Re: Being Made of Gold Must Be Nice.

Once more wearing a frown of concern, Star flicked her gaze back
up to Golden when she went into further detail about her job and
how it was wearing her out. What the mare didn't think about,
though, was that even if she really was that good... how long
until her exhaustion paid its dues? As Star tried to figure out
how to word how she wanted to mention that, she looked back to
the menu and idly gaze over some of the items listed before her
ears perked again when Golden spoke.
After the offer, though, Star's ears flopped down against her
head as she looked up to the miner, another slight look of
distress on her face. "Normally I'd say I couldn't possibly ask
you to do that, especially since I still don't have to resort to
begging, but... In my experiences with ponies like you and
offers like this, you really mean it when you say you're not
going to say no... So... Thank you, miss Gear," Star said, an
easy, appreciative smile being offered to the mare before she
continued. "You know, about how much you're pushing yourself...
The quality of your work might surpass all of theirs, but ponies
tend to make mistakes when they're exhausted. Now, I don't want
to assume anything, but what if you did make a mistake because
you've been pushing yourself this much, and that mistake cost
you the position you've been fighting so hard for?
"Mind you, I'm not trying to tell you how to do what you do...
But, well, I am suggesting that maybe you try to think about
your well-being a little bit, too? Have you tried talking to
your supervisors yet, see if maybe your position really is in
danger? Or is that harder to do than I'm guessing?" After
bringing up her points, Star waved to get the waiter's attention
again before looking back to Golden, an eyebrow raised as she
       listened.

"Don't mention it. You don't have to consider this as
''begging''. I just want to help you out." Golden said,
finishing what little was left of her meal. She crumpled the
packaging papers and threw them in a nearby thrash can with her
       magic.
Golden listened all the way through what Star had to say about
her situation. "Well i haven't made one so far!" Golden snapped,
her own frustration with the situation clearly present in her
voice. Her outburst was short lived however, as she managed to
calm herself down. "I'm... sorry... I'm just, tired..." Golden
rubbed her temples and removed her goggles from her forehead.
"I'm in a lose-lose situation here... It's my supervisor who
want's to replace me. We aren't exactly good friends with each
other... *sigh* The board agreed to his suggestion, but told him
to find somepony to replace me. They'd have to be better than me
on my job." Golden leaned back on her chair again. "Talking to
them does nothing good, trust me... If everything goes awry, I
have a friend in Baltimare who has offered me a job there. That
just means more hassle, but i'll take it if i lose my current
       job..."
Golden thought about what Star said about her own well-being,
but didn't say anything about it. Wanting to direct the
conversation away from her job, Golden asked the first thing
that popped in her mind "Finding anything that suits you? She
motioned towards the Menu with her hoof. Golden was aware that
Star already motioned the waiter back, most likely to give him
her order, but went with that question anyway.

Star gave a quiet hum of disappointment when she learned that
Golden's supervisor was somepony that was against her as well.
That was really the extent of the advice that Star could give,
seeing as she didn't know the whole story. There was at least
the silver lining of Golden having another job lined up--lucky
her--but for now, Star just figured she'd have to stay out of
things and let Golden find out what she needed to do. Upon the
mare asking if Star had found anything she wanted, she gave a
slight nod and easy smile. "I'm just gonna go with a hayburger
and fries. I haven't had a decent one in a while." When the
waiter arrived moments later, Star relayed the same information
to him--adding on a few different things to add to the burger
while she was at it as well as a glass of water--before looking
back to Golden as she crossed her hooves on the table in front
of her, her demeanor taking on a business-like quality. "Miss
Golden... You said you worked with machinery, right? What if I
were to tell you that I knew of a place where a brilliant
mechanic worked? A place where the only limit to creation is
your imagination? Would that perhaps pique your interest at
       all?"

Golden Gave Star a nod, hoping that the pegasus didn't choose
the cheaper option just because she had promised to pay for it.
"Hey, one Triple coffee, black." Golden Quickly added to the
waiter after Star had made her order. Golden raised her eyebrow
at the strange question Star asked her. It was almost like a job
offer. "I'd probably call you out for lying, because there is no
paradise on earth. I've learned that during my short but sadly
very eventful life." Golden kept a short pause, before she
brought her hoof to her muzzle and said.
       "But i'm listening..."

Despite Golden's negative response, Star actually giggled
quietly and leaned back in her chair at what Golden had said
about the description of Tech Tock. If that was what she
considered a paradise, then there really was a chance for her to
enjoy what she saw there. So, easy smile playing on her lips,
Star reached a hoof up to sweep her mane out of her eyes. "Well,
I didn't quite say it was a paradise, but it's good to know
something like that is a good start for you. Hopefully that
means you can become one of our customers in the near future...
The place I'm talking about, though, is Tech Tock. If you've
heard of it before, I can tell you the rumors about it aren't
true. If you haven't heard about it before, then... Why don't we
fix that? If you didn't plan on going to take a nap soon, and
you have nothing else to do after this, why don't you keep
yourself active and moving around by coming with me to show you
the shop? Who knows what you might find there, or what the
inventor might be able to make for you."

Golden kept nodding as Star told her about Tech Tock, clearly
interested to see the place for herself. "I have never heard of
it, but you've managed to grab my interest. I'd be glad to pay
the place a visit. After you're done with your meal, that is."
Golden looked at the direction of the kitchen, but didn't see
       any movement there.
Golden was getting more and more interested to visit this "Tech
Tock". Having contributed her entire life to work with all kind
of machinery, she simply could not pass a chance like this. And
she was eager to meet this "Inventor" Star mentioned.
"Looks like your order is done." Golden said when a unicorn
stallion sailed out from the kitchen carrying with him a tray
that had one hayburger, fries, glass of water and a rather large
       cup of coffee on it.

"Grand!" Star cheered when Golden agreed to visit Tech Tock,
pleased with herself to have enticed somepony else to check out
the workshop. Whether it would provide anything lucrative, and
whether or not the visit would go without a hitch was yet to be
seen, but it was at least worth a shot, right? She nodded once
with a satisfied smile when Golden added on that it would be
after the meal, then resigned herself to waiting patiently for
the meal to arrive--which incidentally happened to be moments
later. She turned her smile to the waiter who returned with her
food, before looking to Golden as she picked her hayburger up.
"You'll have to excuse me if I don't really say much while I
devour this burger... I'm quite ravenous right now."
Then with that, she dug in, wolfing the meal down as etiquette
was thrown out the window--perhaps somewhat strange for a mare
with her appearance, but she didn't particularly seem to care.
This continued until there were only a few fries left in the
container, the burger had been completely devoured, and most of
the water had been drained from her glass. When it was all over,
Star burped quietly behind a hoof that covered her mouth before
saying, "Delicious. Thank you, Golden. I'm ready to get going to
Tech Tock, if you are. Out of curiosity, is there anything you
had in mind that you might like to see created? Or anything you
need repaired? Or perhaps something you might like modified or
       upgraded?"

Golden grabbed her coffee from the tray, but it was left alone
and to idly float next to her as Star's rather humorous way to
consume her meal got Golden's attention. She watched amused as
Star, who to her knowledge and assumptions was a noble pony,
devoured the hayburger and the fries in no-time. "Wow... You
       must have been really hungry..."
After Star thanked her, Golden remembered her coffee and with
one sip drinked all of it."Don't mention it. And yeah, i'm ready
to go." At the question if she had anything she needed to be
created, fixed, or maybe upgraded, Golden tapped her muzzle few
times before she said. "Well... I don't really have anything...
Except my wrench..." Golden collected what ever trash was left
on the table, crumpled it and threw it in the trash. "Let's get
there first. I can try to think something on the way." Golden
hopped down from her chair and went to the counter to pay for
their food. She returned shortly after, ready to leave the cafe
and to go see this mysterious paradise called Tech Tock.

After Golden's suggestion that they get to Tech Tock first
before trying to figure out anything Golden might like done,
Star nodded in agreement as she slipped out of her chair.
Satisfied with a meal now in her stomach, Star patiently waited
beside their table as Golden went to pay their bill. When the
mare returned, Star turned and lead the way through the streets
of Canterlot, the trip there mostly uneventful. Some minutes
later, Star stopped outside of a building before turning to
Golden. "I must at least warn you before you go inside: some of
the machines in there might try to give you a hard time. I've
been trying my best to convince them not to mess with ponies
like that, but... Well, the point is, they're not dangerous. I
think they just like playing pranks. And yes, I am well aware of
how crazy this sounds. Regardless... Welcome to Tech Tock," she
said with a smile as she opened the door and ushered the mare
inside, not sure what the welcoming box would do today, or what
Haywire was doing inside just yet.

The welcoming box, going rather simple today considering its
usual shenanigans, was lying in wait for anypony who would near
the door to the workshop, the two mares who approached of course
entering its range since they were headed inside the building
itself. When at the door, a hatch on itsfront that was new to
the ever changing box would unlatch and fall forward with the
accompaniment of what sounded like a short but chipper tune
played on a horn as ribbons fell out of the hatch and tiny
balloons took this opportunity to escape from the box and into
the open air, a few of them being in a group and carrying with
them a small sign reading "Welcome to Tech Tock!" that dangled
below them as they slowly ascended with the added burden.
Inside the shop, its owner wasn't immediately visible, though
the sound of something clanging further in did give a hint as to
where he was and what he was doing, though, given his pretty
unexplainable ability to somehow always notice when somepony
entered his shop no matter where he was or what he was doing
inside, it would probably only be moments before the clanging
ceased and he hurried to greet his visitor.
In the mean time, the machines nearest the entrance studied the
new pony with a critical eye, the shop, in their opinion,
starting to become quite crowded these days. Some started to
sound out bloops and having a counter sign of bleeps be given in
response as a few others appeared to turn themselves on, the
grinding of gears and grumbling of machinery starting to fill
the large main room of the workshop as one particularly large
invention shaped like an hour glass had a disk positioned onto
its top half spin suddenly for a reason that would only make
sense to the machine itself and probably the pony who made it
that way. The spin seemed to accomplish little in the immediate
moment, but it did allow for the metal bird that was resting
motionless on the disk to be tossed away and clang across the
floor as it came to a rigid stop half behind what looked like a
       crazy modyfied ice cream dispenser.
Sure enough, a few seconds later, the clanging in the shop fell
silent beneath the new conspiratorial whisperings of the many
inventions present, though the excited thudding of hooves that
replaced it clues one into why.
"Hi, Star!" Haywire greeted with loud enthusiasm, popping out
from behind an odd centrifuge type dealy that reminded some of a
metal weeping willow tree, "And hi, new visitor! Is this a
friend of yours, Star? Welcome to Tech Tock! Remember to watch
for falling plushies and rifts in space and time while
navigating the workshop, please. There's also a chance for
sudden snowfal in here today, so I hope you're ready for any
       kind of crazy weather changes!"
