       Re: Bleep Bloop
By: Haywire Date: October 21, 2013, 12:45 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Inside the workshop a larg number of machines surrounded, and
sometimes buried under, countless smaller gadgets and gizmos
packed the junkyard of a building bleeping and blooping as they
did what could only be described as "stuff". Most of what that
stuff was only their creator could know, many of the machines
being confusing in their designs and purposes. The piles of
scrap and junk the inventor used in his work added to the mess
and made it difficult to tell what was the result of Haywires
crash through the window and what was just normal for the place
on this day of the week. When the filly entered, a small box set
next to the front door suddenly opened with a small cutout of a
pony springing out like a jack-in-the-box. The cutout was that
of a happy looking green pony resembling the owner of the
building, it holding a sign that read "Welcome to Tech Tock". A
smaller sign was set below the cutout warning about safety and
offering tips on how to not be teleported into the past during
       their visit.
A slight groan from near the now broken window hinted towards
the green stallions location, the shifting of a certain pile of
half wrecked and abandoned projects further giving away where he
was. A few moments later his goggle wearing head popped up and
out of the junk, followed by a hoof that then took to rubbing a
       new bump on his noggin.
"Bubo!" He called, immediately being answered by the sound of
something whirring to life, "Status report!" From behind what
looked like a... pillar?... with... lever- an odd invention,
what appeared to be a bird flapped its way up and through the
air, its wings(as well as everything else about it) giving off
more mechanical sounds than natural ones. Once it reached and
perched itself on a metal bar set over the now shattered window,
the light from outside now revealing it to be an artificial bird
instead of a real one, it spread its wings out wide and gave a
short shrill cry to answer the small green pony. It then
promptly shut down and fell off the bar, landing on the ground
with a clatter where it stayed motionless.
"Yeah," Hay said, looking at the bird then around at the rest of
the workshop, "seems about right. Oh, careful next to the dingly
dang there," the inventor warned once he noticed the filly from
outside now inside the building, his only free hoof at the
moment gesturing towards a box shaped machine next to her, it
giving off bossy noises, "that tends to blast out fire on
       occasion."

Clarity casts a glance at the machine and hurriedly steps beyond
it. "Uh...sure thing." She slowly makes her way over to the
inventor, crossing the floor warily. She looks in wonder at all
the assorted gadgets and things until they all start beeping at
her. She steps away from a whir to flinch away from a blip, and
she can swear one of the machines actually growls at her.
"This is...quite a place..." she says when she reaches Haywire's
side, somewhat hiding behind him from all the...stuff.
"Just...what IS it?" She runs a hoof through her mane
nervously. "It looks like a train and a junkyard got together
       and had a baby."

"No, no, that didn't work out," Haywire assured as he stood up
and allowed the pile of whatever and everything to fall off of
him, "the junkyard train is in Apploosa I think by now. This! Is
my workshop!" He proclaimed with a flourish in the form of his
hooves being tossed up, oddly similarly to how the cutout had
held its own. The workshop seemed to give off a light noise that
imitated applause and possibly even cheering.
"I call it Tech Tock. This is where what you saw me using
outside came from. This and... That," the inventor pointed
towards a half wrecked machine that looked to only have Spinny
wheels on it for the sake of having Spinny wheels on it, blinky
lights a plenty as it spun happily, "that... that... and I think
even some of this." A mass of pipes leading into themselves, a
completely demolished device that the purpose of which will now
forever be a mystery, and a large machine set towards the back
and half covered with a tarp. Blinky light oh so very a plenty.
"But anywho, you're sure you're okay, right? I don't want me
having been stuck to have gotten somepony else hurt." His ears
drooped a bit as he asked, not having fully caught her answer
outside when he was sent crashing through his window.

Clarity twirls one of her locks around her hoof as she continues
surveying the workshop. "Hm? Oh, right. Yeah, I'm fine, just
made my- Ah! What if it bruised!?" She twists around and tries
to get a better look at her plot. "If I can't get a date for
the dance this weekend, I'm blaming you!" She turns away from
Haywire to let him see it. "Did it bruise?" she asks, her eyes
       smoldering.

"Uh..." Haywire blinked at the question then felt his ears pin
back slightly from the look in the filly's eyes, "I... Guess...
No?" He answered, not really having given anything more than a
brief glance at the part of her that she was worried about.
From near the window, the earlier sounds of mechanical wings
could again be heard, the robot bird called Bubo turning itself
back in and taking flight once again, this time making its way
over to the Inventor and landing on his head, tilting its own
curiously at the filly. With what may have been a look sent down
at the pony it was using as resting place, its sent a quiet
question to its creator. Haywire sent a look back along with a
shrug, before smiling back at the pony, hoping her earlier
worries of a bruised rear end had been put to rest.
"A dance, huh? I might be able to test my new sound system ideas
if they'll let me... Oh! I almost forgot! I'm Hay, Hay Wire, But
most just call me Haywire." He offered his hoof to shake, his
grin back and threatening to take over his face, set up shop and
start a monopoly. "Thank you for your earlier help."

Clarity's manner relaxes as soon as she receives his
confirmation that their antics hadn't damaged her complexion.
"Well, that's good to know," she says, flipping her hair with a
smile. She clears a little bit of space on the floor, then
plants her posterior down. Her hoof extends and she shakes his.
"Charmed. My name's Clarity Mirror, but you can call me
whatever. Popular nicks are Sweetheart, Cutie, Gorgeous,
Sweetums, Sunshine, Sunbeam..." She continues to list off a
great number of terms of endearment, most of them referencing
her pleasant appearance or her beautiful voice. It's clear from
the way she says it that she's used to being called such things.
       "...Belle, Songstress, and Atsy.
"Anyway, you said you have a sound system we might be able to
use for the dance? That would be pretty neat! Since I'm head
of organizing, I'm sure I could get you an opportunity to show
your stuff. Is it any good?"

"Is it any good?" Haywire echoed, trotting off to the side of
his workshop where a rectangular object surrounded by several
smaller square shaped ones rested amidst what would appear to
others as technological rubble,, "Its great!" Bubo gave a sharp,
and pretty hard considering what his beak was made of, peck on
the Inventors head in response to his claim, "It's good!" He
corrected, receiving a second peck from Bubo and losing the edge
to his grin as he waved a hoof to shoo it away, the bird taking
off from his head and landing on the rectangular object with a
short sharp cry."It's a prototype," the Inventor admitted,
turning on a light to show off what the objects looked like, a
larger turntable for records connected to speakers using less
than safe looking wires, all of which seeming unfinished from
their rough and unpolished exteriors, "basically its a newer
more flashy version of what's already out there with some added
stuff like special features and such to make it more 'showy'. I
haven't had the time to truly finish or work on it lately with
my lifty machine project, but the last time I tried it out there
were no explosions, so that's a good sign, right?"

"That's a VERY good sign, I would say," Clarity agrees with a
laugh, following the inventor. She examines each of the parts
and taps out a little rhythm on them softly. She picks up one
of the small ones and hefts it. "What kind of amplification do
you get out of it? It's going to be a fairly big event. We
don't want it to be drowned out just by everypony talking." She
puts down the square one she'd been looking at and turns her
attention to the larger piece. "And can we hook up a mic to
       it?"

"It has the best amplification!" A sharp cry from Bubo, "It has
great amplification!" A pause from Haywire accompanied by a
glance over towards the interrupting bird, waiting to see if it
had any objections with his second claim, smiling proudly when
       the bird did not object.
"Bombs could go off and this thing could still be heard over it.
As for hooking up a mic to it, sure! I even had my own
microphone I was working to go with it. It, however," he glanced
over his shoulder, a twisted metal frame of something that
looked to have been melted recently being half hidden behind an
open door leading to another room, "is in its early testing
phase. I also, if your interested, have had a few ideas on how
to turn the sound system into an emergency fire prevention
       machine."

"Naw, we have our own mics we can hook up. If yours is still in
development, I don't think the rest of the committee would
appreci-" Clarity's head swivels toward the window. "What time
is it?" She dashes over, almost falling over some rubble or
invention or perhaps a candygram, and looks out, noting the
position of the sun. "Holy cornbuckets, I'm going to be late!"
Another mad dash and she's almost out the door before stopping
herself and running back to the inventor. "Anyway," she says,
speaking quickly, "can you bring your sound system to the
Apricot Street Park by 5:30 pm this Saturday?"
