worse. There
were so many shops and ponies there, all with such a different
style and culture from what she was used to back home. Back
where she knew her way of life and knew who she was. Her gaze
went downcast for a moment after that, almost as if she didn't
even believe what was going through her mind.
Shrugging it off, Breezy began walking forward again,
remembering what her mother said about not thinking too hard
about that kind of thing. It wouldn't get her anywhere, except
further in a rut she only just recently got out of. Slowly, the
teenaged gryphon's gaze scanned the area around herself,
continuing to examine everything around herself as she moved
forward, skirting the edges of the streets she walked.
Eventually, one shop caught her attention, and she immediately
knew she had to at least peek inside... Since she wasn't certain
if the ponies inside would welcome a gryphon, even if she was a
       smaller, younger one.
Breezy walked over to the shop's window before hesitantly
stopping before it. She fidgeted with her claws for a moment or
two before taking a deep breath and lifting her head so she
could peek clearly into the Alembic and everything inside, wide
eyes of wonder examining everything inside from her place out on
       the street.

Thyme places a bottle into it's proper place, the turquoise
liquid inside sloshing around a little as it was set back on the
shelf. She leans back in her wheelchair, using her magic to
pivot around and roll down the aisle. That was everything clean,
finally. She'd really left it too long, but it had been a
surprisingly busy week and she hadn't had the chance to get to
it before. Thankfully though, today was relatively slow, only a
few ponies stopping in now and again to browse or pick up an
order. She looks around the shop as she comes out from behind
the shelves, making sure there aren't any customers inside she
might have missed while she was busy. Thankfully, the place was
empty save for herself and Clairvoyant, who was sitting behind
the counter. A movement in the corner of her eye draws her
attention toward the front of the shop, where a young griffin,
looking both nervous and excited, was peering in through the
window. She didn't see too many griffins around Canterlot, much
less ones that had an interest in alchemy, so she opts to give a
small nod, hopefully encouraging her to enter.

Clairvoyant sits in his mute, dark little world, aware only of
the floor beneath him, the sounds of ponies and such passing
outside, Thyme working her shop, and the stress ball between his
forehooves. The way he sits puts his head just poking over the
edge of the counter, his snow-white hair framing his grey head
and rounded horn. He'd lower himself if anypony came in through
the front door, which would activate a chime and he'd probably
hear their steps anyway. It's not that he dislikes meeting new
ponies, but...it's not something he's good at, especially since
he has no way to talk to them on his own.
He works the stress ball with his hooves, a smile on his face.
He'd much rather be at home with his adoptive family or twin
sister, but everypony was busy with something or other today, so
he came with Mommy to her work instead. It was always nice
having her around, and she sure did like him around. He just
wished she had more free time with him, but it was really no
bother. Just being near her was good enough.

Only one pony inside... No, two. Another's head was barely
poking up Breezy continued to keep her head barely peeked up
over the window's edge, eyes continuing to scan the shop's
contents. She wondered to herself what any of the potions would
do as she glanced them over, barely having any indication of
their purpose from her place out on the street. Just as her eyes
were moving back to the pony sitting behind the counter, she
noticed the nod she was given, which only seemed to brighten her
mood as she raised her head a little more.
She walked over to the door and gently pushed it open before
following it inside. "I am sorry for intrude," she said as she
closed the door again. "I vas not sure if gryphons vere accept."
It was possible that the gryphon was new to the Equestrian
language just from the way she spoke, not to mention the accent
of hers and the way she haltingly spoke as if unsure of what she
was saying. "Your shop is very lovinkly. I haff never seen
       anysink like in Gryphon Kingdoms..."

Thyme sits up a little straighter from her relaxed position in
her chair as Breezy enters the shop. A slight frown creases her
brow at the griffin's apology, and she shakes her head. "It's
alright. Anyone is welcome here." She says. For a moment, her
eyes wander her shop before returning to Breezy, and a small
smile forms on her lips. "Thank you. Is there anything I can get
for you? Or you can just look around."

Clairvoyant ducks his head down as he hears the swing of the
door and the...clicking walk of whoever walks in. Why does that
sound different from everypony else who walked in? He pays no
mind to her accent as he tries to puzzle that out in his mind,
barely even registering her words while he squeezes his stress
ball harder. Oh, a Gryphon. That would be why her hooves
sounded different, she doesn't have hooves. He's never met a
       Gryphon before...Maybe...
He brings his head back up again for half a second before
chickening out and ducking again. Not without Mommy. Instead
he lies down on his side and works his ball, pillowing his head
on the plushie he has with him today, his Snapdragon one. He
can tell because it feels like plants.

Breezy returned Thyme's smile with a bright one of her own, her
demeanor seeming to become more and more pleasant the more
welcome was thrown her way. "I vould love to look around. But I
haff never been in shop of potions before. All I am knovink is
zhat zhere are some zhat are helpink vhiz healink. So I... Do
not know vhat vill potions be doink," she said quietly with a
shrug, shortly before noticing the second pony behind the
counter bring his head up for a split moment.
Deciding to put aside her exploration of the shop for now, she
smiles warmly to Thyme, not yet moving from her spot. "My name
is Breezy Adlark. And I am new to Canterlot. My moser is
tellink me I should be makink vhis zhe friends, yes? But I haff
not seeink anypony who is beink my age, or zhat has not avoided
me. I am sorry for boser, but vould you be knovink anypony younk
I may be able to talk vhis, ma'am?"

"Don't worry, everything's labeled, and if you have any
questions you can just ask." Thyme says, then lifts a hoof to
point at a shelf, about halfway between them and the door. "Any
healing related items are there." The green mare nods again at
Breezy's introduction, though she doesn't extend a hoof to
shake. "It's nice to meet you. I'm Thyme." At the griffin's
question, she glances behind her at the spot she knows
Clairvoyant occupies, though she can't see him at the moment.
For a few moments she considers whether to introduce him or not.
She had only just met Breezy after all. She seems nice enough
though, and it might be nice for her son to make a friend.
"Clair." She calls back toward where the blind pony lies. "Why
don't you come out and say hello."

Her age? How old is she? He doesn't know how old she is. But
Mommy is calling him out, so he puts his ball down with his
       plushie and...okay...here goes...
Clairvoyant stands up to his full not-impressive height with a
small smile and paired blush and carefully feels his way around
the front of the counter towards where he heard Mommy talking
from, suddenly very self-conscious again about his scarred
mouth. He feels emotional presence, so he must be getting
close. He increases his pace until he gets within reach of the
emotional presence, then lifts up his hooves to lean against it.
His face goes blank. That's not Mommy. That's not Mommy at
       all.

Breezy shone her smile to Thyme when the mare introduced
herself. She watched then as Thyme fell silent for a few
seconds, patiently watching for a moment before her young
attention span caused her gaze to move elsewhere in the shop,
her eyes eventually falling on the healing-related items that
Thyme had pointed to. She examined these items briefly from her
spot, before turning back towards Thyme when she asked a pony to
come and say hello. She put on her bright smile again, though it
       quickly faltered.
She almost immediately noticed the cloudy look in his eyes, and
the way he uncertainly felt his way forward. She thought about
speaking up when she noticed that he was heading for her, but
didn't know what to say. So instead, she just rose a claw as if
to stop him, but that didn't seem to help much. He still wound
up placing his hooves on her and freezing in place, which made
Breezy pausefor a moment as well, then offered a warm smile to
him as well despite the fact that he couldn't see it. "Good
afternoon," she said quietly, trying not to disturb him too
much. "I am Breezy. Is pleasure to be meetink, younk pony. May I
be askink vhat is your name? And vhat is age?"
