Lone Wanderer
By: Talyserra Date: May 23, 2014, 12:29 am

It was later after the incident at Ironfires store, it was light
though what time it was Taly could not say. She noticed flyers
for a tournament laying around; however she was...not pleased
with the idea of showing off for others. It may have been a
chance to clear her mind and just indulge in sport but...she did
not have the motivation for it. Her eyes felt heavy but her legs
continued to carry her around Canterlot, unable to motivate
herself to go back to the barracks. Certainly her night guard
armor got her some strange looks from the day shift but she
ignored them, only able to hear the drumbeat of blood in her
ears she considered her royal cockul at that blacksmiths store.
In truth she needed to remember that she could not please
everyone and it had already been an awkward situation but it was
hard to think that objectively in the middle of it. Her hooves
clinked along the ground, her fighting claws having been stowed
away as she heard the murmurings of the arena getting ready, she
steered left Down a less occupied lane.

Walking down the street, Ironfire was looking over the flyer he
had regarding the tournament that was supposedly taking place.
On the one hoof, it would be a good place to show off his work,
on the other he wasn't exactly a trained fighter by any stretch
of the imagination. Still, he'd closed up shop early to at least
check it out and see if he could find out much about it. So
caught up in his thoughts, he'd almost missed the familiar night
guard. Almost.
Trotting over, hoping to get a chance for an actual
conversation, he cleared his throat to get her attention,
"Talyserra, right?" he clarified, though he was pretty certain
having only just been introduced a short while back, "sorry
about what happened back at the forge,"

Talyserra was broken out of her Sulk by Ironfire trotting up to
her, head tilting to the side. "Oh...It's alright, I suppose I
just have a habit of walking into difficult situations, though
unlike most of them that one couldn't be solved by just bashing
hoof over head." She said with a rueful chuckle, tail flciking.
"Yeah, Talyserra, but please, call me Taly." She said inclining
her head to Ironfire. "Was there something I could do for you,
Master Smith? I was just taking a walk, myself."

"Very well then, Taly," Ironfire nodded, glad he had remembered
her name, "and no, nothing really, I was just on my way to that
tournament sign up when I happened to see you. Figured I'd use
the chance to clear the air about what happened in the forge
back there, and take a moment to speak free of distractions and
interruptions. I believe you said you work on your own armour,
right?"

She eyed Ironfire. "Nothing like you do, the fancier stuff
eludes me..but I'm a quick hand to mend." She said nodding to
her own armor. "Claw strikes, holes from lances..." She said
with a shrug. "I can fix it, I think it adds a little
character." She said with a soft chuckle. "The tournament sign
ups eh?" She said looking around and nodding, noticing the
flyers flying about with banners. "I'm not much one for putting
combat on show.." She said with a soft twitch of her wings. "Are
you going to enter?" She asked curiously at Ironfire, tail
swishing about.

"I was planning on it," he nodded in response, "I'm not much of
a fighter, but I've got a hell of a swing with a hammer and all
the confidence I need in my armour," he smiled, "I've no
illusions of winning, but I figure it might be a good way to
show off my work. Which unfortunately means I'll likely be
taking a beating, but, as I said, I trust my armour smithing,"

Taly nodded slowly as she looked over Ironfire for a moment.
"Well, perhaps I'll have to go to cheer you on. Some pony's
underestimate another pony with a hammer. Swords and Lances
and...well, claws are nice and all but you don't get thrown
about by them in a fight." She said with a chuckle, her wings
twitching in amusement. "I'd trust your armour smithing as
well." She said as an aside as they continued to walk. She
walked..awkwardly, as if unused to her weight on the ground,
seemingly happier in the air, but she kept herself to the ground
for now.

"A well used hammer can certainly be an effective weapon,"
Ironfire nodded in agreement, watching Taly, "and I have seen
some underestimate them, as compared to swords and the like
anyway," he mused, "You can fly, if you want," he guessed,
watching her awkward steps, "I don't mind," he smiled.

The bat pony blinked and then nodded in relief as she lightly
began to hover, just above Ironfire. "Yeah, I'm...awkward when
walking around, I'm an endurance flier, used to being in the air
all the time.." She said playfully as she flapped along with
Ironfire, tail swishing lightly. "So what do you like to
do...when not..smithing?" She asked attempting the impossible of
small talk.

"Glad to hear it," Ironfire respond, smiling lightly as the bat
pony begins to hover. At her next question, he takes on a look
of thoughtfulness for a moment, "y'know, there's not much that I
really do aside from smithing. A result, I suppose, of how much
I enjoy the work," he chuckles, "I guess I just walk, like this.
Look around, go eat out or something. Anything, really, just for
a change of scenery,"
