       A Real Eye Opener
By: Jazz Date: June 21, 2014, 8:58 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Jazz steps into the library, holding the door open for Clair and
looking around. There were a few ponies in the large building,
quietly reading or browsing the shelves. The mare at the front
desk, seeing them walk in, gives a little wave, which Jazz
returns with a grin. Once Clair is inside, she steps over to
him, ready to help guide him around. She walks forward with
Clair in tow, giving another smile to the librarian as they pass
on their way to the section on medical spells. They'd been there
several times before, so she knows the way perfectly. A minute
of walking later, and she guides Clair to a table and looks
around at the books on nearby shelves, trying to pick out titles
       that might be useful.

Clair smiles all the way through the library as Jazz guides him,
leaning against her. His steps are never precisely loud, but
he's extra careful here not to disturb the quiet atmosphere that
he enjoys so much, whether being read to by one of his family,
reading with one of their sight, or independently reading one of
the braille volumes carried here. Always accompanied by
       somepony he loves, of course.
When they reach the table, he sits at it, folding his hooves in
front of him and facing forward, head slightly downward.

Jazz looks through the shelves of books, taking out anything
that seems useful or interesting and stacking them on the table.
A few are in braille, and she sets these closer to Clair, in
case he wants to get started on that while she's looking through
the shelves. She goes all the way down to the end of the row,
and after taking a glance to make sure Clair doesn't need
anything, pulls out a book and starts skimming through it. It's
not directly related to why they're here, being a book on the
history of medical magic rather than a guide. Still, it could
possibly have something useful, if only to help have an idea
       where to look.

       Math. There was something about it that Samiel found intriguing;
ranging from simple to complex to outright theoretical, it's
applications are as flexible and diverse as nature itself. The
Pegasus was quite fluent in the language, spending much of his
time in business and management he had to be. However this new
venture of his would require it but in a completely different
field of knowledge. And as with any new venture, Samiel wanted
to plan as much as he can before taking any action, which has
led him to the Canterlot library for research. The stallion has
already been in the city for two weeks, taking in sights,
absorbing the culture, simply becoming a tourist for a bit
before delving into his work. With a pencil and notebook tucked
under his wing he enters the library and looks around, taking in
the sight of available knowledge before him. A smile begins to
form in his face, excitement taking hold as he continues forward
past the shelves and rows of books of various subjects. Samiel
lightly pushes his glasses up as he looks around for the
sections of books needed for his research. A tad confused, he
ends up in the medical section and decides to sit at the end of
a table shared by a unicorn a short distance away. He pulls out
his notebook, opening to a blank page and staring at it with a
pondering expression. A moment later he takes his pencil and
presses it against the lines, not really making a mark due to
the lack of ideas. After some time his excitement begins to fade
to disappointment as the Pegasus lightly taps his writing
utensil against the pad; his cheek resting on his hoof in the
meantime. 'Ugh, how do I even start this? Should I work on the
design or the costs? Perhaps I should list the engineering
obstacles or...' Before he knew it Samiel was fiddling with the
ankh that hung around his neck, placing the pencil down and just
staring at the notepad with a disappointed stare.

Clair runs a hoof over each book as Jazz brings them over, just
to get a feel of them. He could, of course, read the braille
ones without any help, and some of the hardback ones with the
imprinted lettering if he tried hard enough. That could wait
for Mom, though. While he's waiting, though, he hoofs over the
braille ones. Magic Eye. That one has possibility. He'll put
that in the maybe pile. Which happens to coincide with the
non-braille pile, simply because they're all maybes. Because if
they depend on sight to be able to read, what are the chances
they'll be able to teach spells to assist him specifically?
Granted he's a little bit advantaged in that regard, but...
Open Your Eyes. Check. Clair smiles a little bit more at his
internal joke. They're only about half-open right now, of
course, but that still counts, right? Another maybe. A couple
more books on the stack. The Unseen World. So, all of it.
What an apt title. He almost puts that on the next pile as
well, before he notices a subtitle that he missed. Seeing Even
       What Others Do Not.
Interesting concept. Surely it couldn't be implying that he
could see things a normal pony couldn't. But...it *is* in
braille, so it must have some application for blind ponies...and
it intrigues him. He doesn't read the final title yet, leaving
it where the stack was started to open up his chosen book. He
skips over the table of contents, something he never uses
anyway, and goes straight to the foreword, face forward as he
runs a hoof over pages that to most ponies might as well be
       empty.

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Chodonus Tiempo walks into the Canterlot library with a small
saddle bag on her back. The librarian at the front desk seemed
to be busy with sorting through some books, so Chord decided
she’d just apply for the library card once she got the books she
wanted. She didn't really know what she wanted per-say though.
She read the books she’d brought with her from Trottingham and
decided to stop by the library here in Canterlot to pick some
       more up.
She looks around the library to see if anything catches her
eye.”1 Shade Of Black? Huh?” She says to herself as she browses
the fiction aisle and picks up the book. She reads a section of
it as her eyes go wide.”Oh gosh!” She says as she quickly puts
the book back and trots away. She then quickly turns around and,
after making sure nopony was watching, slips the book into her
bags. Chord then wanders down the fiction aisle some more,
nothing really catching her eye until she got towards the end of
the section. “Space Dandy? What's that?” She then takes the book
off the shelf and reads the description on the back. “Space
Dandy is about a dandy guy… In space.” That was all it said.
Chord decided to put it into her saddle bag despite the
confusing description. She then scans around a bit more until
she finds a book called The Stanley Parable. “Huh? I think I
heard about that one.” Apparently it was better to just go into
it blindly. It couldn't hurt, so she put it into her saddle bag.
She looks over to the front desk where the librarians is still
busy. She decides to start reading one of the books at the
tables so she doesn't disturb the librarian. None of the tables
are empty near her so she trots over to the medicine section and
sit down at one of the tables and grabs “1 Shade Of Black” and
starts reading it, not noticing the other occupants at the
       table.

Jazz sets the book back on the shelf, not having found anything
useful within. She glances back at Clair, apparently having
chosen a book to read as he runs his hoof along a page and
stares not quite directly at the red-coated stallion who'd
decided to sit at the table too. She looks around the shelves a
bit more, and catches sight of a familiar purple pegasus sit
down at a table a few rows over. The white mare glances back at
Clair again for a moment before stepping out from the aisle.
She's sure he'd love to meet Chord again. "Hi." She says,
walking over to the table the young mare is sitting at and
giving her a big friendly grin.

Samiel was still looking at a blank piece of paper when he
decides to suddenly drop his head onto the table, "Ugh, just a
simple sketch and I can't even do that." With a sigh he lifts up
his head once more and closes his eyes, 'Alright, just picture
the end game...' The pegasus remains silent for a moment before
opening his eyes once more. Instantly he lifts his pencil and
begins his work with a circle taking up half of the page's
space. Next to the shape Samiel begins writing down a list of
questions before moving to the next piece. Lowering his writing
utensil further to the bottom of the page, and draws an oval,
but pauses and erases the shape right after. Samiel then
continues at a slower pace, drawing a circle and a hexagon next
to each other, however these two shapes are much smaller than
the first. A long silence in concentration holds the stallion
for a few minutes; another mental block, perhaps one he may not
be able to overcome. Samiel pulls himself out of his mental zone
and looks around, spotting the unicorn a short distance away. He
turns back to his papers, ears folding back and brows furrowing
slightly as Samiel decides to take a risk. The pegasus gets off
his seat and takes his notepad with him as he trots to the
unicorn at the end of the table. "Uh, excuse me. I was working
on this design for a sculpture and I need a second opinion on
the base." He places his notepad next to the unicorn's book,
pausing for a moment as he glances over to see the book's pages
without text. Samiel breaks out of his slight stupor and
addresses the unicorn once more, "I was deciding between a
circular base and a hexagonal one. I'm not sure so what do you
       think?"

The book starts with an explanation of the heightened senses of
one that's missing a single one. That Clair is already aware of
and understands. What he isn't sure he can accept is that the
other senses can actually be more revealing than sight itself.
Well, perhaps he'd find out about it later in the book. After
explaining those two concepts, the next thing in the book is a
formula for an echolocation spell, similar to the one he already
knew, though a bit more rudimentary. At least to his
understanding. The flow of magic was only divided two ways
rather than three, and it was set to a lower frequency. He
isn't so impressed with it until he reaches the next page.
Channeled through the hooves? Does that...he reads back through
the formula again. He'd misread one part. It can be divided up
to five ways, not two...interesting. He flips the page again
and reads on. Echolocation...within objects? Not through the
air? Well...it's something he'd thought of before, but he
wasn't about to start unguided experimentation with magic after
what happened last time. While his permanent reflective empathy
was, in his opinion at least, a positive thing, who knows how
badly it could have ended up? But now that he has a guide to
       it...
Clair blinks, still facing forward. Is somepony talking to him?
The voice is close, rather close, and seems to be directed at
him. "...sculpture and I need a second opinion on the base." A
sliding sound on the table next to his book makes it sound like
something is being placed down. Or moved. Maybe it was already
       there?
Oh gosh. Somepony is talking to him. About sculptures? What
does he know about that? Of course, the question here is about
the base. Maybe it's about the balance? He knows about that.
Where's Mom? She could talk for him. He fires off a quick
echolocation spell in an attempt to find her, but wherever she
is isn't within a direct line from his horn. She must still be
looking through the shelves. Uh...he wouldn't be comfortable
just getting up and looking for her...what if he got lost?
His head dips slightly, still facing forward. Maybe the
stallion next to him knows Morse. A SCULPTURE OF WHAT STOP
WHERE IS THE WEIGHT CENTERED STOP
