Re: An Unauspicious Reopening

With a light shove of her glass to the side, she shook her head.
She let out a relieved breath, "No thank you. I am not one who's
fond with alcoholic beverages. Which is ironic since I am in a
bar." Although Agilene didn't want any, she took a glance at
what was in store. Some red wine, rum (how cliche), and other
spirits that did look tasty.
"Where is your brother now? Why did he leave you to run this
bar?" she asked, thinking a subject change would be appropriate.
Thinking about it now, Agilene wondered what the bar originally
looked like. Perhaps it was dank compared to now. Maybe that was
another reason for a re-opening; fixing a mess. Maybe she would
come back to this place once activity rises in the future.

Agilene's questions drew a mirthless chuckle from the grey
stallion, taking back her now-empty glass and setting it aside,
the bottle returning to the fridge, before he turned back to
speak to her again a slightly forced smile on his face
"Where is he? Well, he's dead, Miss. I'm doing my best to make
sure the bar stays running, even if it is a little emptier
without him." Roughshod replied, his tone neutral, the grey
stallion chewing faintly on an unlit cigarette as he spoke,
clearly not particularly happy to be on this particular topic.
Setting the cigarette aside again, Roughshod shifted a little in
place, readjusting his broad-brimmed hat as he spoke up again,
tone more positive, as he changed the focus of the conversation
a little.
"Don't believe I ever got your name, Miss. I'm Roughshod." He
spoke, tone conversational, a metal-shod hoof extended in
greeting towards the pale-coated mare, the stallion leaning over
the bartop in order to reach out to her.

A dead brother, huh? Some subject change this was. Her head
tilted downwards slightly at the counter-top, feeling a little
saddened by his story. She felt as though she had offended
Roughshod in a way. "Sorry to hear about that," she replied. It
was a clichéd response, but it's not like she had anything else
to say.
"My name is Agilene, by the way," she answered, ignoring the
hoofshake. "Pleasure to meet you, Roughshod."

Roughshod responded to the mare's apology with a brief,
non-committal shrug, clearly preferring that the topic be
changed as soon as possible, her introductions providing that
opportunity, even as she ignored the hoof extended in her
direction.
"Nice to meet you too, Miss Agilene. You know, you never
actually told me why you came to Canterlot, only how. Here to
see the sights of the big city, or do some shopping? Where you
from originally?" The grey stallion asked, eyebrow arched in
curiosity, his metal-shod hooves resettling on the smooth
bartop, after his offering of a hoof was ignored by the pegasi
mare.

Upon hearing that question, Agilene raised her head up at the
ceiling and rubbed her chin. She did not exactly plan what she
would do in Canterlot. There was so much in the city, it's hard
to choose. She simply shrugged as part of her answer. "I cannot
say for sure. Canterlot does have a lot to it. Sightseeing does
seem like an enjoyable activity." Agilene fiddles with her
hooves to distract herself, "Shopping would be pleasant, as
well. Certainly, there is much more that I prefer to do here
than Detrot."
Her eyes glance up at Roughshod, "What about you? Anything you
enjoy to do in Canterlot?"

Roughshod listened in silence as the mare outlined some vague
ideas for spending time in the big city, the stallion responding
to her questioning after a moment, tone thoughtful, a single
hoof rubbing at his chin.
"Well, what to get up to in Canterlot really depends on what you
enjoy doing.. Honestly, since I spend most of my time in the
city drinking, chatting with charming mares, or just wandering
about and seeing what kinda trouble I can get into, the only
real recommendation I can make is; have a starting point in
mind, and then just go wander. It can be kinda fun, getting lost
in a new city, and Canterlot's a big place, with a lot of stuff
to see. The Botanical Gardens and Museums are supposed to be
good, if you're, you know, interested in plants or history." The
grey stallion replied, relaxing by the bar as he rambled on, the
stallion shooting Agilene yet another flirtatious wink at the
mention of charming mares, and his tone grew slightly bored as
he referred to the few more cultured attractions the city had to
offer, the rough and tumble stallion clearly not the biggest fan
of intellectual pursuits.

Foxtrot squints his eyes as he looks up to the scorching sun,
not even looking directly at it before lowering his gaze due to
the brightness. He doesn't cringe though, only smiling as he
passes by other ponies who aren't so enthused with the heat.
Either way the stallion continues trotting down the beaten trail
until he stops at something which catches his eye. "Grand
Reopening. Wait, how long was this here?" He looks around to see
if anyone was heading towards it, but an empty road didn't yield
many answers. Shrugging, the unicorn walks over to the bar, "Eh,
why not? I can go for a drink or two." Foxtrot pushes the door
open; stepping inside he scans the place, noting the mess he
doesn't pay too much mind, the fact it has a place to sit is
good enough. Trotting towards the bar he only sees the bartender
and another patron. Finding a stool a few chairs away, he sits
down and looks around the place once more, catching any details
of the place he lights missed.

As Agilene imagined the Canterlot attractions Roughshod listed
out, the sound of the door opening broke her trail of thought.
Was it a new customer? Her eyes darted to the bar's entrance. As
she expected, a new customer has arrived. A brown unicorn
wearing a green army shirt. The pegasus wondered if she had seen
this one before. She shrugged, passing him off as one of those
look-a-likes that are common with some ponies. Especially that
army of look-a-likes she read about during a Royal Wedding a
couple years ago.
She faced Roughshod, "It appears we have some company."
