       And I felt like lightning...
By: Chordonus Tiempo Date: April 19, 2014, 3:36 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
"Hellooooooo there all my little ponies! How Y'all doin tonight?
Well I'm doin fiiiiiiine and you know why? Cause I'm D.J. TFV
comin from Canterlot liiive, here to bring you the news."
That was the first thing Chordonus Tiempo heard when she woke up
on the train to Canterlot, the apparent D.J.'s voice deep and
silky smooth. Chord looked over to her left to find her radio
turned on. She had left it on while she was sleeping and it
picked up the first signal it could, which was station 22.7. She
reached over to turn it off so she could get back to sleep, but
before she could the D.J. said something that intrigued her.
"For our first piece of news there will be an unscheduled
lightning storm over Canterlot today. Everypony should stay
inside tonight as the lightning strikes will not be controlled
       by pegasi weather team."
Lightning storm? That was a problem. Lightning was... not on
Chords "like-able things list", although she had no such list.
Oh well, that was later that night. She should be able to find a
hotel or some place to stay before then. No problem. She turned
off the radio and laid back down to sleep. But, unfortunately,
her attempts to sleep were interrupted by the train coming to a
screeching halt. Chord sat up and looked out the window to see
       what going on.
It was dark out, presumebly the time was around midnight, but
Chord could tell the train was in Canterlot. Chord had severely
overestimated the time it would take to get there. And when she
looked closer into the night she saw storm clouds approaching.
Fast. That meant the storm was going to get here soon. The
conductor shouted from across the train "All off for Canterlot!"
so that everypony om the train could hear him.
Chord quickly gathered all her luggage. She didn't have
everything with her at the moment but it was supposed to be
shipped to her when she found a place to stay. She turned off
her radio as the D.J. was in the middle of a report about low
crime rates in some towns to east she'd never heard of and
stuffed it in a bag before taking out her purple and black
striped scarf and wrapping it tightly around her.
She then walked down the aisle of the train and exited it. She
had to push past some ponies on her way off the train station
platform and once she got off it she quickly ran over a mental
       list of places to stay.
"Ok so there's a hotel on Kilimanjaro street I think." She
thinks as she pulls out a map. She looks at the map to find
Killamanjaro street halfway across the town, which she'd never
been in before and could easily get lost in. But she didn't know
any other place to stay and, having no other option, grabbed her
luggage and started briskly walking towards what she though was
       the way to the hotel.
She had walked a few blocks before it had started raining. Chord
quickly looked up and saw the clouds directly above her now. She
started walking as fast as she could, which was not as fast as
most due to her asthma problems. She had only walked another
block when she heard the a loud "BOOM". The sound made Chord
jump and hide under a nearby porch she looked up from her hiding
spot to see if what she thought was lightning had hit anywhere
near her, only to realize it was actually thunder.
She let out a small laugh for being so paranoid, before she the
actual flash of lightning. She let out a small scream and went
back to hiding under the porch.

A storm. One of Clair's favorite kinds of weather. Most of
them were, really, so it's not so much of something to note as
it would be for somepony else, but still. He likes them. A
rainy day is perfect cuddling weather, calling most who would be
outside in more clement weather back indoors, where he tends to
stay anyway. Not that he dislikes the outdoors, he just has an
easier time under shelter. And the soothing sound of rain
       falling on the roof...
Of course, that's only why he likes the rain. He also enjoys
the lightning. Ever since he first got to borrow Mommy's sight,
he's always loved a good storm. Just sit with her, cuddle,
watch the flashes of light...She never really grew to like them,
though, so instead once he learned how he would borrow Mom's,
which was just as good. Storms don't tend to come along very
often, and when they do he'll even stay up late to watch them,
       like he has tonight.
Just him and Mom, sitting on the bench swing on the porch.
Everypony else is probably in bed by now, and Clarity's staying
the night at a slumber party, so they have the night to
themselves. A small grin sits on his face, wrapped in her
forelegs, head against her chest with a blanket draped over the
two of them. One hoof of his sticks out and up to her chin,
where he guides his borrowed sight where he wills it, his eyes
sparkling with the light that would usually be hers. It's just
rain so far, but soon will come the lightning, the brilliant
flashes followed by deeper darkness, the contrast that always
made him wiggle his hooves in enjoyment.
His anticipation is sort of cut off, however, when he sees
somepony walking down the road. Who would be out in this kind
of weather? Well, aside from him, but he's certainly not out in
the rain, rather under an overhang over their swing, and he's
certainly not alone. He moves Mom's head to track the figure,
keeping it in sight. The colors are a bit washed out by the
darkness of the storm, and they're pretty dark already, but he
think he detects purple, perhaps with a hint of blue or green.
He's so busy watching her that the first crack of thunder
catches him off guard, his ears quivering as he presses himself
back against his adoptive mother as his grin widens, momentarily
distracted from the pony he was watching as he rotates his
borrowed sight around, waiting for the next lightning strike.
Until he sees the pony from the street darting across their lawn
and ducking under their porch. What...{Mom} he taps out,
dropping his hoof from her chin to use her hooves as a surface
to code out what he's saying. {There is somepony under our
porch} He sticks out his hoof towards where he saw her
disappear to, then drops his sight-borrowing spell just before
he hears a scream, causing him to grab his mom and hug her.

Jazz listens to the sound of the rain falling, cuddled up on the
bench swing with Clair. Despite the chill brought on by the
storm, it's quite warm wrapped up in the blanket with Clair. She
shifts her gaze slightly at her son's prompting, and she figures
the lightning must be starting and her ears flatten a little in
anticipation of the following thunder. As expected, the thunder
comes, though for some reason it seems Clair had been surprised
by it. Maybe it was just closer than anticipated. She doesn't
have much time to wonder when the next crash of thunder would
come when Clair removes his hoof and taps something to her. She
frowns as her vision returns, and she blinks a few times to
readjust. The next peal of thunder brings with it a nearby
scream, and she slips out from under the blanket and off the
bench. "I'll go take a look." She says, before turning and
making her way to stairs down to the yard. "Hello?" She calls,
raising her voice to be heard over the coming storm. "Are you
       alright?"

Chordonus lifts her head out from under the porch to see who was
there, her whole body shaking. It was an older unicorn who was
calling out. On the porch there appeared to be another, younger,
unicorn. He appeared to be around Chord's age while the other
       looked about 50-ish.
Chord quickly clears her throat and says in a shaky, but very
obviously Trotingham accented voice, though the accent was not
very heavy "Umm....Hello. I...I just don't like lightning and I
hid under here. I'm sorry if I'm bothering you..." The rest of
her sentence is cut off by another flash of lightning. Chord
lets out an "EEEP!" type sound then ducks back under the porch
where she covers her face with her wings.
After about a minute of cowering she comes back up, shaking
harder. "If it wouldn't be any trouble could I maybe stay the
night here? It'd only be for tonight and I won't be any
trouble." Chords pleads, not wanting to be out anymore and
       scared out of her mind.

Jazz shivers slightly as the rain hits her when she steps off
the porch, walking a long and leaning down to get a better look
underneath. She can see a young, purplish pony huddled in the
darkness, seemingly terrified of the storm. Another flash of
lightning and crash of thunder lets her get a better look at the
young mare, and Jazz frowns in concern, glancing up at the sky.
The storm has only just begun, and shows no sign of letting up
any time soon. She leans down, partially going underneath the
porch herself in order to talk to the frightened mare. "I'm sure
that won't be a problem, we've got an extra room and I couldn't
just leave somepony out in this." The white mare holds out a
hoof to Chord to help her out.

The warmth in the blanket diminishes with the absence of Mom
under it, so Clair wraps it more tightly around himself as the
clack of her hooves on the porch tells him where she's going.
The allure of the storm is much less without the chance to see
the lightning or the cuddling, but the rain on the overhang
above him still provides a nice soundtrack accompanied by the
crack of thunder every now and then. It's almost enough to
cover up the conversation happening between Jazz and the other
mare, but a combination of shouting and his own keen ears manage
       to get most of it.
So she'd be staying the night here? Well, that's alright. They
have an extra unused room, like Mom said. One thing's for sure,
though, they're going to be wet when they come in. Rain has a
tendency to do that, he understands. Maybe he should get a
couple of towels for them. Yeah, that would be a good idea.
Clair eases himself off the swinging bench and down onto the
porch, letting out a wave of echolocation to find the door.
Yup, right there where he left it. Just a few steps and he's
there, and then inside, in his territory. This is somewhere he
knows. A place he can navigate. Once inside he walks at a
brisk (for him) pace around the edges of the rooms, stairs, and
hallways to the closet where they keep the towels. Along his
path is a stripe of carpet that's a different color and texture
than the rest. He doesn't need to feel along it anymore to make
his way around, but it's how he learned his path, step by step,
       inch by inch.

Chord took the mare's hoof and get out from the underside of the
porch. She wrapped her scarf tighter around herself as she she
felt the cold wind hit her, which is not helped by the also very
cold rain. She turned towards the older mare to thank her for
letting her stay, but another flash of lightning makes her just
cower and run to the porch with her luggage, which Chord had had
       the entire time.
Chord very much wanted to go inside at that point, but she
didn't think it'd be polite for the guest to enter before the
actual owner of the house, or at least she assumed the older
mare was the owner, so Chord just looked at the unicorn and
waitd for her to let her inside.

Jazz straightens up, wincing slightly as the combination of
chill and movement makes a few joints ache, and she hurries back
onto the porch just behind Chord. She shivers as another crash
flash of lightning arcs across the sky, and glances over at the
bench. Neither Clair nor the blanket are there anymore, meaning
he must have gone inside. Hopefully to get them some towels.
Jazz shivers again, and pauses to shake some of the water off
before stepping for the door. "Come on." She says, her light
blue magic pulling the door open, and ushers Chord into the
warmth and shelter of the house. Still no sign of Clair, though.
Well, might as well head off in search of towels. If Clair has
gone to get them they'll likely meet him on the way. She
gestures for Chord to follow her and walks off further into the
       house.

Clair walks down the stairs, a pair of towels draped over his
neck on top of the blanket he still had wrapped around his
shoulders. His ears perk up at the sound of the door closing.
They must be in. He makes his slow, steady way down the hall
again heading back toward the door, listening for when he was
going to get close to them. Surely they were going to be
       looking for the towels.

Chord entered the house quickly and shut the door. She shakes
herself a little to try and dry off a little. She then looks
around and notices that the younger stallion has dissapeared.
Chord turns to the older white unicorn and asks "Ummm... Where
did the other one go?" She then shivers a little. "And you
wouldn't happen to have any thing to dry off with would you?"
       She adds.
