Re: A Ponyville Lunar Festival
By: Ivory Star Date: May 8, 2014, 5:41 am

The Noctral continued to smile and wave as the trio of ponies
made their way across the field to where they had situated
themselves for the moment, the yellow mare seemingly leading the
way with a beautiful black cat in tow. Ivory always had a
penchant for animals, especially cats in particular, and it took
nearly everything she had to refrain from scooping him up and
lavishing him with affection right then and there. Growing up,
Ivory only ever owned one pet: a stray calico kitten she had
rescued on the streets of Manehatten, later named Duu, due to
his two different colored eyes. Heterochromia, if she remembered
her father's words correctly... Despite Ivory's love for
animals, Duo was the only one that wouldn't meet her with
flurries of claws, teeth, or talons.
Frowning in thought, Ivory dismissed the cat completely and
turned her attention to the other two ponies behind the yellow
mare. One was definitely a stallion... An orange Earth pony, to
be more accurate. And the smell of... Peppers? Ivory blinked,
trying to hone in on the faint aroma that seemed to be emanating
from his general direction. How odd, she thought to herself.
Surely her senses weren't tricking her? But as soon as the
Noctral gave it half a thought, she dismissed that, too, as she
spotted a familiar hat. And underneath that hat, an even more
familiar mare. It had been quite some time since she had seen
Patches roaming about, especially this late at night. Then
again, that mare was an enigma; most don't even see her arrive,
nor leave unless she made her presence known. And that was
perfectly fine, given her somewhat secluded nature.
Offering yet another quick wave and an elated smile,
specifically towards Patches, Ivory then turned her attention to
the yellow mare, shortly named Kindle, who was now addressing
her. "Good evening, Kindle and Pepper. And a special good
evening to you, Patches.~" The Noctral finally landed to offer a
hoof-shake, keeping her webbed wings folded loosely to her
sides. While Ivory didn't notice Kindle's earlier ogling at her
appearance, she was particularly pleased that she didn't
outright ask what Ivory was. Or if she was allergic to sunlight.
Or her personal favorite, if she ate other ponies. If only she
had a single bit or two every time she heard that... "My name is
Ivory Star," she continued. "Proud Noctral, honorary Pegasus,
and one-hundred percent hard-working pony. And this here is
something I would like to call a Lunar Festival. It's an event
I've done here in Ponyville every couple months or so when the
moon shines its brightest, but this is probably the first time I
can call it a proper festival." Ivory beamed in delight once
more, almost dancing in place. "Free food, free drink, good
music, and I perform an aerial dance once the moon hits its
peak. Think of it like a Summer Sun Celebration, but for
Princess Luna.~ If you're willing to stick around for a tiny bit
longer, I can show you what all this glowy-ness does."
As Kindle suddenly headed off to intercept her cat, Ivory
redirected her attention to Schwambart who now seemed completely
at a loss for some reason. The Noctral simply smiled as she
listened to his response with a bit of a grin, trying to keep
her giggling to a minimum... With little success. She was just
simply too far excited at this point. With Lamplight, Patches,
and Schwambart here, along with a myriad of new faces including
Kindle and Pepper, Ivory was bound and determined to impress.
"Would you like some help, Schwambart? I wouldn't mind carrying
a couple of things. Also, take a deep breath, you goof. Count to
ten. Exhale. I know you're nervous, but once the show starts,
just sit back and relax." Ivory inched a bit closer, her genuine
grin easing a bit, mostly due to her jaw starting to ache from
smiling so much. "Just enjoy yourself, okay? If you're up to it,
we could go get something to eat from one of these stalls after
the performance. Or devour what's left of the cookies. Consider
it a midnight picnic of sorts.~"
"Schwambart lived with me for a short time while he got his
living arrangements in order," Ivory stole a glance towards
Lamplight, finishing the green stallion's sentence as he trailed
off due to the newcomers. "It's been... A few months. Half a
year, maybe, since we've met. Since then, he's gotten his own
place, and when he dropped by to visit recently, I invited him
to this event." Ivory paused for a moment, her expression
becoming more gentle and sincere, almost lost in thought. "I've
rather... missed his company." It was a rather subtle hint
between Lamplight and herself, but as quickly as the moment
came, Ivory suddenly shifted her attention to yet another
newcomer who seemed to be idling by the group.
Now there was an odd sight... A hooded pony sliding
inconspicuously along between the group and the event site, and
even with Ivory's trained eyes, she couldn't quite make out any
of his or her features. The Noctral squinted, turning her head
slightly to catch more moonlight to aid her sight. Male...
Definitely a stallion... But that was all she could really pick
out with the exception of a strange object of sorts, and perhaps
the neck of his guitar, if it was visible. Perhaps he was a
musician? Ivory glanced towards the others, seeing if anypony
would lay claim to the newcomer, but instead she found Patches
eyeing him cautiously... And if this stranger gave Patches
enough reason to worry, perhaps he would need to be addressed.
With all of her senses trained on the hooded figure, Ivory
unfurled her wings and began to hover towards the stranger,
giving a reassuring nod and smile to Pepper along the way. She
knew that look all too well; the sense of loneliness and
detachment was not an easy foe to fight. If Pepper decided to
stick around, then maybe she could talk to him...
"Good evening, stranger,~" Ivory called out to the hooded
figure. Maybe he was just shy? Or maybe he was just not from
around here. In any case, Ivory couldn't deny that his behavior
was suspicious... The glowing Noctral hovered just out of hoof's
reach, hoping to use the light she now generated to cast some
answers as to this stranger's appearance. "You here for the
Lunar Festival? We've got plenty of room.~"

As Foxtrot continues past the group, a small black feline
approaches, looking at him and meowing every so often. The
unicorn looks down, a slight smile appearing; of course any
animal would be an improvement to his situation. His focus is
broken as the owner picks her up, rather caught off guard, he
remains silent as she apologizes. He tries to say something, but
nothing comes to mind, the physical exhaustion, lack of sleep,
and worry of still being hunted, keeps his thoughts in disarray.
Unfortunately the mare walks away before he could speak, leaving
a small sigh as he continues walking to the tree ahead, hoping
to just get some rest before moving on. After taking a few steps
he stops again as a voice calls out to him, followed by an
unexpected glow. He looks over to the source, blinking a bit
more as the reflected moonlight hits his eyes, he shakes off the
light vertigo as his retinas adjust themselves. Foxtrot looks
ahead, slight confusion sets in as the Noctral brings up the
Lunar Festival. Once his eyesight clears, he sees the Noctral
causing the refraction, as well as the pony keeping an eye on
him from a distance. "Lunar Festival huh? Well it's about time
Luna got her own fiesta." The stallion glances to the group
behind her, 'I guess blending into a crowd is easier when you
have a crowd. Besides, a Lunar Festival does sound like fun, I
just have to be careful.' Looking back to the pegasus, Foxtrot
pulls down his hood, his ears flicking before leaning back
slightly. "Well that sounds good, if there's a quiet spot
available I'll take it." Foxtrot slightly stretches, keeping
down a yawn, but letting a smaller one out. "Sorry, it's just
been a long day. I could use some unwinding; thank you for the
assistance by the way. My name's Foxtrot." It was either the
smell of some baked goods, and for some reason peppers, the cool
temperature and clear sky above, or the soft grass beneath his
hooves that made Foxtrot want to just drop and sleep right on
the spot.

Lamplight watches the group of new arrivals talk to Ivory, at
least until the yellow mare's cat runs off. "It's nice to meet
you too Schwambart." She looks back over at the green pegasus.
"House troubles huh?" She asks, only to have Ivory answer her
rather than the nervous stallion. "I bet that was fun." She
says, giving a wink that Schwambart likely couldn't see,
followed by a slight giggle. She looks back at the rest of the
group, who have now started talking to a hooded stallion
carrying a sword and guitar.

So, the gathering was a Lunar Festival. An appropriate name,
Kindle thought. She couldn't wait to see Ivory perform. The glow
of the Noctral's fluttering wings reminded Kindle of the
flickering candle flames she loved to watch. She saw Ivory
approach the strange hooded pony and chat. The stallion pulled
down his hood and looked as if he would join the group. Kindle
must have misjudged his intial appearance, although he did look
a lot less... sinister, for lack of a better word, now that she
could actually make out his face.
Kindle turned her attention to the other two ponies of the group
she had joined. Ivory had mentioned the name of the green
stallion, but Kindle hadn't quite caught it. Schaw-something?
That didn't seem quite right. The orange mare had a similar
coloring to Kindle - even a vaguely related Cutie Mark,
featuring a lantern and flame. Kindle wondered what kind of work
the mare did in the area. If it involved making lanterns, she
might have some competition! It would be good to get to know
more of her neighbors, anyway. "Hi, I'm new to Ponyville," she
started by way of explanation. "I'm trying to get to know more
of the ponies around here, so if you wouldn't mind letting me
know your names?"

Schwam eases a little bit with Ivory's giggling, the pink in his
cheeks receding slightly. Laughing is one way to make him more
comfortable, though it usually works better if he's trying to be
funny. "N-no, I can c-carry it. I did bring it all myself,
a-after all, without a belt of giant strength or whatever..." he
trails off, forgetting where he'd been going with that train of
thought (he'd thought it was pretty funny at the start, too)
when she inches closer. Well, now he can see her a little bit
better, which just reminds him that he won't be able to really
see the performance.
Midnight picnic? With Ivory? Why, that sounds...a silly grin
finds its way onto his face and absolutely takes over. "Yeah,
th-that s-s-sounds...great..." he interjects to that idea. He
makes no more move after that, not looking anywhere but at the
shimmery blob who'd been so nice to him, zoning out.

Pepper blinked slowly, kindle speaking again drawing him out of
his reverie before he looked towards ivory. "I am sure tonight's
performance will be wonderful." The odd looking pony said with.
Nod as he sat next to kindle and closed his eyes. "Eh and maybe
kindle next year could use some of her nice candles to make
things more...what's the word, atmospheric?" He said teasingly
to kindle tail swishing a bit "I'm new as well, it's nice to
meet all of you."

It had been a long, long flight for Kit, a small pack on the
gryphoness' back containing her lightweight belongings, She had
mingled with traffic going towards ponyville in anticipation of
this festival,a nd it was at this festival that Kit had decided
to reunite with her old friend. Typical of Gryphon impatience
and ready-to-go-ness she had decided to show up without a letter
or anything! It would be such a cool surprise, Believe it!
However..as she neared ponyville, she knew she was in the nick
of time, not knowing when it was supposed to start, she landed
in ponyville enar the outskirts where the festival was being
held. Her breath was coming in big gasps as she shook herself,
she'd never done much endurance flying, truth be told, she was
really sort of a....pretty flyer, she could do tricks, but she
wasn't the endurance flier some other gryphons were. Her sleek
black body grasped the ground, her yellow scaled fore talons
propelling her forward as she looked around the festival,
travelling in leaps and bounds like a bird stuck on the ground,
actually letting out a few Chirps as she looked for Ivory, her
red feathers ruffled as she looked around, for the glow-y
noctrel..she had to be around here somewhere! Suddenly, she
spotted the noctrel talking to a strange robed pony.
Clacking her beak, she steadied herself, as she began to walk
towards Ivory, trying to pass herself off as cool, but her body
began to tremble liek a wound up spring in excitement as she saw
Ivory! Her friend -was- here! Lovely! "Ivory!" She called
out...the black and red gryphoness planting her butt high in the
air, waiting for the bat to turn towards her..and when she
did..she'd strike and pounce!

Ivory could have fully expected the mysterious stallion to say,
or to do anything at this point, but she certainly wasn't
prepared for what he said first... " Well, it's about time Luna
got her own fiesta."... The Noctral remained hovering in the
air, a dumbstruck look plastered on her face while her idle wing
speed went from a slow-paced beat to a rapid hum in just a
couple seconds flat. Before the strange stallion even had a
chance to finish, Ivory burst out in elation, flying laps around
the robed figure before she finally simmered down enough to let
him continue. "It's nice to meet you, Mr. Foxtrot!" Ivory
finally took the opportunity to land, trotting right up next to
him now that she was more comfortable with his identity. "I
apologize for that earlier little... outburst, hehe," Ivory
continued, chuckling nervously. "I just got really really
excited. Do you know how hard it is to have somepony openly
admit that Luna deserves a bit more acknowledgement? Nothing
against Celestia, of course... They're both equal in terms of
importance and obligations..." Ivory trailed off, Foxtrot's
fatigue becoming quite apparent as she rambled on. "A quiet
spot? The whole meadow is open to your liking. You're more than
welcome to come sit with us to watch the performance.~"
After another short giggling fit, Ivory landed and turned to
return to the group. She had seen something land out of the
corner of her eye but payed little heed to its identity as the
Noctral was too wrapped up in her own boundless excitement. It
wasn't until Ivory heard somepony call her name that gave her
reason enough to pause and turn to look... And what Ivory was
met with was anything but a pony. In fact, it was a sleek, black
Gryphon poised like a cat, her bright red accents highlighted
even more in the moonlight. Ivory knew those colors... And she
knew that pose all too well... The Noctral only had enough time
to fold her wings and pin her ears back in surprise... As the
saying goes, old habits die hard.

Kit grinned, or well, opened clacked her beak with excitement as
she saw the old friend of hers, tailw hipping around, and when
Ivory noticed her....Ambushes weren't honorable, anyway, it was
nice to give your friend-ponenent a chance. "Ivory! Guess what!"
She said as she pounced upon the pony, though she was extremely
careful to ensure her talons did no harm, her backpaws pressing
against Ivory. "I'm movin' to the area, and I heard you were
having a festivel, so, like, I came. Great right?" As she sit
pounced upon Ivory's body, head tilting to the side, she let out
a soft chirrup. "I'm soooo excited to see you here." She said
bobbing her head a bit, looking around slowly, barely
registerign that she had just pounced the star attraction in the
middle of a bunch of her fans. Oh well. The crimson-feathers of
the gryphon rustled a bit.

"K-kit!?" The mare barely squeezed out the Gryphon's name before
her rather large form (compared to hers) flawlessly pinned her
to the ground with a rather loud oof and a small squeak of
surprise. Ivory landed face up, blinking a few times to gather
her bearings before her golden eyes landed on the familiar
looking Gryphon. Then again, it was about the only thing her
eyes landed on as the excited black and red Gryphon all but
encompassed her immediate view. "Kit-Kat? Is that really you?"
Ivory opted to use the nickname she had given Kit back in
school-- a term of endearment that had first started off as a
bad joke, but had grown into something the mare would often and
fondly use to address the Gryphon. Kit had changed a little
since the Noctral had last seen her, but considering the way she
had just been greeted, the Gryphon hasn't seemed to change one
bit.
A genuine smile pursed Ivory's lips as she raised a hoof to rap
against Kit's chest, right below her neck where her feathers
were at it's thickest. "It's good to see you, Kit. You've grown
a bit... I can tell." Ivory chuckled a bit, coughing a couple
times as she attempted to readjust herself. "Do I have dirt in
my ears, or did you say you're moving to Ponyville? That's
AWESOME!~" The Noctral's exuberant energy returned, half
giggling and half squirming underneath her present captor.
"Enjoy this while you can, Kit! I'll know it's coming next
time!" Ivory laughed again, giving up on squirming for the
moment as she simply laughed like a school filly.
