       Re: Down in the park
By: Dais Clash Date: April 25, 2014, 10:22 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Dais rolled his eyes. "I am giving her a chance" he said
neutrally, though he grew progressively more impassioned as he
spoke "I'm offering to pay for her to be taken to one of the
most expensive and brilliant doctors known to ponydom. I am
trying to set her up for an awesome life here - can't you see
that? Hers is a condition that could get worse. She might end up
one day not just being unable to accept somepony as a friend -
but even unable to accept anypony at all. And that includes
herself. Once it progresses to that stage, the results can be
pretty bad, and curing it can become nigh-impossible. After
talking with you, you've made me believe Brash is helpful, but
everything Brash said before points to her being a poor friend.
You said it yourself - it isn't my fault, it's just that Brash
would not call ANY pony her friend. Unless of course you've
changed your mind, and you think this is my fault after all.
Listen Carri - I'm not going to give up on Brash. You got that?
Brash will call me her friend and there's nothing anypony can do
to stop me. And besides, I'm only doing what Brash wants. You
told me what Brash wanted from somepony like me - and I'm making
all her wishes come true. I wasn't lying when I told you to
write in that letter you're holding that Brash will love it
there. It's almost like the whole institution was set up
especially for... hold on a second."
Dais stopped himself and glared at Carri with a grin. "Are you
just arguing to cheer me up again?" he said gladly "'It is so
on! I really can't believe how far you're going to make me happy
after the debacle earlier. Nopony has ever argued with me twice
in a row before. Wow, this is awesome..."

Carri hadn't even realized she was continuing to argue until
Dais brought it up, maybe arguing isn't such a bad thing? Now
wasn't the time to think about that though. A chord had been
struck within Carri, she must win this argument. "You said
there's no way in Equestria you'd let a true friend down, right?
Well, Brash is my friend and she told me it's very important she
stay in Ponyville. So I propose a compromise, if Brash doesn't
want to go, I will insist she remain in contact with the doctor
and deliver their letters myself. I don't mind how long it lasts
or how much of my time it takes up!" Determination in her eyes,
she realizes just how important a simple action from Brash had
been to her, but she wonders if what she said seemed strange.

       ---------------------------------------------------------
"You're right - I'd never ever let down a friend" replied Dais,
matching Carri's determined look "Brash can't make a fair and
informed choice here. She must go and see the facilities for
herself before she decides. That means she'd have to leave
anyway, so your proposal is a bit self-defeating. Look, I can
see that you're determined. I think you don't want her to leave
either. Maybe you're afraid of what will happen to her. Maybe
you know that you'd miss her too much while she's gone. I don't
know. But Brash needs help, whether she wants it or not. It's
the only way I'm going to get her to accept me as her friend."
Dais casually walked around in a circle. "I'll tell you what,
Carri - how about I make you a better compromise. You've got one
day to get Brash to tell me she's my friend. And she actually
has to mean it. I'll be willing to do my part - you can tell me
what I need to do and I'll make sure it's done if I can. But if
you fail after one day, I'll round up the wardens at the
Ponyville Hospital and get them to take Brash to Manehatten for
treatment by force. Or alternatively, you can take that letter
there to Manehatten and we can do everything in a civilized way.
Like I said Carri, Brash will be my friend whether she wants to
or not! Nopony can stop me. Are we clear?"

Carri takes a moment to consider this, she knows for sure Brash
will have to be taken by force either way. "I got it! Stay
there!" Carri darts upward and zooms back towards Brash's house.
The answer is obvious, Brash will know what to do.

Carri returns after a minute, holding a limp Brash. She
carefully swoops in so she's directly above Dais and drops Brash
on his back, who snaps into a standing position with a yawn.
"So I hear you're trying to create problems for me unicorn.
You'll find I'm the friendliest pony around shortly." Brash
       states in calm confidence.
"I know you guys are going to get along great! All you have to
do is spend the day together." Carri nods to Dais. "I'll keep
guard at the house." She starts to fly off but makes sure to
       listen for any closing questions.

"I'm counting that argument as a win for me!" called Dais with a
friendly-teasing voice into the distance as Carri flew away. He
pranced about a few times with a huge grin on his face, and then
lay back down on the park bench, this time smiling. Levitating
his book over with his magic, he began reading.
Scarcely had he finished a single paragraph when Brash's voice
suddenly speaks to him. With a little surprise and a faint yawn,
he dropped the book to one side and looked down at both foals.
He watched with curiosity as Carri zipped away once more, and
chuckled a little to himself - the good mood he was in after
       arguing not quickly fading.
"Problems? I'm trying to be your friend! Why would I try to
create problems?" said Dais, smiling "I was just chatting to
Carri about things I could do to make me your friend, and she
suggested some things, and I said I'd do them, and then she
wasn't so sure any more, so she went and fetched you. So anyway
       - now that we're apparently spending the day together - you got
any plans? We could hang out here, go bowling, argue, eat lunch,
sing a spontaneous musical number about everything that's
happened so far, go trekking into the forest, find even more
       friends, catch a movie..."
Once again Dais doesn't stop his list, going through every
single thing he could think of for them to do in turn.

"Maybe next time you try to make a friend you try not running
away sobbing like a blubbering idiot." She states only shortly
after lunch is mentioned, not caring to listen to Dais's list.
"And I expect you to pay for lunch, I wasn't given a chance to
gather any of my enormous wealth. Another thing, try not to make
this a huge waste of my time." She demands.

"Hey!" called Dais defensively "When I try to make a friend, the
only thing I expect is for them not to go telling me that they
aren't going to be friends, be that express or implied. And
there was nothing blubbering or idiotic about my crying. I may
have overreacted just a tiny bit, but friends are really
important to me, ok? Notwithstanding that..."
Dais' horn lit up, and a few moments later Brash found herself
with Dais teleported to the outside of Ponyville's finest
restaurant. Dais had also added a smart, striped suit to himself
       with a fine silk tie.
"I'm happy to pay" said Dais, returning back to his prior cheer
"But you make sure you don't embarrass me, alright?"

"What I said was, we weren't friends, past tense. Not that we
couldn't become friends." Brash corrects, "How I ever expressed
       otherwise is beyond me."
Brash only blinks at the sudden teleport, maintaining her
composure. "Embarrass you?" She places a hoof to her chest, "A
shining beacon of charisma such as myself? If anything you're
the one who should keep in check."

"As spoken in reply to, we can still be friends, future tense"
replied Dais "A former librarian is not somepony you want to
argue tenses with! In any event, I don't think any shining
beacon of charisma would be so dismissive to even forget a
courteous 'thank you' when I offer, quite generously, to pay for
the finest food bits can buy. I'm just telling you this for your
own sake - I've seen stallions get bucked out of here because
they had even slightly improper table manners. Just be on your
       very best behavior, alright?"
