Mesa took note of Kite's name, then smiled slightly at Sero's
remark on the tameness of the matches so far. She turned to
Striker as he explained what he was doing in the tourney, the
brown mare's eyes widening. Special effects? Controlled
explosions? This might be even more exciting than I expected,
she thought eagerly. As Striker questioned Honey, Mesa's own
curiosity was piqued. She had heard the title when Honey had
introduced herself, but she hadn't thought too much about it-
she had heard of the Samareai, but she didn't know anything
       about them.
She raised one eyebrow at hearing that Honey was one of the two
modern Samareai, a little skeptical. In all of Equestria? How
does she know? But either way, Mesa took a note to look out for
the grey mare. She stayed silent as the others conversed,
deciding to just listen for now. She glanced up at the sky,
wondering when the preliminary rounds would start.

Kite flashes a grin when Striker says why he's there. "Got some
good ones planned? I've heard this tournament has had some
pretty spectacular fireworks in the past." He looks over at
Honey at Striker's question, his smile changing to a more
thoughtful look. He'd read a book once, years ago, that had had
a section on Samareai, and he was struggling to remember what it
had said. He can't seem to remember much though, and the mare
didn't seem inclined to be forthcoming about herself. He decides
he'll look for it again after the tournament is over.

Looking between the other ponies as they spoke and appearing all
around relaxed, Sero seemed more content with listening to them
converse for the time being, though the sighting of a familiar
mare nearby did seem to drag his attention away. He lifted his
head higher in an attempt to better see her past the crowd of
competing ponies swelling in the room. With a small smile he
turned his attention back to the others speaking around him
giving them a small "Excuse me for a few" so as to be polite and
not wander off in the middle of the conversation. Afterwards he
stood up, used the golden glow of his magic to tug at the strap
of hos saddle bags and took off in a light trot where he
expertly weaved through the wall of ponies between him and the
pony of interest, side stepping and ducking when necessary to
avoid any unneeded pausing of his movement. It only took a few
seconds before the white and fading blue stallion was able to
blend in then ultimately dissapear among the crowd, the last
clear sighting of him having been catching the leg of an over
eager warrior practicing his swings with his axe a little too
recklessly and almost fully interrupting Sero's trot.

Golden Gear stood outside an impressively decorated arena. She
had heard about the combat tournament that was being held there,
and about the prices they had for the best combatants. She was
among the last ponies in the registration line, though it didn't
mean there wouldn't be any more. Golden amused herself by
observing other competitor and their shenanigans as they
showcased their weapons and varying levels of skill with them.
When it was Golden's turn to register, she gave them the
information they needed, but when asked about her weapons,
Golden took a look around the area. Seeing how everypony there
had actual weapons with them, her first answer was simple
"Ehhh..." She had assumed that the tournament would supply
everyone with a weapon, but apparently not. After another
awkward pause and looking around, Golden floated her wrench from
her tool holster and dropped it on the table with a loud -thud-
"I'll be using this." The registration staff looked at her with
mixed faces, before the one marking everything down wrote "mace"
as her weapon of choice. They waved her away from the desk and
told her to join other combatants in the waiting area.
Golden sat down on a lonely, unoccupied bench. She tried to spot
anypony she knew from the crowd of battle ready ponies there,
but couldn't spot anypony with a familiar face. Instead of
engaging in conversation with someone, she took a relaxed pose
on the bench and waited for more information on what to do
       next.

Striker was slightly taken aback by Honey's minimal response,
but he guessed that she might not want to talk about Samareai,
so he decided not to pursue the subject further. He watched Sero
disappear into the crowd, then turned back to the rest of the
group. "Plenty of flashy fireworks, if that's what you like,"
Striker said to Kite, grinning. "Which I do, anyway. I didn't
design the show, but the pony who did must have had some really
crazy ideas. To tell the truth, I'm a little bit nervous about
pulling it off, but it should be alright." Striker looked over
the gathering crowd of fighters, wondering if any of the more
famous ones he'd read about in the special effects notes were
milling about, or if, more likely, they had separate preparation
areas in the arena. "So, Samareai titles aside, any of you have
any claims to fame?" Striker asked.

Moments after she finished speaking, her gaze flicked over to
Sero as he excused himself, a quiet hum of acknowledgement
offered by the mare. She continued to watch as he left, curious
as to where he was heading off to... but somehow, she lost him
beyond some of the crowd milling about. Shaking her head
lightly, she returned her attention to Striker before speaking
up after his question. "Not unless you consider 'aspiring
musician' to be a claim to fame," she said simply, then turned
and disappeared in the crowd herself, the awkward conversation
split between multiple ponies having finally lost all of her
       interest.

Mesa glanced over as Sero excused himself and headed off into
the crowd, before her attention was pulled back to Striker as he
explained his role in a bit more depth. She grinned in
anticipation as she tried to imagine the "crazy ideas" the
designer had had. She raised her eyebrows at Honey's brief
answer, then watched in surprise as the grey mare left rather
abruptly. Mesa stared after her for several seconds, before
shrugging. "Not real talkative, was she?" Mesa said lightly, her
tone neutral as she made more of an observation than opinion.
She stretched out her wings as she glanced back at the remaining
two stallions. "So do you two live in Canterlot?" She asked
conversationally. "Or did you just come for the tournament?"

Kite nods to Sero when the unicorn leaves, the pegasus wondering
where he's going off too. Looking back at Striker, he grins
again. "Always loved fireworks, and from the sound of it these
will be especially good." The knight says, and shifts his weight
slightly, his armor having started to become uncomfortable how
he'd been standing before. He stands taller at Striker's
question, still grinning. "I'm a knight. And yeah, I live here
in Canterlot." He says, turning to watch Honey leave. "What
about you?" He returns her question, looking back at the mare.

A musician and a warrior... an interesting combination, Striker
thought, then looked after Honey in surprise as she left. Both
Sero and Honey, Striker hoped they hadn't decided to go because
of him. He wasn't the best at social etiquette, and had
embarrassed himself in front of members of Canterlot's elite
class several times. Well, he couldn't do much about it now, and
Mesa and Kite seemed friendly enough, so he continued
conversing. "Yup, I live in Canterlot too. I'm studying
pyrotechnics at the university; it was my professor who got me
involved in the tourney." Striker turned his attention to Mesa,
       curious about her response.

Mesa listened curiously, slightly taken aback when she heard
that both stallions lived in Canterlot. Being in such a crowded
place was less nerve-wracking than she had anticipated, but she
couldn't imagine living around so my ponies all the time. But
obviously a lot of ponies didn't mind it, or Canterlot wouldn't
be crowded to begin with, she reasoned. She was broken out of
her thoughts when Striker mentioned he was at an university. "So
you're a student? This must be an exciting opportunity then.
Maybe if you do this well, you'll have a job lined up for when
you graduate," Mesa suggested. In fact, the brown mare wasn't
even sure if universities worked like that- it's not like Mesa
had been to one- but it seemed logical enough.
"And no, I don't live in Canterlot. I got here this morning from
Ponyville, but I don't live there, either. Or really any one
place, really," she said, before adding. "Do you guys like it
here? I imagine it would be so..." She trailed off, twitching
one ear as she tried to find the right word. "...loud." She
finally said simply. Then, hoping she hadn't offended Striker
and Kite by somehow insulting their hometown, she quickly
amended, "Of course, I'm sure it has its own charm."
